Section 1 General Employment Information

1.1 Globe Cargo’s Mission 1.1.1 Globe Cargo strives to provide our high quality pilots with a high quality

simulation of virtual cargo operations based on Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo and select DHL cargo flights.

1.2 Employment 1.2.1 Globe Cargo is open to any virtual pilot who:

(a) Has purchased a registered copy or downloaded the freeware version of Ready for Pushback “First Generation” or Ready for Pushback “Second Generation”; or

(b) Has purchased a registered copy of PMDG’s 747-400F (747-400 Queen of the Skies required before installing the 747-400F); and

(c) Has a desire for realism; and (d) Has completed and submitted an application for employment; and (e) Has completed the entrance exam.

1.2.2 Probation Period (a) The probation period applies to all new pilots for the first 15 days of

employment. (b) During the probation period, each pilot must:

1. Complete and log at least 1 flight unless you advise the Director of Human Resources of a problem. Failure to do so will result in removal from the roster without notice.

2. Take an indoctrination test within 14 days and obtain a score of at least 70%. The test can be found online in the Training Center.

(c) New pilots will report to the Director of Human Resources for the duration of their probation and be listed as “Provisional” on the roster until they pass the indoctrination test. After passing the indoctrination test, the pilot will be listed as “Active” and start reporting to an assigned Region Manager.

1.3 Termination 1.3.1 Termination due to inactivity

(a) Any pilot who fails to fly at least one flight per month and has not: 1. Requested to their Region Manager a Leave of Absence; or 2. Furnished an acceptable reason for failure to fly to their Region

Manager upon request. (b) Upon no flight logged within any month, your Region Manager will

contact you inquiring about the missed flight. 1. Respond within 7 days with a reason why you missed the bid.

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 1.2

2. If no response is received by the Region Manager, the pilot may be terminated without further notice.

(c) The above procedure does not apply to a pilot still in their probation period. Probationary pilots who have not flown at least one flight, or who have not passed the indoctrination test within the required time, may be terminated by the Director of Human Resources without notice.

(d) Pilots who hold management positions at Globe Cargo are temporarily exempt from the monthly flight requirements in consideration for their time investment in the management of the VA.

1.3.2 Termination due to poor behavior (a) Poor/excessive behavior is not tolerated at Globe Cargo. (b) Poor behavior exhibited by a pilot as judged by an administrator will

result in immediate termination. 1.4 Leave of Absence 1.4.1 A Leave of Absence (LOA) may be requested at any time if the pilot

determines that he/she will be unable to complete at least one flight in the following month.

1.4.2 A LOA is requested by filling out the Pilot Absence Request form. (a) All LOA’s are accepted but are required to avoid termination.

1.4.3 Each pilot is limited to 2 LOA’s per year with each LOA not exceeding 30 days. (a) Special circumstances may be considered, contact your Region

Manager. (b) Extended LOA’s (beyond 2 consecutive months) will require removal

from the roster. Globe will store your data for a period of up to six months. When able to return, contact Human Resources for reinstatement without loss of seniority.

(c) Extended LOA’S beyond six months are not available. Any pilot who wishes to leave Globe Cargo for longer than six month, can rejoin later provided that: 1. Applications are open and 2. They retake and pass the indoctrination test.

1.5 Rank 1.5.1 Globe Cargo has two pilot ranks, Captain and First Officer.

(a) Rank is determined by necessity, an equal number of Captains and First Officers will be maintained company wide. All new hires will enter the system as First Officers. To maintain the Captain/First Officer balance, generally the highest seniority First Officer in the company will be upgraded to Captain provided he has the necessary 150hrs flight time and has passed the upgrade test; if not the next highest seniority first officer with the necessary hrs will be promoted.

(b) Upgrade process

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 1.3

1. Complete upgrade form Pilots->Requests->Upgrade. The information is automatically sent to the Dir. of HR and Dir. of Flight Operations.

2. Seniority and flight time permitting, the pilot will be put into an upgrade “class”.

3. The upgrade class will be given access to the upgrade test Pilots->Training.

4. The pilot has 2 attempts to pass the upgrade test with a score of 70% or better (35 correct out of 50). If the pilot fails both attempts they will be returned to FO for a minimum of 3 months before being eligible for upgrade again. In that case the pilot must fill out the upgrade form again to restart the process.

