✦In 2008 UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences contacted SOLID to collaborate on a fundraising event
✦This highly successful event raised over $11,500 for SOLID’s Health Projects

✦SOLID was founded in 2000 on Salt Spring Island
✦SOLID exists to support HIV/AIDS affected communities in Sub-Saharan Africa
✦Focus on Health, Education and Food Security
SOLID’s Goals
✦ To facilitate the success of community led projects in
Sub-Saharan Africa✦ Create long term, sustainable
relationships between western Canadians and communities in the south
✦ Address the urgency of global wealth inequality by facilitating the exchange of goods, ideas, and much needed resources

Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Centre, Malawi
✦ Provides palliative care to people suffering the complications of HIV/AIDS
✦ Objective is to alleviate pain and bring peace through a holistic approach to patients and their families

Khamboke School Swaziland
✦Sipho Mamba has created a school for over 90 orphans and vulnerable children on his family homestead
✦The Centre also helps local people re-establish traditional crops and learn permaculture techniques

Kenya✦Amongst Kenya’s Maasai
people, SOLID supports a campaign educating girls and ending female genital mutilation
✦Involves Tasaru Rescue Centre and community outreach programs
Masango Cultural CentreZimbabwe
✦ Focus on keeping the vital traditions of the Zezuru tribe alive by creating forums for the arts and daily life to be shared and practiced
✦ Supports practices such as organic farming, natural building, collective leadership and ceremony
Apple Trees for Orphans
✦Provides fruit trees for orphans in Africa
✦Provide a source of nutritious food and income generation
✦Project provides seedlings and training to help orphans gain a more secure future
SOLID’s Canadian Initiatives
✦ A Day of AIDS - a public art event of thousands of crosses signifying the number of people that still die every day of AIDS
