What are windturbines for? Wind turbines are large mills who catch the blowing wind. They are placed in areas near sea or places where there is to be expected a lot of wind. Wind turbines can convert wind into energy. Energy that is usefull for people. Worldwide there are a lot of ways to produce enregy. Some examples are: Atomic energy, water-energy. Some of those productions of energy are very polutioning. What are windturbines for?Wind turbines are large mills who catch the blowing wind. But the production of wind energy is very polution friendly, so a conclusion is that the production of wind energy

helps with the environmental protction of our earth.

Ofcourse wind turbines have some negative points as well. One of them is the production of sound. Wind turbines produce sound. The rotor makes a sound and

the generator and the gaerwheel make sounds as well. Nowaday the production of sound can be verywell isolated, but still there is a little bit of sound to hear. Therefor wind-turbines are mostly placed inareas where little people live, like beneath the sea and in open places.

Another negative thing is the killing of birds. Birds can fly into the wind-turbine and get killed.Rechearches have shown that there are very few birds killed bij wind-turbines. Only one procent of allthe died birds, have died by windturbines.

Another thing that people don’t like abouth wind turbines is the view of it. People don’t like it whenthey are in a beatiful landscape, and it is polluted by a wind turbine. Of course this is just a matter oftaste, and we think that this point cannot cope to the fact that it is a great way of producing energy, and much better than energyproduction by other methods.

Now we will try to exlplain to you briefly how wind-turbines work:The most important part of a wind-turbine is the rotor. When the wind passes the rotor, the rotor starts toturn around, because of its dynamic shape. By turning the rotor a as is being turned as well, becausethose two are connected with each other. When the axle turns around it is being accelerated by a closetwhich has a gearwheel in it. The fastly turning axle of the gearwheel closet starts on his turn a generator, and this generator generates on his turn electricity. The working of the wind-generator can be comparedwith the working of a bicycle dynamo.Nowadays our wind-generators are designed to turn around when the wind turns around. So when thewind turns from south to east, the rotor of the wind-generator feels that, and is dsigned to turn is head aswell from south to east. According to this we can conclude that our wind-generators can generateelectricity whenever there is wind.

A wind turbine

Wind EnergieAdvantages

• It helps clean up the environment• It’s reducing your monthly electric bill• It provide power to your home during

blackouts

• It can keep a portion of electricity when the power company goes down.

Wind Energy disadvantage

•Your’re property must be at least ½ an acre •You’re home owners association or city/county restrict towers •The average wind speed must be in the area exceeds 9 mph.

We hope that we have given you a brighter idea abouth the positive and negative points of wind-turbines and we hope you understand how the wind-turbines basicly work.