1.6 Pay Scale 1.6.1 The Globe Cargo virtual pay scale is compressed from 12 years, as used

by Atlas Air, into 23 months. (a) The pay scale is as follows:

(b) All pay increases are automatic and require no intervention from the pilot or management.

(c) Pay is accumulated for block times and is updated automatically on the Pilot Roster and Logs page of the Globe Cargo website.

1.7 E-Mail Address 1.7.1 The pilot is responsible for maintaining a current e-mail address with the

management of Globe Cargo. 1.7.2 To change your e-mail address on file, go to Pilots>Edit Profile. 1.7.3 Failure to maintain a current email address will result in termination.

Section 2 Airline Information & Procedures

2.1 Aircraft 2.1.1 Globe Cargo operates the 747-200 Ready for Pushback “First Generation”

or Ready for Pushback “Second Generation” and the PMDG 747-400F. The passenger variant of the 744 is not acceptable.

2.1.2 Globe Cargo also operates a variety of DHL cargo flights, typically shorter routes feeding the major centers that Globe operates from. For these flights we use the Dreamfleet 727, CaptainSim 727, FlightOne ATR72-500 or the Aerosoft ATR. We recommend the DreamFleet and the FlightOne as they are the far superior products.

2.1.3 All Globe Cargo flights must be operated using Polar Air Cargo liveries and Atlas Air flights must be flown with the Atlas liveries or the other cargo liveries when flying an ACMI flight (i.e.: Emirates SkyCargo, etc.) depending on which flight is being flown.

2.1.4 All DHL flights are to be operated using the familiar DHL Yellow liveries.

2.2 Website 2.2.1 The official Globe Cargo website is located at:

http://www.globecargova.org. 2.2.2 The website contains all information and news important to pilots and

management. 2.2.3 Globe Cargo maintains its own support forum which:

(a) Is accessed via the Globe Cargo website; (b) Is the primary means of communication to pilots by management,

check it often; (c) Contains a wealth of information and knowledge shared by Globe

Cargo employees. Globe Cargo pilots are encouraged to register on the forum. Signature banners can be obtained upon request. Forum rules require pilots to state their full name and pilot number in their signature, as well as their location of residence in their profile.

2.2.4 Login (a) Much of the Globe Cargo website can only be accessed by authorized

personnel. Login requires your pilot number and password. Your initial login password will be sent at the time of employment and can be changed once logged on to the website by going to Pilots >Edit Profile.

(b) A lost password may be reset by notifying your Region Manager. 1. NOTE: Administrators can reset only your website password, not

your password required to post on the Globe Cargo forum. 2.2.5 Pilot Roster and Logs

(a) Access Pilot Roster and Logs through the Pilots > Roster menu.

2.3.2 Suggestions and Comments (a) Globe Cargo is always looking for ways to improve the airline. Please

direct any suggestions for improvement or comments to any of the addresses listed above or to the Globe Cargo forum.

2.4 Bidding 2.4.1 Process

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 2.4

(a) The process by which bidding takes place for the following month is completely automated and flights shown are based on the real world Polar/Atlas schedule. Bidding will open on the 17th and close on the 22nd of each month.

(b) Instead of bidding, pilots can let the system randomly assign a flight for the following month.

(c) Bidding is separated between Captains and First Officers, which each group bidding separately. This is to allow a Captain and a First Officer to successfully bid on the same flight.

(d) The system reserves a block of several hours per pilot, sorted by seniority, for bidding. After time runs out, that pilot’s bid slot is no longer reserved and the next lower pilot in seniority may bid for the same flights.

(e) When a pilot misses his/her slot he/she may still bid until all bidding is closed. However, a lower seniority pilot is no longer restricted from waiting on you to bid.

(f) When bidding is open, the Pilot Bid Form page on the Globe Cargo website will become active.(Flight Operations>Polar Air Cargo>Bid Form) The bid form consists of 5 weeks and within each week you may select one flight (a flight may include more than 1 leg). 1. Only available flights will show in the drop-down box. Flights

previously selected by other pilots are no longer available for selection.

