WHAT I’VE LEARNED IN SOCIAL WEB CLASS

Introduction

I have learned many things in my social web class. I learned to use applications that I find in the internet. These applications include the use of “mind42”, which is used to make some kind of category to a certain website.

I going to show you a short slide presentation of what I have learned In social web class.

What has changed since 2006? In this assignment, we were ask to

collaborate to one another to get some feedbacks on topic regarding “what has changed since 2006”. To get the job done, we use a program on the website “mind42.com” and we are to make a concept map. In this concept map, we categorized the website we know. For example, “youtube.com” is on the category “Video Streaming”. So, that’s about it, and now we move on to the next assignment.

Wikipedia/What leads to Wikipedia’s quality? Here we are at one of the most difficult

assignments I ever made. We were ask to make an entry on wikipedia that we consider ourselves an expert, but all the things I’m good at were already made by somebody else and it is very hard to think of an article that has not been covered by wikipedia. Also, this assignment includes answering the question above. On the next slide you will see the contribution I made to wikipedia.

This is the page that I edited on wikipedia and I am very surprised that the gatekeepers in wikipedia did not deleted it. The one I contributed to this article which is the list of characters on “Megaman X” is the character “Double”. As my first time contributing to wikipedia, I did not use any hyperlinks to it compared to other post which is the character “Dynamo”. The next time I’m going to make a wikipedia page, I’m going to include hyperlinks to give support to the article I plan to make.

Make your own facebook App This is one of my favorites. We were ask to make our

own facebook app. What I did here is use a application on facebook that helps you make your own application called “App Builder. Before discovering “App Builder”, I searched the net to find ways to make a facebook application. Youtube.com helped me in search for a way to make a facebook app with graphics. On the next slide you will see or even taste the action of the application I made of facebook. Also I will show the youtube link that give me an idea on making a facebook app with graphic:

Make your first facebook app(cont)

Dealing with Newcomers/Encouraging Contribution This is more like the continuation of the

previous assignment which is making a facebook app. In this activity you record the statistics of your facebook app(e.g. number of fans, number of times used, etc).

This also includes answering the question “what makes social applications vital?”

Nothing more to say about this activity only is that this is a continuation of the previous activity.

Encouraging contribution(cont) Now this is literally the continuation of

encouraging contributions. We were ask to make a powerpoint presentation using google docs, which I don’t like because it would be a disadvantage if you have slow/bad internet connection. So, in this activity, we made a powerpoint presentation about our facebook application regarding how it works and the features of the application.

Wisdom of crowds/Information Cascades This is a debate form of activity on the

issue of “mobs(crowd) are smarter? Are you for or against?”

My answer to the question is “FOR”, because I believe that a certain something can be accomplished in a short amount of time with a group of people working together.

That is all I have to say and now we move on to the next slide.

The web as social network

In this activity we were like ask to give a website that is not social. I searched all over the net to find my answer and I came to the point that there is no such thing as a website that is not social, because all website are social in a way.

So, this activity is about answering a question and doing some research to support your statement.

The Social Web(cont) and Privacy This is a continuation of the previous

assignment. In this activity, it regards privacy on the internet and the underlying question is “Have you tried to google yourself?”. When I googled myself, I was satisfied with the results, because my friends can trace me on facebook, since the first result that came out when I googled myself is the link to my facebook profile.

More Web Technologies

So, this is the last activity that was given to us. In this activity we were asked to make a timeline of the internet and its technologies. To conclude this powerpoint presentation. I would like to show you the time line I made to this activity. This also concludes the main assignment for the day, “Making a Summary Portfolio”
