“Receive, live, and share Christ” - from the CCASTA Mission Statement

The feeding of the five thousand that

we hear about in the Gospel this weekend is one of Jesus’ greatest miracles. This miraculous feeding is a clear sign of Jesus’ power to provide for all people be-yond our wildest expectations.

This miracle also utilizes the meager five loaves of bread and two fish that the disciples offer. Such a small amount of food was insignificant in the face of such a large hungry crowd, but Jesus takes the meager gifts the apostles have to offer and works a miracle that provides for the vast crowd. Many times, we can think that our meager generosity, service or compas-sion is so insignificant compared to all the many prob-lems and needs facing our world. That is when we need to remember this miracle story. Just like the apostles, Jesus can take the meager gifts we offer to others in his name and multiply them beyond what we can imagine. We see this in the countless lives of the Saints who placed their gifts of service in the Lord’s hands in the face of huge problems and needs. Jesus changed the world through very humble and meager beginnings. Jesus provides for the vast crowd from the meager offerings of what the apostles give. He has done that throughout the history of the Church with what the Saints have given. And He can continue to do that in our own time when we give ourselves, our gifts and talents to Him as well.

What Gifts Has God

Given To You?

-Fr. John

Joseph Miller is excited to serve as the principal this upcoming school year and looks forward to collaborating with the Catholic Community of Ascension and Saint Augustine’s parish and school families. Mr. Miller has served in education as a middle school science and math teacher for over thirteen years including three years as an assistant principal. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University, a Masters in STEM Leadership and Admin certification from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Both Mr. Miller and his son were baptized at Saint Augustine Catholic Church. Besides his work in education, he has served as the head coach for the summer swim team at Rollingwood Pool for the past eighteen years. He is thrilled to be serving the Catholic Community of Ascension and St. Augustine as principal of St. Augustine Catholic School.

We are very excited to have Joseph Miller as our new Principal of SAS.

Keeping everyone safe and healthy during Mass right now is a big priority and wearing face

masks is the best way to do that. Please make sure your face mask is being worn

properly by covering both your nose and mouth to protect both you and others.

Thank you for your efforts to keep everyone safe at CCASTA.

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR

The Little Sisters of the Poor were scheduled to make their annual visit to Ascension and St Augustine Churches on August 8th and 9th. However due to the pandemic, the Sisters and their staff from St. Martin’s Home in Catonsville are unable to make their annual church visits. As the Sisters and staff continue to keep the Residents at St. Martin’s Home healthy and safe, their needs are greater than ever! They appreciate your continued generosity in support of the care of the elderly. The Sisters hold in prayer everyone who is making kindness and compassion their priorities to ease the burdens throughout this pandemic.

If you would like to contribute to the Little Sisters of the Poor in keeping with their annual visit, you may send your contribution directly to them at:

Little Sister of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Baltimore, MD 21228

Or you may send it to either parish office, clearly marked for the Little Sisters of the Poor and we will forward it to them.

Thank you to our Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus You may not know that our facility manager Mark moved to North Carolina the end of March, and our new manager does not begin till September. I want to express my appreciation to the Men’s Club and KOC who have really stepped up to help us while we are short one staff member. These generous men have moved furniture, put things together, moved offices, landscaping work, cleaned up the property and helped scrap the old HVAC units at the school. Thanks to the men of both these organizations for all their generous service to all of us.
