Dickinson and Whitman Project – Due Monday, 21 Feb

Option 1 - Illustration• Choose one of the 20 poems we

read – it must be different than the poems you were responsible for in your groups

• Complete a TPCASTT worksheet• Choose an image, metaphor, simile

or overall tone of the poem and illustrate it using that image/ metaphor/simile/tone as the central image of your illustration

– Include the title and poet– Include at least one line from the

poem that inspired your illustration– You may choose to draw, paint, or

use magazine clippings• Type at least one paragraph to

accompany the illustration explaining your choices and citing the source material from the poem that inspired the illustration

Option 2 - Analysis• On the website are posted the text to

Whitman’s “America” and “Pioneers! O Pioneers!” as well as an article from Slate magazine

• View the Levi’s commercials again and analyze the choice of images in the commercial (use the hyperlinks at the top of the article)

• Your analysis should be compared to the language in the poems

• The article has the links to the commercials that we watched

• You must also discuss whether you think that these commercials are true to Whitman’s message

• Your response should be 1-2 typed pages

• The written components should be formatted using MLA (remember, poetry is different)• Include a Works Cited reference line on the typed page