2. Select at least one flight per month or none at all. If no flights were selected by the time the bids close, an automated email will be sent to the pilot with a random bid chosen from the remaining available flights

3. A pilot may bid a maximum of 100 hours in one calendar month per 14 CFR 121.481 which applies to scheduled operations.

(g) When bidding is closed there is no way to change your bid either yourself or by management. All bids are final.

2.4.2 Seniority (a) Seniority is strictly based on length of service. The pilots who have

been with the company longer carry more seniority than those who recently joined.

(b) Bid slots are awarded in order from highest seniority bidding first to lowest seniority bidding last.

2.4.3 Open-board Flights (a) Open-board flights are those flights that are not selected by pilots

during the bidding process. 1. Flights are available to all pilots who have:

a. Completed their bid flights for that week; b. New hire pilots who joined and missed the bidding window.

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 2.5

c. Returned to active status from LOA and missed the last bidding window.

2. Do not select an open-board flight unless you are certain it will be completed.

(b) Open-board flights are only shown for the current and next day. For example, when looking at the Open board on a Wednesday, only flights departing on Wednesdays or Thursdays (UTC time) are shown.

2.5 Hall of Fame 2.5.1 The Hall of Fame program is to recognize pilot’s who have demonstrated

excellent flying abilities. 2.5.2 Eligibility Requirements

(a) The pilot must: 1. Be employed by GC for a minimum of 6 months. 2. Have submitted at least 3 pireps in that quarter.

2.5.3 There will be a new inductee every quarter (4 per year) which is chosen by the CEO.

2.5.4 The winner will receive a personalized certificate, gold wings on the roster, and will be asked to provide some words for the newsletter/forum announcement as well as a picture if possible.

2.6 Company NOTAM’s 2.6.1 Company NOTAM’s are an extension of the Pilot Manual which are issued

when there is sufficient cause to do so and are for immediate release. 2.6.1 NOTAM’s are found on the Globe Cargo forum in the News sub-forum. 2.6.2 NOTAM’s will be removed when:

(a) The NOTAM has expired; or (b) The NOTAM has been published in a Pilot Manual revision.

2.7 Pilot Training 2.7.1 Under development 2.8 Your First Flight (For new pilots) 2.8.1 This section is for our newest members of Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines.

Welcome aboard! You may be wondering, “Where do I start”? Here you will find step-by-step instructions for selecting and completing your very first official Globe Cargo flight. The instructions assume you have already received your welcome letter from the Director of Human Resources and that you have successfully setup either Globe Cargo Pirep (GCP) or FS Flight Keeper (FSFK). GCP can be downloaded from the site Pilots>downloads link.

2.8.2 Select a Polar Open Board flight or Atlas/DHL charter flight.

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 2.6

(a) Polar Open Board: Login to the GC website and navigate to Flight Operations>Polar Air Cargo>Open Board Flights. Select an open flight by clicking on “AVAILABLE” and your name will appear as assigned to that flight. Click on “Expand Route” to view the flight details including legs, flight times, ICAO codes, etc. The Open Board only displays flights for the current and next day.

(b) Atlas Charter: Login to the GC website and navigate to Flight Operations> Atlas Air> select flight.

(c) DHL Charter: Login then navigate to Flight Operations > DHLInternational > select flight.

(d) Load your cargo via the GC Loader/RFP Cargo Loader or if using the PMDG 747-400F use the PMDG Cargo Load Manager. Load your plane with at least 50,000lbs of cargo, unless otherwise stated on the Atlas charter flight details. Typically, around 100,000lbs, +30-50,000lbs /-20,000lbs is a good average to maintain on Polar flights and Atlas charters with no cargo load noted. PMDG Cargo Load Manager does not allow the exact cargo weight as assigned to be loaded onto the airplane. For this program, adjust the cargo weight to reach the cargo load closest to the assigned cargo weight. It’s rare that your assigned cargo will be achievable using the PMDG Load Manager. Remember, the PMDG Load Manager is for the PMDG 747-400F only!

