what to look for when purchasing a house
TRANSCRIPT
Many people buy a house based on just the house itself. If it meets all of their criteria, than they will buy without a second thought about it. They do not realize that the neighborhood is just as important to them. If they hate all of their neighbors and don’t like block parties but they have them once a week they are unlikely to be able to be happy in that house no matter what it has. Before buying a home
you really should do a lot of research on the neighborhood itself. You should talk to the people who will be your neighbors,
ask them about the area. Are their loud parties at night, do any neighbors play an instrument, does a dog bark all night? These are
all good questions to ask first.
Ask the neighbors about the house that you are looking at. They are likely to know things that your real estate agent will not. They will know if the roof has been replaced or fixed, if there were plumbing problems and other things about the house that may not have been
disclosed to you by the seller. They may have vital information that you need.
Also, since you are new to the area you may want to ask about local places. Where do people go for a good time? Where is the best pizza? What Chinese food delivers late? Where is the best dry
leaning in the area? Is there a pool nearby? Ask if there is a homeowner’s association or if there is a committee for the
neighborhood. Do they have events for people who live in the area? You will also like to know if there are a lot of disputes between
neighbors or if they get along nicely.
If you have children or want them, than you will want to know if the area has a good park. Check it out and make sure that it meets your standards. Make sure there is a low crime rate to keep them safe.
Make sure that it is a good school district and that a good school is nearby. Make sure there is plenty for children to do after school as well to keep them entertained. The neighbors can tell you if there have been instances of teenagers roaming the streets, if there has been petty crime in the area or if anything is going on that wasn’t
reported to the police.
Once all of this is done, you can get a feel for the neighborhood as a whole. You can decide it if is a house and an area that you will be able to live with. You may spend the rest of your life in this place.
You are going to want to know if you will like it. Talking to neighbors is a great way to get information that no one else will
have. This will be a big help.Resource:
