Located west of Chicago in DuPage County, the village of Addison was reportedly named after Joseph Addison, a writer of the 18th century.

History is a top-of-mind topic is this charming community, where the Balzer House, a historical museum housing numerous local artifacts, is open to the public and welcomes visitors year round. Century House, originally a teacher’s home built in 1893, was purchased by the village to help preserve this important piece of local history. The restoration and furnishings for Century House were funded through community donations. Both buildings are maintained by the village and its historical commission.

Addison students are served by six elementary schools and St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School. Transportation is convenient for residents with the Eisenhower Expressway and Veterans Memorial Tollway running through the community.

The village of Addison has been home to a number of notable residents, including professional sports Hall of Famer and legendary Chicago Blackhawks left wing Bobby Hull.

Just west of the city of Chicago, Berwyn, known as “The City of Homes,” is located in suburban Cook County. Situated in Berwyn Township, the city offers the convenience of urban living, with the calm provided by the suburbs.

The first settler in the area was Theodore Doty, in 1846, who built what is today Ogden Avenue. In 1864, a railroad was built through the city, and with the construction of LaVergne Railroad Station in 1874, the population grew steadily. Around the turn of the century, the city was officially named Berywn by two Chicago attorneys, after a suburb of the same name outside of Philadelphia. In the early 1900s, the city developed stringent building codes which led to the majority of new construction being two-story, Chicago-style bungalows. Today, the city remains known for its collection of these homes, and it is widely recognized as the most significant collection in the nation.

Berwyn North School District 98 and Berwyn South School District 100, comprised of 12 schools, serve the community, and feed into two high schools: J. Sterling Morton High School East or J. Sterling Morton High School West. The Archdiocese of Chicago operates two Catholic, K-8 schools in Berwyn, St. Odilo and St. Leonard. These schools feed into Fenwick High School in nearby Oak Park. Berwyn is home to an extensive parks department, which operates a number of parks throughout the community, across dozens of acres. Situated just 13 miles west of the Chicago Loop, Brookfield, formerly known as Grossdale, is a historic community located in suburban Cook County.

Originally covered by prairie grasses, forest and swamplands, today’s Brookfield was originally inhabited by the Potawatomi Native Americans. In 1889, Samuel Eberly Gross, a Chicago lawyer, began selling plots of land in the area. It is from Mr. Gross that the area got its original name of “Grossdale.” As Gross built more and more train stations in the area, the population skyrocketed, and by the 1920s was a fully-connected suburb of Chicago. After residents grew disillusioned with Mr. Gross, they motioned to change the name of the town, and it was officially named Brookfield in 1905. In 1919, Edith Rockefeller McCormick donated land at the Chicago Zoological Park to the Forest Preserve District, and it is on that land where Brookfield Zoo presently sits.

Elementary education is provided by the Brookfield-LaGrange Elementary School District 95, which is comprised of one elementary and one middle school. District 208 operates the Riverside Brookfield High School, which serves grades 9-12.

One of the most popular attractions in the town is undoubtedly Brookfield Zoo, which is notable for being open 365 days a year. One of only two zoos in the Chicagoland area, it is operated by the Chicago Zoological Society, and is widely regarded as one of the premier zoos in the nation. Brookfield is home to the Galloping Ghost Arcade, the largest video arcade in the United States. Brookfield is also known for its beautiful oak savannas, which occupy a large part of land on the north end of the town. These savannas, along with Salt Creek, highlight the beauty of the community and are a popular year-round destination for residents and naturalists alike.

CAROL STREAMLocated in suburban DuPage County, west of Chicago, Carol Stream was recently ranked by CNN’s Money magazine as the 69th best place to live in the United States.

A relatively new development, Carol Stream has the distinction of being just one of three towns in the United States with a person’s first and last name as its name. Although it is a commonly held belief that the town is named after a local stream, it is named after the daughter of its founder: Jay Stream. Legend has it that Jay was negotiating the development of a new subdivision in Naperville, when a clerk allegedly told Stream to “build his own town.” Stream quickly began buying land outside of Wheaton, and on January 5, 1959, Carol Stream was officially incorporated.

Consolidated School District 93 serves the majority of the village, providing education for grades K-8. Although the district is comprised of six elementary and two middle schools, there is no high school in the district. Carol Stream residents attend Glenbard North, a part of Glenbard Township High School District 87, and located in Carol Stream.

The Illinois Central Railroad operates a feeder line through Carol Stream, which runs through the main industrial complex of the town. National and international air travel is available at the nearby O’Hare International Airport, as well as Chicago’s Midway Airport.

With the motto “a great place to live and work,” it is no surprise that Carol Stream was named in the top 70 best places to live in the United States. The community is home to an extensive parks department, which allows residents the perfect opportunity to experience the natural beauty that the community and its surrounding areas have to offer. Consisting of over 35 parks, the Carol Stream Park District is home to recreational fields, tennis and basketball courts, biking and hiking trails, running and walking paths, picnic and playground areas, as well as fishing, boating, ice skating and sledding.

Located in suburban Cook County, west of the city of Chicago, Cicero is the 10th largest municipality in Illinois. Although Cicero is presently one of the larger municipalities in Illinois, it was originally over six times larger than it presently is. Over the years, the town’s size has dwindled as towns (such as Oak Park and Berwyn) decided to form independent cities and towns, and other areas (such as Austin) were annexed and absorbed by Chicago. As the size of Cicero has changed, so has the town’s industry and structure. In recent years, an influx in commercial developments, as well as new condominium developments, have made their way into the city.

The Cicero Elementary School District 99 serves the community, in 17 schools across Cicero. All schools feed into Unity Junior High, and then to Morton East for high school. Our Lady of Charity and St. Frances of Rome are two Roman Catholic, parochial, K-8 schools located in Cicero. Metra provides service to Chicago and Aurora at the nearby Cicero Station, along the Burlington Northern Line. Public bus transportation is provided by the CTA, as well as Pink Line ‘El’ service. Located partially in Cicero and partially in nearby Stickney, Hawthorne Race Course is the oldest continually-run, family-owned thoroughbred racetrack in North America. With racing in the fall, winter, and spring, it is a popular year-round destination for residents of Cicero and the surrounding areas. The Hawthorne Park District is responsible for the maintenance of parks and recreational areas in Cicero. Maintaining over 50 acres of land, some features of the parks department include: baseball and softball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, walking and biking trails, as well as playground equipment and areas for picnicking.

CLARENDON HILLSLocated in suburban DuPage County, west of the city of Chicago, Clarendon Hills is a rapidly-growing village in northeastern Illinois.

The first settler in Clarendon Hills was Henry Middaugh, who arrived in 1854. Like many who arrived in the present-day suburbs, he grew tired of city life, and desired a lifestyle without the “hustle and bustle” of Chicago. Although it was initially known as West Hinsdale, the area was officially known as the Village of Clarendon Hills in 1873. Middaugh is widely regarded to be the founding father of Clarendon Hills, and his influence on the town can still be seen today. The town is often called by the nickname “Daisy Fields” and this is due to the amount of daisies that Mr. Middaugh had planted on his property.

Community Consolidated School District 181 serves the area. Comprised of four schools, it provides education for grades PK-8. Clarendon Hills Middle School, the lone middle school in the community, is one of five middle schools that feeds into nearby Hinsdale Central High School.

Located in DuPage County, Downers Grove is approximately 22 miles west of downtown Chicago. The community has been ranked by CNN as one of the best places in the U.S. for a healthy retirement due to the community’s numerous parks as well as doctors and hospitals. Forbes also ranked Downers Grove #8 on its list of America’s friendliest towns, and according to the 2010 American Community Survey, Downers Grove was noted as having some of the nation’s most educated citizens, with over 50% of its residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. The community was established in the 1830s by Pierce Downer of New York. Incorporated in 1873, the village gained notoriety for its unusual spelling — “Apostrophe Free since 1873” — and is said to have provided housing to help slaves escape through the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. The community is also home to the highly prestigious Avery Conley School, founded in 1906 and located in the village since 1929. A varied housing stock exists in this robust community, ranging from historic homes from the mid-1800s, and even an assortment of Sears Roebuck Catalog Homes, which were built between 1908 and 1940 from purchased kits. Metra’s BNSF railway has three stations in Downers Grove, providing direct transportation to Chicago. Veterans Memorial Tollway and Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway pass through the community as well. Along with ample boutique shopping and upscale dining, Downers Grove hosts over 140 community events and festivals, attracting visitors and earning the village a place on the Chicago Tribune’s “Top 10 List of Downtowns.”

Located 16 miles west of downtown Chicago, Elmhurst is vibrant community known for its many shopping and dining opportunities as well as arts and culture.

Located approximately 10 miles west of Chicago’s Loop, Forest Park combines easy city access with a small-town sense of community. Forest Park is well-known for its many beautiful parks and its award-winning dining scene.

Incorporated as the Town of Harlem in 1884, the village was renamed Forest Park in 1907. Forest Park features a strong mix of industrial and commercial businesses, including a major shopping mall and a bustling commercial center on historic Madison Street.

Forest Park offers a wide variety of residential real estate, including single-family homes, town homes and condominiums. Chicago housing architecture has influenced many Forest Park homes, with bungalows and split-level styles prevalent throughout the town.

FOREST PARK

The Park District of Forest Park, located near the center of the village, has a 15-acre park with an aquatic center, which houses two large water slides and a volleyball court. Forest Park has been home to the Midwest’s annual “No Gloves Nationals” for many years and is consistently chosen because of its wonderfully-maintained fields. Madison Street is located in the heart of the shopping and dining district, featuring antique merchants, boutiques, and dining establishments. Recently Forest Park was voted by the readers of the Chicago Tribune as offering the “Best Neighborhood Dining” in the Chicago area.

Located on the western edge of the Chicago suburbs, Geneva is a blossoming city in the “tri-city” area. Composed of St. Charles, Batavia, and Geneva, it is quickly becoming a popular area for new residents, due to the extreme growth in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Geneva was first settled by Daniel Shaw Haight in the early 1830s, and it was chosen for its convenient location along the Fox River. In 1837, the town was platted and officially named Geneva. Just over 20 years later, in 1858, Geneva was incorporated as a village. Initially, Geneva was known for its butter, cheese, grains and meatpacking, although the town’s identity has morphed over the years, bringing it to the primarily suburban city it is today.

In 2013, Bloomberg Businessweek named Geneva “The Best Place to Raise a Child in Illinois,” and a large part of this is due to its outstanding public school system. Geneva School District 304 is comprised of nine schools, including: six elementary schools, two middle schools, and Geneva High School. Geneva is located within driving distance of two international airports: O’Hare and Midway, as well as the DuPage Airport. The city also has a stop on Metra’s Union Pacific/West line, offering daily service into Chicago, and ending west in Elburn.

Geneva is a popular destination for residents and visitors alike, thanks to its location along the pristine Fox River. One of the most historic sites in Geneva is the Fabyan Windmill, an authentic and operational Dutch windmill, originally built in the 1850s. Standing nearly 70 feet tall, the windmill is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is in near perfect condition.

Geneva is home to an extensive parks department, with over 30 parks in the system. With bike and walking trails, athletic fields, aquatic, community, fitness and recreation centers, a skate park and a disc golf course, the Geneva Park District serves over 40,000 people every year, making it one of the most extensive parks departments in the area.

Located 22 miles west of downtown Chicago, Glen Ellyn was incorporated in 1892. The village is known for its motto, “Village of Volunteers,” and is considered one of the most affluent communities in DuPage County.

Originally called Babcock’s Grove, the community was officially named Glen Ellyn in 1891 when it was founded as a health resort. Today, abundant area recreation includes 29 parks, the Willowbrook Wildlife Preserve, an 18-hole golf course and access to the Illinois Prairie Path. The quaint charm of the historic business district and varied architectural styles set amidst mature trees make Glen Ellyn a highly sought-after western suburb.

The village of La Grange is located 13 miles west of Chicago on over 2.5 square miles in Cook County. Founded by wholesale grocery pioneer Franklin Dwight Cossitt in 1862, the town was named La Grange in honor of the town in Tennessee where he was raised.

La Grange’s historic district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and contains many restored Victorian, Queen Anne and Prairie School style homes.

Located in the heart of DuPage County and within the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor, the village of Lisle was first settled in 1832 by James C. Hatch and Luther A. Hatch, who established a farming community near the DuPage River and called it DuPage. The village was eventually named Lisle after Lisle, New York, the hometown of one of the village’s early settlers. Lisle was officially incorporated in 1956.

The village of Lisle has been named one of the best places to live in the country by Money magazine.

Lisle is home to the famed Morton Arboretum, the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum, and the Museums at Lisle Station Park. Students are served by two public school districts as well as St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, Lisle Public High School, and Benet Academy Catholic High School. Three universities also are located in Lisle, including Benedictine University, National-Louis University, and Northwood University. Located just off the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway, transportation is convenient for residents and visitors. Lisle also has a Metra station, which provides direct access to downtown Chicago.

Seasonal festivals abound in this active community, including Lisle Cruise Nights, held monthly during the summer months when Lisle’s Main Street becomes an all-town block party; Eyes to the Skies annual hot air balloon festival attended by thousands; and Depot Days, inviting visitors to tour Lisle’s historic museums and a working blacksmith shop. Winter features Lights of Lisle, held on the first Saturday in December each year.

Situated on over 10 square miles in DuPage County, the original land encompassing modern-day Lombard was inhabited by the Potawatomi Native Americans in the early 1800s. Subsequently settled by European immigrants in the 1830s, the village of Lombard was incorporated in 1869 and named after Josiah Lombard, a Chicago banker. Built in 1870, the Maple Street Chapel was home to Lombard’s first village hall and library.

Lombard was nicknamed The Lilac Village after the estate of local resident Colonel William Plum was given to the city in 1927. Plum’s home ultimately became the new village library, and his garden became a public park. Today, Lombard hosts an annual Lilac Festival and parade each May, complete with lilac-themed events including an arts and crafts fair and Mother’s Day brunch.

Providing commuter transportation to downtown Chicago, the Metra Union Pacific/West Line railway stops in Lombard, and Interstates I-88 and I-355 also provide easy access to and from Chicago.

Lombard students are served by two elementary and middle school districts, and high school students attend “Glenbard” schools, named for the sharing of their district with the Village of Glen Ellyn. Montini Catholic High School also serves Lombard students.

Located just west of the city of Chicago, Lyons is a rapidly-growing village in the Chicagoland area. Situated less than 20 miles from the Chicago Loop, Lyons offers the amenities of the city, with the serenity of suburban life.

The first western settlers to arrive in the area came in 1673, as Frenchmen Louis Joliet and Fr. Pierre Marquette arrived in “Le Portage” after an ill-fated trip to Louisiana. It was this discovery that provided the building blocks for Chicago’s eventual boom, as Louis Joliet was the first to envision the eventual Illinois and Michigan Canal. Lyons has traditionally been known as a large Polish-American community, and street names such as Pulaski, Warsaw and Cracow, reflect the town’s historical connection with the Polish community.

Public education in the community is provided by Lyons Elementary School District 103, which operates two schools in Lyons, and three in the surrounding areas. All five elementary schools feed into George Washington Middle School, and Lyons residents are served by two high schools: J. Sterling Morton West High School and Lyons Township High School. Metra service to Aurora and downtown Chicago is available at stations in nearby Riverside and Berwyn,

The Park District of La Grange operates the parks in Lyons and the surrounding community, consisting of over 50 acres spread across a dozen parks. Located approximately 17 miles west of downtown Chicago, Oak Brook is an affluent village home to a number of prominent corporations, including McDonald’s, which is headquartered in the community. Oak Brook’s beginnings date back to the 1890s, when Frank Osgood Butler bought a summer home in the area. In 1922, his son, businessman Paul Butler, established the Oak Brook Polo Club and is credited for the development of Oak Brook. The town was officially incorporated as a village in 1958, and more land was acquired afterwards, including the area of what is now the Oakbrook Center shopping mall. The community consists of Butler School District 53, which offers Brook Forest Elementary School and Butler Junior High School. High school students in the community primarily attend Hinsdale Central High School. With its proximity to Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway and the Tri-State Tollway, Oak Brook is easily accessible by car, while the nearby CTA Green, Blue and Pink Lines serve as convenient public transportation options. Oak Brook real estate ranges from smaller single-family homes to million-dollar estates.

Residents enjoy various recreational opportunities thanks to the Oak Brook Park District, which offers a tennis center, bike bath, disc golf course, fitness center, the Dean Nature Sanctuary, and 150 acres of park. One of Oak Brook’s biggest attractions for visitors is The Oakbrook Center shopping mall, which features upscale shopping and dining opportunities including Seasons 52, Mon Ami Gabi, Wildfire and the nearby Gibson’s Steakhouse. Located 10 miles directly west of downtown Chicago, Oak Park is the 29th largest city in Illinois. A charming village with a rich history, Oak Park comprises three nationally recognized historic districts including the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District.

Oak Park is characterized by its many Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings. Wright spent the first 20 years of his career in Oak Park, building more homes in the community than anywhere else in the world. Home styles in Oak Park are architecturally diverse, ranging from Victorian Painted Ladies to Prairie. In addition to Frank Lloyd Wright, the neighborhood has been home to many notable Americans over the years, including Ernest Hemingway.

The Village of Oak Park is served by Oak Park Elementary School District, which consists of eight elementary schools and two middle schools. PLAINFIELDLocated southwest of Chicago in Will County, Plainfield is a rapidly growing village with over 40,000 residents. Plainfield is a reflection of the quickly-expanding Chicago suburban area, and appears finely positioned for future growth.

The first settlers in the area were the Potawatomi Native Americans, who settled the area until 1816. Plainfield is the oldest community in Will County, due to the settlers who arrived in the town that preceded Plainfield, Walkers Grove. It wasn’t until 1841 that Walkers Grove disappeared, and Plainfield was officially platted. The next addition to the community came in 1845, when East Plainfield was annexed, and brought the village to the boundaries it has today.

The Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 serves the majority of the village, while Oswego Community Unit School District 308 serves a small part of Plainfield. There are four high schools in the community: Plainfield North, Plainfield South, Plainfield East, and Plainfield Central. Plainfield is located just off Interstate 55, providing easy access throughout Illinois and surrounding states. For domestic and international travel, O’Hare International Airport is located less than an hour away.

The Plainfield Park District operates the parks and recreational facilities in the community, including a local favorite known as the “Splash Pad.” With softball and baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, walking and running trails, playground equipment, and areas for picnicking, the parks are home to amenities for residents of all ages and interests. The village also boasts a number of acclaimed restaurants, including Steve Buresh’s Cheesecake Store. Although relatively new, this bakery has quickly developed a reputation for having some of the best cheesecake in the Chicagoland area.

River Forest is a sought-after suburban village in Cook County, just a 20-minute train ride from downtown Chicago. With close ties to neighboring community Oak Park, River Forest is best known for its rich Prairie Style architectural heritage.

Offering an abundance of turn-of-the-century homes, as well as newly-constructed subdivisions and estates, River Forest housing is diverse and includes condominiums and apartments. Winslow House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1893, is one of the town’s most notable properties, and showcases the architect’s trademark features visible in other Wright-designed properties in the village and around the country.

RIVER FOREST

The community is one that prides itself on culture, diversity and sophisticated dining and shopping. The Oak Park-River Forest Performing Arts Center hosts stage productions by Circle Theatre, and other theater troupes including Festival Theatre and Village Players, whose community theater connection dates back a half century. The River Forest Park District offers an abundance programs, activities and classes for all age groups. Residents also enjoy almost a dozen parks within the community, including everything from walking paths to baseball fields.

RIVERSIDELocated nine miles west of Chicago’s downtown, Riverside is considered by many experts to be the first planned community in the United States. The historically-recognized village is marked by its expansive green parkways, charming town center and early 20th century architecture.

Designed in 1869 by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of landscape architecture, the village was incorporated in 1875. The Riverside Landscape Architecture District was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. To retain its original aesthetic charm, this village of some 9,000 residents even maintains approximately 379 antique-style gas street lanterns.

Housing stock throughout the village varies from 1920s bungalows to Victorian and 20th-century mansions. Many homes and estates were designed by such notable architects as Frank Lloyd Wright, Daniel Burnham, Louis Sullivan, and Frederick Clarke Withers.

Riverside is served by District 96, which has four elementary schools and one junior high school. High school students attend Riverside Brookfield

High School, which is part of Riverside-Brookfield Township School District 208. The village also has a number of private schools, including Tallgrass Sudbury School, which offers an alternative education model for students, grades K-12.

Residents take great pride in Riverside’s history and architecture, which is on display through walking tours, at The Riverside Historical Museum and the Riverside Water Tower. The charming village center features several restaurants, including The Chew Chew, which has been recognized by Chicago Magazine as one of the best restaurants in Chicagoland. The town’s stores sell, among other unique items, antiques and Victorian house fixtures – a nod to the town’s burnished architectural history.

Located nearly a one-hour drive from downtown Chicago, St. Charles is a vibrant western suburb straddling Kane and DuPage counties. With the picturesque Fox River winding through the center of its bustling downtown, St. Charles is regarded as an idyllic community and tourist destination. ST. CHARLES

Starting in the 1920s, many famous hotels and theaters opened in St. Charles, and the town quickly established itself as the tourist destination that it is today. St. Charles is also home to numerous festivals including the Kane County Fair in July, the Kane County Flea Market, the Pride of the Fox, and RiverFest. The Arcada Theatre is a notable attraction within the Fox River valley, where many famous performers appeared, including Martin Short, and the late Joan Rivers.

VILLA PARKVilla Park is located within the Chicago metropolitan area in DuPage County. The area was originally built as a subdivision to accommodate transportation for employees of the Ovaltine chocolate company in 1908. Villa Park was incorporated in 1914 by uniting this original subdivision to another called Ardmore, which was built in 1910. The two subdivisions provided an original population of 300 residents and flourished in part due to its location directly west of downtown Chicago and the railroad that ran from the Loop directly west to Wheaton, Illinois.

Architectural styles in Villa Park are rich in diversity and include historic farmhouses, Prairie style, Queen Anne, Arts and Crafts and English Tudor styles.

Students in Villa Park are served by Villa Park School District 45, Salt Creek School District 48 and DuPage High School District 88. Residents enjoy direct access to downtown Chicago thanks to the village’s train station along Metra’s Union Pacific/West line.

Villa Park residents enjoy year-round activities, including the Autumn Fest Arts and Crafts Show held at the Odeum each November, as well as a large sports and expo center in town. Early December brings the holiday spirit to the community with a Saturday evening Tree Lighting celebration, horse drawn carriages, trolley car rides and build-your-own s’mores. The Illinois Prairie Path, a regional bike and hiking path that runs within Villa Park, is popular for walking and cycling during warm weather months and enjoyed by cross country skiers during the winter season.

COMMUNITY INFORMATIONVILLA PARK

Situated 30 miles west of Chicago, just north of Naperville, Warrenville is a small community known for its scenic natural landscape and ample recreational opportunities. It is located within the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor, which is home to several Fortune 1000 companies’ headquarters.

Warrenville was established in 1833 when Julius Warren of New York claimed land in the area. A few years later, Warren built an inn-tavern, which still exists today. The town was incorporated in 1967, and experienced significant growth in the 1970s and 1980s as a result of Chicago’s westward expansion.

Served by Community Unit School District 200, Warrenville offers several public elementary schools, middle schools and Wheaton Warrenville South High School, which is located in neighboring Wheaton. The community is accessible via the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway and Metra’s BNSF, which has a station just south of town in Naperville.

