Ponderings by Pastor Leo

Come Lord Jesus and heal our land. As I work on this pastor’s page, my heart is sad. We live in peace and have abundance the world can only envy. We have prosperity today thanks to the hard work of our ancestors and our parents working to give us a better life than they had. We also work to give our children and grandchildren the best we can give. We want them to have a chance to pursue their dreams and to have families of their own. We know the good life they have compared to the rest of the world. But they are not free to enjoy the good life we want for them. Instead of being able to enjoy safety and security, our children are being taught that this land is evil. Leaders and educators are teaching them to distrust other people who think differently or who just do not agree with them. They are also taught to live in fear that the world is ending because one catastrophe or other that is imminent. I am in my 70s and I grew up hearing of one world ending event after another that never happened. The only thing I remember happening is that those who proclaimed these events made a lot of money for themselves. I also recall many living in fear because scientists also proclaimed that these things were going to happen. The only point I am trying to make here is that I do not want to see people living in fear that something may or may not happen. I have faith in our God and faith in mankind to rise to the occasion in the face of whatever happens. As for our leaders, when my heart is heavy and I think on these things I have to remind myself that Paul tells us to pray for the leaders of our nation, whether we agree with them or not, whether we like them or not.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. NIV

I am also reminded of God’s promise to us.

2 Chronicles 7:14 …14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. NIV

Finally, when my heart despairs, I remind myself that my God is in control and in the immortal words of that great American philosopher Yogi Berra, “it ain’t over till it’s over.”

On Sunday October 6th at 6:30 pm Love Feast and Communion will be celebrated in the Fellowship Hall. It is an observance and a recognition recalling the Last Supper Jesus shared with the disciples. All are welcome to join in this Christian fellowship meal and communion and participate fully as we reproduce portions of that final meal Jesus had with the twelve. The purpose of the LOVE-FEAST is to honor The Lord's will and His hopes that we, as the family of Christ, 'do this things in remembrance of Him'. Come and be a part of this communal fellowship which strengthens the bonds of harmony amongst ourselves and demonstrates our devotion to our Savior. Art Frank - Deacon Chair

An art auction was held at the Great Frederick Fair on Sept. 15th to benefit funding and support of agricultural educational programs. Watering cans were painted by many contestants, but Sherry Kemp’s watering can brought the highest bid of

$2,000! Sherry was sponsored by Valley Concessions and her can was painted with different shades of blue with a large rendition of a Valley Concessions vendor stand, and some farm animals that were three-dimensional.

Homecoming will be observed on Sunday, Oct. 13

during the morning worship service with Pastor Fred Bernhard bringing the morning message “FOMO Christians”. A children’s

story will be shared by Art Frank. A hymn sing will open the service. Bush Creek Youth will also be participating in worship. A carry-in meal will follow in the fellowship hall. Please bring a

main dish, vegetable or salad, and dessert to share. Invite someone to attend this special day of celebration.

We need YOU!

The Evangelism Team is planning a Trunk or Treat event for October 19, from 6 to 8 pm, to reach out to our neighborhood. We need YOU to help make this a success!

How can you help? There are several ways:

Provide a trunk (decorate your vehicle, pass out candy just like you do from home, and,

optionally, dress up in a costume).

Volunteer to help with the inside activities. The children will decorate mini pumpkins with

stickers and enjoy cookies and cider. Beth Green will share the Christian Jack O’Lantern

story and guide the children in creating a take-home version.

Come be a friendly presence to greet families as

they join us in the Fellowship Hall.

We want our neighbors to meet Bush Creek Church and to experience the love of Jesus. You are the Church! Come share your love of Jesus. For questions or to sign-up, contact the pastors.
