Bastille stormed in 1789, but holiday is commemorated as the 1790 Fête de la Fédération France as a new democratic state.

The Great Fear

Revolution was spreading rapidly across France people were worried the King and aristocrats would stop the revolution lead to panic called the Great Fear.

Citizens began to raid mansions of the upper class, burn them, and kill anyone in sight.

August 4, 1789 the National Assembly met in Versailles abolished all feudal rights and declared all people equal before the law.