More than 30 acres of open space offer residents a variety of recreational opportunities, including the Ferry Creek Wetland Restoration at Summerlakes Park. For those who enjoy jogging, bike riding or horseback riding, The Illinois Prairie Path also runs through the town. Additional attractions in Warrenville include the Regal Cantera Stadium and the Acorn Community Theater, which features large-scale summer musicals each year. Westchester is a village in Cook County encompassing over three-and-a-half square miles west of downtown Chicago. First settled by German farmers in the mid-1800s, Westchester founder Samuel Insull purchased the land in 1924 with the intention of developing an English-styled town and thus, many of the street names are of English origin.

Encompassing almost three square miles, Western Springs is an affluent village located west of downtown Chicago in Cook County. With a nod to its historic local water tower, Western Spring’s motto is “A Village of Towering Character.”

First inhabited by Potawatomi Native Americans in temporary campsites in the early 1800s, Western Springs’ was settled by Elijah Wentworth. In 1834, New York farmer Joseph Vial built a cabin along present day Plainfield Road, which served as the hotel, general store, stagecoach station, and post office for the entire area. Western Springs was officially incorporated as a village in 1886.

Western Springs is bordered by US Route 34 Ogden Avenue, the Tri-State Tollway, and Wolf Road, providing easy access to major Illinois thoroughfares. Daily commuter trains run from Aurora to Chicago through Western Springs, and along with Amtrak service, trains constantly pass through the village.Two public elementary school districts and one public high school district serve area students. After 1833, settlement rapidly grew, with most of it due to the expansion of the Illinois-Michigan Canal. After the canal project stalled, the Westmont area became a major produce grower, which led to further infrastructure to support the burgeoning industry. Despite this rapid growth, Westmont was not officially incorporated until November 10, 1921. As the Chicagoland area began to grow in the mid-20th century, the population of Westmont increased by over 300%. Today, the town continues to grow, and is an increasingly popular destination for homeowners and their families.

The area is served by Westmont Community Unit School District 201, which is comprised of five schools. J.T. Manning, C.E. Miller, and South Elementary schools serve grades K-5, and Westmont Junior High School serves grades 6-8.

WESTMONT

Westmont Senior High School serves grades 9-12. Metra service to Aurora and downtown Chicago is available at the Westmont station on the Burlington Northern Line. National and international air travel is available at the nearby O’Hare International Airport, as well as Chicago’s Midway Airport.

Westmont has historically been known for its contributions to the Chicago Blues scene, as the father of Chicago Blues, Muddy Waters, lived and died in the community. Home to nearly 18 parks, the Westmont Park District operates facilities for residents of all ages and interests. Park features include: bocce ball, basketball and tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, jogging paths, playgrounds and picnic areas. Westmont is home to a number of highly-regarded restaurants, including Uncle Bub’s BBQ, a local favorite for nearly 20 years.

Located approximately 25 miles west of downtown Chicago, Wheaton is an affluent community that has been ranked by Money magazine as one of the top 25 earning towns in the nation and one of the best places to live.

Wheaton was first settled in the 1830s when Erastus Gary, Jesse Wheaton and Warren Wheaton traveled to the area from Connecticut and claimed hundreds of acres of land. The Galena and Chicago Railroad expanded its operations to Wheaton in 1848, establishing the Wheaton Depot and ultimately giving the community its name.

Housing stock in Wheaton real estate includes a variety of architectural styles, such as Victorians and ranch homes. Condominiums and townhomes can also be found in the community.

Wheaton boasts two prestigious school districts: Community Unit School District 200, which includes the prestigious Wheaton North High School, and Community Consolidated School District 89. A number of private schools are also located

nearby, including St. Francis High School and Wheaton Academy. Two Metra stops along the Union Pacific/West Line provide convenient transportation to and from downtown Chicago, as well as Interstates 88 and 355.

With 52 parks spread across more than 800 acres of land, Wheaton offers endless recreational opportunities. The community is also home to the private Chicago Golf Club, the oldest 18-hole golf course in the country. The Town Square Shopping Center is the town’s outdoor mall, featuring a number of boutiques, big box retailers and restaurants. Wheaton has been home to several famous residents, including late comedian John Belushi and his brother, Jim Belushi.
