This keynote will cover the final touches of contour, texture, surface colorants, and polish that

can take an average looking porcelain or monolithic glass ceramic and focus on the new generation glass ceramic, Zirconia Reinforced Lithium Silicate “Suprinity”. Dr. McLaren will share techniques for monolithic Cubic Zirconia restoration to create an exceptionally esthetic result. These steps are critical to the success of dental restorations, especially now since more monolithic restorations are becoming the norm. Dr. McLaren will also cover the esthetics of the individual tooth, i.e. the individual form and color characteristics of teeth.

ed Mclaren, dds, MdcDr. McLaren is a Prosthodontist and Master Dental Ceramist. He is a retired Professor from both UCLA and UAB School of Dentistry, founder and first director of the Post Graduate Esthetic Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry and was the director of the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry, a full time didactic and clinical program for graduate dentists. Dr. McLaren was also the founder and director of the UCLA/LACC Master Dental Ceramist program.

Dr. McLaren is currently the CEO of ArtOral America, a private teaching institute based in Park City, Utah. He maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics and esthetic dentistry in which he does all of his own ceramics. He is still actively involved in many areas of prosthodontic and materials research and has authored or co-authored over 90 articles. Dr. McLaren is performing ongoing clinical research on various restorative systems. He has presented numerous lectures, hands-on clinics and postgraduate courses on ceramics and esthetics across the nation and internationally. He recently published a book on his ceramic techniques and features dental photographic art entitled, “The Art of Passion: Ceramics, Teeth, Faces, and Places.”

Surgeries in dentistry are done every day. Surgeries with the implementation of digital devices are done every day. However, we are missing out on utilizing the specialists in the dental team. As specialists, we see the oral surgeon or periodontist, the prosthodontics and the dental technician.

Dr. Phillip Fava, II, periodontist and Alexander Wünsche CDT, ZT, dental technician will explain their way of helping patients get their desired smile. There are many ways to get to the destination — some are longer, some are shorter. Dr. Fava and Wünsche will share how surgical and restorative can be married in a seamless way for most predictable results, while avoiding detours or pitfalls.

From utilizing certain software in treatment planning, in communication and execution, their way of planning and restoring make dentistry a charm. Discussion will cover surgical procedures and how the technician can be involved and a necessary help related to restorative materials, which ideally are chosen before the treatment is even started.

philip l. Fava ii, dMd, Mdsc

Dr. Philip Fava is a full-time practicing periodontist and implant surgeon, maintaining offices in both Philadelphia and Ambler, PA. efficiency on a daily Basis by Chucri Chemali, TD, DTG

Human teeth haven’t changed at all. Their different functions and shapes remain the same. However, technologies have evolved a lot. Some are truly designed to make our work easier but again, are we staying focused on the real priorities? Let’s go back to basics and make sure we are copying nature in function and esthetics and not just filling a gap in a patient’s mouth.

MaGic: an exploration of the Magic and science in Restorative dentistry, simplifying and enhancing natural aestheticsby Jessica Birrell, CDT

Reproduction of nature is a combination of magic and science as we create the illusion of mimicked nature and symmetry in an often unideal environment. As nature cannot be exactly replicated, a technicians’ ability to understand this science and create the illusion of nature is critical. Join me as we explore the magic and science in restorative dentistry and learn techniques that simplify and enhance natural beauty for 2020.

Analog or digitally fabricated, immediate dentures set the tempo for definitive edentulous treatment. Whether you are fabricating analogue or digitally, single or dual phase immediate denture, communication and fabrication techniques, which address bone trim, surgical guides, corrective tooth positions, flange and palatal contours, and other facets, all play a role in a successful outcome.

This presentation will walk you through several cases using successful techniques that provide a predictable outcome, and set the stage for a better definitive, final denture once healing has occurred.

Areas of discussion to include:• The questions that drive fabrication• Bone trim philosophies • Palatal contour techniques which aid in phonetic adaption• Acrylic resin choices for phases of construction• Tooth selection• Case economics

servicing Overdentures: Restore Retention, Reline Review, and Moreby Ruben Arebalo

This course will review the many problems the restorative team and their patients experience with overdentures. The speaker will discuss why these problems happen and the alternative solutions available; learn different techniques for attachment processing and relines; and discover how to select the proper overdenture attachment based on patient needs.

Learning Objectives:• Troubleshooting techniques for when a patient is experiencing a

lack of retention• Determine when relines are necessary and the steps necessary to

reline overdentures• Prevent overdentures from “locking in”• Determine which attachment best fits the patient’s specific needs• Overview of patient care and recommended hygiene maintenance

implant potpourri - implants in the aesthetic Zone and Full arch Rehabilitationby Alexander Wünsche, CDT, ZT

During this lecture, Wünsche will explain the importance of treatment planning for complex implant reconstructions. Complex can be anything from the single implant in the anterior area up to full mouth rehabilitations.

With the digital treatment approach, we are now able to plan the case with the patient’s smile in mind. The utilization of smile design software in combination with implant planning software and a dynamic cad-cam system make the planning and design stage extremely predictable.

In the second part of this lecture, Wünsche will describe the importance of the correct material choice and what kind of zirconia (or even polymer) is appropriate for the specific case.

confronting the challenge and embracing the emerging Opportunities for your dental laboratoryby Joseph M. Saburn, Esq.

This lecture will highlight challenges and present a roadmap that owners of dental laboratories should consider as they try to navigate possible business disruptions. Some believe that the trend to consolidation is the result of instability in the market and uncertainty surrounding the future. Actually, consolidation seeks to optimize business efficiency and financial performance and seeks to better position the lab to successfully compete. Grabbing market share, cutting costs, boosting productivity and improving investment returns through economies of scale all play a major role in the evolution of your business. There is no doubt that the world has changed in a big way for dental laboratories. The lab industry was historically stable, very profitable and predictable. That is no longer the case, but there is also great opportunity. Mr. Saburn will review the evolution of industry consolidation and discuss opportunities presented to enhance your business.
