From the Manager

T he magic of spring arrived a few weeks earlier than

normal this year. By measures of plant activity we are

nearly three weeks earlier this season than the last two.

The golf course is in great condition to start the season. The

successes of last year have given us a great base to start from,

and turf conditions reflect it. All turf maintenance equipment

was gone through this past winter, and we begin the season

with like new equipment.

While the mild winter was

certainly nice from a personal

standpoint, from a turf per-

spective, I would have pre-

ferred some colder weather.

The freeze thaw cycle is na-

ture’s way of relieving com-

paction. Without Mother Nature’s help this year, you should

expect to see more aerification earlier this year.

There will be a renewed emphasis this season on golf cart

traffic control. We ask that carts stay on the paths completely

on all the par three holes.

All other holes will have a white line semi circle in front of

the green. This line marks where you need to return to the

path. Even though the line will not extend around the green,

use it as an indication of how far to stay from the green. Also

with golf carts, please try to park with all four wheels on the

path. Fight the urge to pull off the side.

I am happy to report that my entire crew from last year is set

to return. This will be the third seasoni n a row for this crew.

They all make my job so much easier. Ron Summitt, my assis-

tant, is starting his fifth season, and Josh Blazier, my crew fore-

man, is returning for season 12.

Please remember to help out by repairing ballmarks, replac-

ing or filling divots, raking your marks out the sand, and be

responsible with golf cars and push carts.

DDDDIDIDIDID YOUYOUYOUYOU KNOWKNOWKNOWKNOW: The Brad-

ford Pear, which has bloomed beautifully for the last week, is an invasive plant. It is classified as an exotic invasive inalmost all of the northeastern United States. Please find another flowering tree besides the pears.

H appy spring! As always, I hope this newsletter

reaches you in good health and spirits. Although it

has been a slow start to the season, warmer weather

shall prevail. Hopefully April will bring warm and dry

weather for us to enjoy.

Mark your calendar for the Opening Day events. Men’s

Opening Day is Saturday, April 16th. It all starts with compli-

mentary continental breakfast and Bloody Mary’s before the 9

a.m. shotgun start. The format will be a scramble. This is a

fun event to start the season. Please make sure you sign up to

enjoy this great event. The Ladies’ Opening Day is Tuesday,

April 26th. There will be a meeting and breakfast at 9:00 a.m.

followed by golf. This is a great way to meet other ladies and

to meet the golf staff. Please check out our new website to

view all upcoming events for the year:

www.twinlakesgolfclub.com.

I am happy to announce we will have most all the staff re-

turning this year in the clubhouse, golf shop and golf course

maintenance. Gregg Jones will be back as our assistant golf

pro for the second year. It is important to maintain the same

staff year after year to enhance the relationships between the

membership and staff.

This spring we will be doing cart path repair to hole #7 and

some other areas. This is part of our plan to resurface all the

cart paths. The new tees on holes 2, 3 and 7 will be open and

healthy. You will also see an increased amount of light top-

dressing on greens this season. This will help maintain great

turf quality and putting surfaces.

Please pass along the attractive 2016 membership program

to any potential members. It is essential for the club to have a

successful membership recruitment program this season. I

would like to welcome all the new members to Twin Lakes

and thank their sponsors. If you see a new member please

welcome them to the club. I look forward to seeing you out

enjoying your club and a great 2016 season!

Lady Golfers

We can finally put winter behind us and begin to think

about playing golf once again. Our Twin Lakes Ladies Golf

League will begin on April 26. Chef Jeffrey will start us

off with a delicious breakfast at 9:00 in the club house. We

will hold a short meeting prior to playing a golf scramble. I

hope to see all of our members, old and new. Please RSVP

to Jane, Jeffrey, Christain, or Jim.

Putt Putt Fun Day

On May 11, we will hold a fun day of putt putt golf, wine,

appetizers, and a golf clinic. You need not be a golfer to

attend this event. The fun begins at 5:00.

From the Pro

J&W Golf Shop News

Wow…what a spring we are having! It’s been rather

lonely around the golf shop the past couple months.

Thankfully Greg and I are staying busy with the daily de-

liveries of Hot 2016 Golf Merchandise. I’m as excited as

I’ve been in years about the line of golf equip-

ment….especially from Callaway Golf. The new Calla-

way XR 16 drivers and irons as well as Odyssey putters

are getting as much Tour Buzz as any product this year.

Look like Jordan…Play like Jordan! You will see plenty

New Under Armour Apparel inside the J&W Golf Shop.’

Greg Jones is back & we couldn’t be happier!!

Greg will be returning this season for his second full sea-

son at Twin Lakes as Assistant Golf Professional. He is

very excited to be back and looking forward to the upcom-

ing season. In addition to helping with the daily golf op-

erations at the club you will find him to be very active with

PGA Junior League Golf, junior golf, ladies clinics and

private lessons. Greg is also the Assistant Men’s and

Women’s Golf Coach at DePauw University.

offset your membership balance.

Twin Lakes PGA Junior League

Twin Lakes will be again hosting a PGA Junior League

Team this summer. PGA JLG is designed to bring a ‘Little

League” atmosphere to the game of golf. With teams of

boys and girls, ages 13 and under, PGA JLG provides a

structured league environment for a young golfer of Twin

Lakes. Our Twin Lakes team will be competing in a league

format against other clubs in the Carmel area. Last season,

the Twin Lakes PGA JLG Team won the Indy 4 League and

placed 6 youngsters on an All Star Team which advanced to

postseason play. The format of the competition will be a 9

hole team scramble. All who participate will receive:

•Team Jerseys, golf balls and PGA JLG bag tags.

•5-6 regular season competitions + weekly coaching/practice.

•Opportunity for advancement to post season &All-Star teams.

The cost of this league is $180 dollars ($75 due at registra-

tion) which is a tremendous value for a summer long league.

Remember, you will be playing other local golf courses,

receive practice/lesson time throughout the season and all

the above. If your youngster is interested in participating,

please call the golf shop and speak to Greg Jones for regis-

tration details. The first 12 juniors to register will be on the

team. For more info visit www.pgajrleaguegolf.com
