SERVICE CENTER opened its doors at 3819Lafayette Rd. on September 1st, 2011 as a

community art center designed to spark realchange in an area of Indianapolis poised for amazing improvement. Located in a oncevacant Firestone Tire Repair Shop, ServiceCenter seeks to address, through creativeapproaches, many of the issues facing

Activity: Make a watershed sculpture — start with atwisted river, then add tributaries.



Eagledale Golden Eagles, a group for area seniors 55+,meets every Thursday at 2 p.m. at Service Center for our program called CreateIndy. We work together to draw,

write, and create pieces that are fun, tell their story, andspark conversation. In this project, participants paired off and traded stories about an object from their past. Thenthey created paper replicas of the objects.

About our MuralsAndy J. Miller is a designer illustrator specializing in whimsicalhandcrafted illustration with aselective color palette, a cast of characters, and hand drawn

typography.

Andy’s vision is to create tons of new and exciting artwork whichevokes a strong feeling that there ismuch more to life, right below thesurface.

Andy lives in Columbus, IN.

Clayton Hamilton considershimself a sign painter rather than an artist. His poetic mes-sages can be seen throughout

Indianapolis, the most well-known being the one justnorth of College and 38th St.Painted on a low wall near Hamilton’s home the muralreads “We have more in com-mon than our differences.”

“Homage to Lafayette Square”Based on the work of German-born artist Josef Albers, “Hom-age to Lafayette Square” wasdesigned by the participants of the 2011 Taste the Differenceevent. Attendees assembled color combinations. After, local busi-ness owners chose the squaresfor the murals based on whichcombinations most reected thecultural diversity and ags of themany countries represented in the

neighborhood.



What we do:



Service Center’s Programs

Service Center is currently open twenty hours a week.

We are also open for Special Events.

We welcome all visitors during all open hours &

encourage everyone to use Service Center as ameeting place, worskshare space, or open studio.

In just one week Service Center offers:

FOURTEEN hours of drop-in art, writing & creativity hours for

people of all ages.

THREE hours of after-school art, writing & creativity hours designed for kids grades 3-6.

TWO hours of designated long-term creativity workshopsfor children.

ONE

hour of lunch-time talks on a variety of topics relat-ing to our neighborhood, our city, and our world.

Made For Each Other is a series of art projects designed toengage members of the community in the creative experience.It is a social-practice public-art initiative, that involves neighborsin the planning, creating and celebration of community-buildingprojects; bridging gaps between art, artists, art institutions andother large institutions and residents of Indianapolis as a wayto creatively improve the quality of life for all. The artwork isinclusive, interactive, thought provoking and dynamic. Most aretemporary, experiential projects. But some, like sculptures and

Second Story is a distinct non-prot writing project serving kids,

schools and community organizations in Indianapolis, Ind. Our programs include in-class writing instruction at local schools,as well as after-school tutoring, creative-writing workshops andother events. Second Story’s administrative home is located atService Center.