(e) Review maintenance by checking the Fleet>Aircraft List and Logbooks page. Make sure the assigned aircraft is in service, logbook entries are complete, and review any conditions associated with active MEL items. Be sure to view the aircraft sub forum for as there may be additional details regarding aircraft operation with active MEL items. Information about specific MEL items can be found in the Master MEL documents under Fleet>Maintenance>Minimum Equipment List.

(f) Plan your flight. You may also use a number of other freeware and payware route planning software. With a long flight and heavy cargo load, a fuel stop may be required. You are the Pilot in Command and you may make the decision to stop short of your final destination to refuel then continue to the final destination. This is perfectly acceptable and no notification to management is required. Be sure to start and setup your PIREP software prior to releasing the parking brake before pushing back for your flight.

(g) Completing the flight. Send the pirep electronically via GCP or FSFK, whichever you have. You may select another Polar Open Board flight or Atlas charter until your first bid takes effect. At the completion of an Atlas charter flight, Login to the GC website and navigate to Flight Operations>Atlas Air, confirm flight and enter your confirmation code to close the flight.

Section 3 Flight Information

3.1 General Operations 3.1.1 All Globe Cargo flights must be operated in accordance with the

applicable regulations as referenced for each operation. 3.1.2 Aircraft Systems and Operation

(a) All information on B742 systems is found in the Ready For Pushback manuals. B744 systems information is found in the PMDG 747-400 manuals

(b) The aircraft shall be flown per the flight regime profiles found at the end of the Ready For Pushback manuals or per the operating information in the PMDG 747-400 manuals.

(c) All operations are to be operated as realistically as you can. Any flight found to be unreasonable will be deleted.

3.1.3 Maintenance Procedures

(a) Preflight Actions: 1. Begin by checking the airworthiness of the airplane. The logbooks

for all aircraft are located on the website, go to Fleet>Aircraft List and Logbooks. On this page find the tail number you are operating in the list. First determine if the aircraft is in service, if yes continue, if no stop and arrange for a new aircraft for the flight.

2. Check for deferred MEL items. These will show up in the MEL Items column. If the aircraft has deferred items a link will be shown here as “View # item(s)”. Click this link to see detail which item(s) have been deferred.

3. View the logbook for proper maintenance entries. If an item has been written up there must be another write up in the logbook indicating that either the item was repaired or deferred per the MEL. In the case of a deferred item, view the MMEL document for your aircraft type. Find the MEL number noted in the logbook and MEL details list (the View # item(s) link) in the MMEL document and read the conditions required to be met before the aircraft can be dispatched.

4. Check the aircraft type sub-forums as there may be details regarding how to handle certain conditions associated with a failed item.

(b) Failures in-flight 1. When the failure of an item in-flight has occurred first perform the

QRH (Quick Reference Handbook) procedure. Take special note

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 3.2

of the results of any system the QRH directs the pilot test. These results are to be reported in the write up at the end of the flight.

2. Write up the failed item. Go to Fleet>Maintenance>Report a MX Issue and complete the form provided. Provide as much detail about the failure as you can. For example, for an engine problem record the readings of all the engine instruments for the affected engine. This will aid in troubleshooting and repairing the problem. When you submit the write up it is sent to our maintenance personnel who will enter it in the logbook and either repair the item or defer it. At this point no further action is required by the pilot with regards to writing up a failed item.

3. NOTE: refrain from writing up and item prior to block in. From the time you submit the write up until block in you are operating the aircraft illegally by flying with an open item (has not been dealt with by maintenance yet).

3.1.4 Assigned Aircraft Registration/Fleet Tracking (a) Aircraft are assigned to specific flights. The assigned tail number can

be found on the Polar flight schedule and for Atlas and DHL flights they are posted on the Atlas and DHL flight board.

(b) In the event that an aircraft type is assigned to your flight which you do you not, use one of the alternate tail numbers provided on the forum in each aircraft type sub forum.

(c) Aircraft usage is tracked and can be viewed on the Fleet>Aircraft List and Logbooks page.

(d) Assigned aircraft may be changed without notice based on the need for maintenance on that aircraft or another aircraft. Check the Flight Operations>Route Assignments page prior to flight for the latest aircraft assignment.

