Greetings and welcome to the Western Gateway Bull Sale. Thank you for taking the time to read through our catalog and assess the offering, it is greatly appreciated.

2014 proved to be busy, yet unique and exciting for us in several ways. Our bull sale was moved to Ste.Rose Du Lac, the cattle show circuit blessed us with several signifi cant victories and Mark and Elisabeth married.

This years offering has several unique individuals yet it is deep with consistency and relevence. As usual our bulls are stout, useful, sound and highly maternal. Our largest group of RPY Game Day females are now in full production and have lived up to our expectations and in many circumstances have exceeded it. The Xtreme Sports females are coming into their fi rst lactation and have wonderful udder shape and volume. That coupled with the amazing carcass data that Sport has offered us and the show ring accolades his progeny have received we are truly pleased. Our offering is not large, however, it is steep with quality and is one that we are proud of. 40% of the bulls are Homozygous Polled which is part of the built in value you receive. Only two of the bulls are horned, what is lacking there is certainly made up for in their individual performance. THE BULL WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!! Thug is the performance bull with the ability to direct our breed powerfully.

He is softer made than most, refreshingly clean yet loose in his front, moderate in frame score with overwhelming rib shape,

muslce and guts. Thug has hair like a Yak, impressive feet and moves with herdbull presence and fl exibility. Now lets talk

feed conversion--since weaning he has grown in unprecidented fashion by doubling his weaning to yearling weight and adding

an extra 100 lbs for good measure. Look for huge performance EPD changes coming at the next calculation. Every feedlot

operator needs progeny off this bull. After the unfortunate loss of his dam Thug was nursed by a 12 year old cow that kept

him growing but not to the potential that he would have had with his own mother. Some moderate adjustment should be

made for weaning loss but we were thankful to have her do the job none-the-less. Thug is a maternal sib to our high selling

bull from last years sale and has accomplished a similar accolade by winning the Grand Champion Bull honours at Manitoba

Livestock Expo in 2014. Thug’s sire, Wulfs Xtreme Sports is a powerful carcass sire who produced the high selling yearling

in last years sale, yet, has the ability to sire show ring prowess. Sport sired the Champion and Reserve Champion heifer

calves from MLE 2014 and MLE junior Limousin show. One of these daughters topped the Manitoba Limousin Advantage

sale to Katilyn Davey at $6000. Thug also went on to be named the Junior Bull Calf Reserve Champion at the National show

at Agribition and was part of our National Champion Get-of-sire at Agribition and MLE 2014. We feel so strongly about his

Regardless of his birth weight, I would not hesitate to use this bull on large framed heifers. His 12 year old dam has served us so well for so long and is one of those cows that you hold out hope that a heifer is gonna come before she stops producing. Welcome fellow cattleman to the 2nd annual Western Gateway Bull Sale in Ste. Rose du lac, MB.Deanne and I are pleased to be consigners in this event along with such reputable breeders as Jaymarandy Limousin. A shout out goes to the Angus family for leading the way on this once again in Manitoba’s cattle capital.

There was a rumor going around that Auction Marts had to put in extra fi re escapes this past fall due to a smoking hot the cattle market and this is good to see! It’s nice for producers that have endured so much the past decade get rewarded for their hard work and dedication to the cattle industry.

Deanne and I feel that we have a very strong set of bulls on offer for this sale. We set our standards incredibly high for seeking genetics that we desire, creating functional cattle that will perform in any environment . Our focus is to create a cow that is moderate in stature, easy doing female that is still loaded with thickness, high fertility, excellent udder quality, and with milk production to bring back those big soggy calves that everyone loves to see. We feel these bulls exemplify our cowherd as you will see stout individuals moderate at birth, high performance at weaning with tons of barrel and testicle, as well as a good foot foundation under all of them. The true measure of merit for these bulls are the daughters that they will produce; Gelbvieh infl uence on the female side will give a maternal boost to maximize a commercial cross breeding system. Breed these Gelbvieh X females to a terminal breed sire and the result is more dollars in your pocket.

Once again the bulls on offer are April/May born, virgin, coming 2 year olds. These are not leftover bulls; we have simply designed our program around a later calving date with the bulls being grassed over their yearling summer to set a good foundation. This program allows us to develop our bulls at a gradual pace on a pellet ration formulated by EastMan Feeds, creating sound individuals that will cover more cows and are more apt to handle the tough country in central Manitoba. As a result we feel we are able to serve out bull customers’ needs more effectively.

Don’t discount this guy because he is the youngest bull on offer for he has a lot to deliver. His dam is a long spined consistent producer that has done well for us over the years. A full sister to 17A weaned off a fantastic bull calf this fall and there is a full brother waiting in the wings for sale next year. Here’s a bull that will add lots of stretch and hair to the calves he sires.

The longest bodied bull on offer, 9A will add pounds to calves he sires by “adding another leaf to the kitchen table”. His dam originated from Maple Grove Gelbvieh and has been an awe-some producer over the years. I tell a lot of cattlemaen “if a cow can thrive in the Interlake, she can thrive anywhere” and 9A’s dam speaks for herself by thriving in our program. Case in point, she raised a full brother to 9A who was sold last year to Matthew and Nikki Devonald. 9A is another example of the consistent quality that SLC 512T sires.
