Autumn Leaves and Berries in Watercolour with Kathryn Wickson SATURDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2016 10.00am-4.00pm

£40

Kathryn Wickson I grew up on a Warwickshire farm and my watercolours are inspired by nature, in particular flowers and hedgerows. My paintings are full of colour, and my interest lies, not just with the flowers, but in the abstract textures and shapes formed by the surrounding foliage. I studied art to A-Level and in the 1980s then attended Art College gaining a Diploma in Painting and Print Making. I occasionally paint landscapes and other subjects such as chickens.

The Workshop I will encourage you to experiment with watercolour, using salt and cling film to create texture in your paintings. I will bring some photographic reference material and some leaves and berries - depending on what is available

What to Bring

• Watercolour paper – I recommend 425gsm as we will be using lots of water and this doesn’t buckle. I will have some for sale if you don’t have any. Also bring some old scraps of watercolour paper to experiment on (I use the backs of old paintings from my ‘reject’ pile).

• Watercolour paint – tubes (not pans) as we will be using lots of paint – any colours

• Palettes or plates for mixing up paint (the larger the better)

• Brushes – a variety of sizes including one large one (eg size 16) or just bring the largest you have!

• Cling film and salt (both table salt and rock salt in a grinder if you have one)

• Masking fluid

• Paper Towel

• Pencils and a Putty Rubber

What’s provided • Water pots

• Drawing boards and Table Easels

• Hairdryers

• Paper available to purchase at the studio

‘Fast and Bold’ Pen and Wash with John Frith FRIDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2015 1.30pm-4.00pm

£20

John Frith

I'm mainly a Pen & Wash Watercolour artist, and I enjoy painting out in the great outdoors, because I love it when people come up for a chat! I use Pen & Wash / Watercolour because it's so transportable, you don't need to take lots of art materials around with you. When painting outdoors, I just take sketch book, a waterproof pen, a few watercolour paints, a brush or two, and a small bottle of water. One of my great satisfactions is running workshops. I find it very rewarding to pass my skills and know-how on to others. I like my workshops to be warm and welcoming, light-hearted and informative.

The workshop

In this afternoon workshop, we’ll be making a bold vibrant pen & wash watercolour picture in a dynamic way. We'll be using 'permanent ink' pens, and watercolour paint, which enable us to create pictures that are quick and easy to attain. The results are amazingly good and very pleasing! Apart from anything else, it’s great fun too. I’ll demonstrate how I use the pen to great effect and do my best to ensure everyone goes home knowing more than when they came!! I’ll also try to ensure everyone goes home with a picture of which they’re proud This workshop is for adults of any ability (including beginners, improvers and experienced).

What to bring

• Standard watercolour kit – paint, brushes etc.

• Good quality Not or Rough Watercolour paper (140 lb / 300 gsm)

• A permanent ink pen

• If you haven't got any of the above, it will be available to purchase on the day (at trade price).

What’s provided Water pots Drawing boards and Table Easels Hairdryers Paper available to purchase at the studio Tea/Coffee

Paint exciting pastels over vibrant ink washes with Tim Fisher SATURDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2016 10.00am-4.00pm

£45

Tim Fisher

Tim Fisher is a leading artist, author and art tutor. Born in Leicestershire, Tim became a professional artist in 2000, following a successful career in research for an international US company. Since the launch of his career, Tim has won numerous art awards. He was short listed from 12,000 entrants for the first Daily Mail ‘Not the Turner Prize’ competition. His pastel entitled “Pink Hydrangeas” has subsequently been displayed at the Mall Galleries, London. Approaching his paintings like a researcher, Tim works with the heart of a purist and the mind of a realist. Whenever possible he collects his own reference material by observation, field sketches and taking photographs. His work is displayed in public, private and corporate institutions throughout the world.

The Workshop Tim offers a new and exciting approach to painting with soft pastel. Working on textured Fisher400 paper (which Tim will provide), he starts with an ink drawing over which colourful acrylic inks are applied, producing an exciting and vibrant ground over which soft pastel is applied to complete the work. In this session we will be looking at creating an effective painting by applying these techniques.

What to bring • Matchsticks!

• Acrylic Inks in Black, Crimson, Yellow Ochre (preferably FW Artists' Acrylic Ink - Daler Rowney)

• Cheap ¾” flat nylon brush

• Soft pastels. Tim suggests either Jaxell 72 or Jackson’s 64 half sticks (cheap and cheerful)

• Folder or hinged card to transport work (to protect the pastel)

What’s provided Tim will provide students with his textured Fisher400 paper Water pots Drawing boards Table Easels Hairdryers Tea/Coffee Don’t forget to bring lunch!