3.1.5 Allowed Flights

(a) Polar Air Cargo flights 1. Flights you bid for that month; 2. Open Board flights if:

a. You are a new pilot who missed the previous bid; or b. You were on an authorized LOA during the last bid; or c. You have completed your bid flights for the current month.

(b) Atlas charter flights: Charters published in the Atlas charter flight selection page.

(c) DHL Charter flights: Charters published in the DHL charter flight selection page.

(d) All flights shall be completed by the end of the month for which they are scheduled.

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 3.3

(e) PIREPs will not be accepted for flights that were not assigned to the pilot.

3.1.6 Minimum Cargo weight for flights is 50,000 lbs, except for: (a) Specified weight for an Atlas charter; or (b) The flight is a reposition or ferry flight.

3.2 Globe Cargo Pirep (GCP) 3.2.1 Globe Cargo PIREP is a free program for Globe Cargo members. The

program was designed and written in-house and therefore has many custom features related to only Globe Cargo.

3.2.2 Download and Install: (a) Download GCP from Pilots->Downloads. (b) Installation is simple however GCP does require some files from

Microsoft to run correctly. The files are Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 or higher and Microsoft VC++ 2008 Redistributable package. Links for files as well as more installation and usage information can be found in the GCP help file: http://www.globecargova.org/GCP/Help/Help.html.

3.3 FS Flight Keeper 3.3.1 As a Virtual Globe Cargo pilot you are eligible for a discount off the full

price of the commercial pirep product, FS Flight Keeper. To obtain your discount: (a) You must have logged at least 5 hours of flight time (use FSACARS)

before the discount becomes active. (b) Contact the CEO prior to purchasing FSFK. The CEO will put you on a

list of eligible pilots which is referenced when applying the discount. If you do not contact the CEO you WILL NOT get the discount.

3.3.2 Setup: (a) Get order and setup information in the forum. (b) Download and install the appropriate installer package for your region,

Pilots>Downloads page of the main site. (c) Follow the setup direction in the region installer package

documentation.

3.4 Voice Communication 3.4.1 Voice communication is provided through the use of TeamSpeak. See the

GC Online>TeamSpeak link on the main site. 3.4.2 Setup TeamSpeak for use with company communication by following

these instructions. 3.4.3 When logging on to TeamSpeak and operating a flight, set the nickname

to include the flight number you are operating. For Example, “PO602 – John Doe”. Other times any nickname may be used, within reason.

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 3.4

3.5 Time Information 3.5.1 All times shown on the flight schedule are Zulu time. 3.5.2 You may operate your assigned flight(s) at any time; however, set your FS

time to reflect the correct month/day/departure time according to that flight on the flight schedule.

3.5.3 Time compression (sim rate) is acceptable on Globe Cargo flights under the following conditions: (a) During the cruise phase of flight only; and (b) A maximum sim rate of 4x. (c) ATC permission has been granted (online flights only). (d) PIREPs are randomly checked and any flight found in violation of this

rule will be deleted.

3.6 Ferry Flight Operations 3.6.1 Ferry flights are operated under 14 CFR Part 121 regulations. 3.6.2 Maintenance Ferry Flights

(a) For major maintenance repairs and heavy checks, Globe Cargo747-2/400 will be ferried to EGPK, Prestwick, England or WSSS, Changi Int’l, Singapore.

by Atlas World Holdings which is the parent company of Polar Air Cargo and Atlas Air.

3.7.2 ACMI is operated by Atlas and Polar on behalf of another airline that provides the cargo and is a large portion of the total Atlas World Holdings operations.

3.7.3 Some aircraft are dedicated to that airline and will be painted in the client airlines’ colors.

3.7.4 GC Atlas Charter Administrators will occasionally issue these ACMI flights and will note the client airline. Pilots flying these ACMI flights may use the livery of the client on that flight.

3.8 VATSIM Fly-in Operations 3.8.1 Pilots are permitted to participate in any VATSIM fly-ins and record such

flights in their logbooks.

11/18/2008 © 2008, Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines 3.5
