Tom Danielson was born in Alexandria, Minnesota but moved with his family to Phoenix shortly after where he remained until his mid-20s. Tom moved to Washington State on May 18, 1980 – the day Mount St. Helen’s erupted. Tom says it was a truly historical and memorable day that he will never forget. Tom initially moved to Washington to care for his great aunt. Over the years, Tom had a career in customer service and worked various positions in that field. In 1990 Tom met the love of his life whom he married a dozen years later. Tom and his wife raised two beautiful daughters and have three amazing
grandchildren. Although he and his wife parted ways, Tom says they remain great friends to this day. Shortly after his marriage ended, Tom secured a position with Tacoma Rescue
Mission where he seized every opportunity to minister to those in need. Tom was
diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome which caused nerve damage in his legs
and forced his retirement in 2010. Through Goodwill, Tom was trained through
the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). Tom was placed at
Lighthouse Activity Center through the SCSEP program where he continues his
training and volunteer services. He is now a registered participant and a huge
asset to the center. Tom is resourceful, kind, gentle, caring, and motivated
Christian man. He is a much-loved member of the Lighthouse family.
Tom, thank you for all you do!!

Just for Laughs A young man saw an elderly couple having lunch at McDonald's. He noticed
they only ordered one meal, and an
extra drink cup. As he watched, the gentleman carefully divided the
hamburger in half, then counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each
had half of them. Then he poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup and set
it in front of his wife. The old man then began to eat, and his wife sat watching,
with her hands folded in her lap. The young man asked if he could purchase
another meal for them so that they didn't have to split theirs. The old
gentleman said, "Oh no. We've been married 50 years, and everything has
always been shared, 50/50." The young
man then asked the wife if she was going to eat, and she replied, "It's his
turn with the teeth."

The story of Black History Month begins in
1915, half a century after the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United
States. It is an annual celebration of achieve-ments by African Americans and a time for
recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S.
history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter
G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president
has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries
around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to cele-
brating black history.
