2014 - 2015 PARENT ORIENTATION

AUGUST 24TH - FELLOWSHIP HALL

KINDERGARTEN - 12TH GRADEParent Orientation for Kindergarten through 12th Gradewill be held Sunday, August 24th from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.During this time, parents will meet both as a large groupand in "age-appropriate" groups. Children and Youthactivities will be held during this time for students. Horsd'oeuvres will be served and the 2014 - 2015 calendar,trips, and camps will be discussed. If your student isinvolved in the ministries of Central, please make it a

CURRENT EVENTSADULT SEWING CLASS

Following the recent Summer Sewing Class for girls,

several adults have expressed an interest in an Adult

Sewing Class. The class would be a basic beginners

sewing class. If you are interested in participating in a

class offered through Central, please take a moment

and go online to our website and fill out the short form

for "Adult Sewing Class."

"MEALS ON WHEELS" NEEDS YOU!"Meals on W heels has an IMMEDIATE need for a driver

or drivers to help on the 1st and 3rd W ednesdays of

the month. If you would like to volunteer, please call

CUB SCOUT SIGN UPCub Scout is for boys in grades 1st - 5th. If you have a

child who is interested in being a part of the Cub

Scouts, please sign up on Thursday, August 14th at

6:30 p.m. in the Central UMC 11th Street Gym. For

NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSA New Sunday School Class for parents of young

children will start meeting this Sunday, August 17th at

9:45 a.m. in Room 302. W hile open to anyone, this

class is geared in large part to parents with infants -

preschool age. If you would like more information

SHIELDS CIRCLEThe Shields Circle resumes Monday, August 18th at

2:00 p.m. in the Parlor on 2nd floor.

BETH MOORE STUDY ON DANIEL On August 27th we will begin Part 2 of the Beth Moore

study on Daniel. You are welcome to join us even if

you did not do Part 1. Chapters 7-12 covers the

prophecies from Daniel through the second coming of

Christ. As in the past we will do the video one week

and the next week we will do the study. If you have any

questions, call Vi McBride at 601.482.5823 or the

church office after 1:00 p.m

WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE RESUMES

W e are again establishing a list of volunteers to serve

meals at W NL which resumes August 27th. Time

needed is approximately 4:55 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Volunteer servers receive a free meal for their efforts.

YOUTH MINISTRY

PARENT ORIENTATION - SUNDAY, AUGUST 24TH Parent Orientation was started several years ago to help make the transition from children'sministry to the student ministry as seamless as possible for our new parents and students.The fall calendar will be discussed, permission slips will be distributed, and there will be anotary at the meeting to help with the completion of these forms. This is the one meetingduring the year that our students share a little about what the student ministry means tothem and many of our musicians perform at this time. Whether you're a returning parent ornew to student ministry, please mark your calendar now to be at this meeting.

NEW THIS FALL - The ATTIC A new school year brings new changes at church too! This fall we are starting the "ATTIC"for students in grades 6th and 7th. The acronym stands for "A Time To Imitate Christ" andwill meet on the 4th floor in the room off of the youth kitchen. Mrs. Sedji Doxey will beleading this high energy time of fun and learning, so join us on the ground floor as we headupward to the ATTIC!

SENIOR ADULT MINISTRYLUNCH BUNCH

FRIDAY, AUGUST 15TH & 22nd - 11:30 A.M. For Lunch Bunch, we will begin a six (6) part devotional series called "Show Me The

W ay." If you have been driving for any amount of time then you certainly have

noticed all those signs on the side of the road. Those road signs give drivers

information and direction. This Friday we are going to explore one of those major

signs you see in downtown Meridian; One W ay. According to scripture, One Way

is also the direction sign posted on the road leading toward heaven. A driver cannot

travel against the traffic nor can they get to their destination by taking another avenue. All traffic

must go in one direction.

Next Friday on August 22nd, Dennis Gossett will continue his devotional series

called "Show Me The W ay." Look for the next road sign (YIELD) and what it means

according to the scriptures.

EASY CHAIR YOGAEasy Chair Yoga will meet again Monday, August 18th at 10:00 a.m. in the Byrd Hillman Sunday

School Room and will continue for a couple more Mondays. If we have good response, we may

continue the class longer. Email Dennis Gossett at dennis@cumcmdn.org if you have any

questions.

XYZ (EXTRA YEARS OF ZEST)Our XYZ group will resume Tuesday, September 9th at 10:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Please

make your plans to join us for some great food, great fellowship and lots of fun. The menu looks

good and it will be published in next week's Central Call.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

CREATION....We have all heard the story, but NEVER like it will be told beginning this weekin Rotation Sunday School!!! If you are a 1st - 5th grader, you do NOT want tomiss this week as we kick off our 2014-2015 season of RSS! We are beginningour SIXTH year! We have been SO blessed to have adults who have beenwilling to make the Bible come alive for our students over the last five years. Please remember, it is imperative that we have loving, caring adults who acceptthe commitment to help raise our children knowing an loving God to heart! Wehave opportunities for you to serve as little as an occasional one Sunday, threeSundays, five Sundays...or the ENTIRE YEAR, in a variety of settings. MISSIONS AND EVANGELISM

CENTRAL'S RAMP MINISTRYHELP WANTED: On Saturday, August 16th, volunteers from Central UMC will build aramp for Ms. Jackie Weir of 5635, Highway 11 South. Work will begin at 7:00 a.m. inorder that we might finish before it gets too hot. If you have not previously participated ina ramp build, you might find this to be a quite meaningful experience. FUNDRAISERS FOR THE HAITI MISSION TRIP

Friday, August 22nd - 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.Parents can drop their child/children off at the 11th Street Gym starting at 6:00 p.m. toregister their child so they can enjoy a relaxing kid-free date night. Ages 3 (must be pottytrained) and older are welcome. Pizza, drinks, & snacks will be provided. Standardbabysitting fees are appreciated, and tips are always welcome. All proceeds go toward theHaiti Mission Trip.
