PRESIDENT’S PAGE.
Hi All
Last month we had another Fun Day on the 25th August. What great weather we had on the day. Congratulations on those that got promoted on the day to the next class. Remember that five minutes training each day will help you and the dog to move forward in leaps and bounds. Thanks to all the helpers, instructors and committee that assisted on the day and of course Alf and Vin on the BBQ. Remember many hands make light work on the day
The clubs Annual General Meeting is being held on the 17th September. We did not get enough nominations to fill all
positions except for the position of president where an election will be held for that position. We are therefore looking
for members to get involved in the running of the club by being on the committee. So, what does it involve being on the
committee. There is a monthly Committee meeting that we would ask you to attend, help with counter duties for
approximately 30 – 45 minutes on a Saturday and to assist on the Induction table when new members join the club once
a month. There would be other little jobs you may be allocated on a Funday, at our Obedience Trial or other event. Full
training will be provided to all Volunteers so don’t be afraid to give it a go and help the club. Being on the Committee is
a very rewarding experience as you are involved with both the routine running of the club and the future of the club.
Please give it some thought.
On Sunday 16 September, the club is participating in the Wyndham Pet & Animal Expo that runs from 10am to 3pm. We
have been allocated 2 x 15 minutes time slots (11:45 and 1:30) to do demonstration on the day. If you can assist on the
day manning the gazebo and answering questions about the club or helping with the demo, please see, Ken Buckley,
Peter Miller or myself.
October the 20th, there will be no training on the day. The club will be holding their annual Obedience and Rally
Obedience trial on the day. We have many members from other obedience clubs that come and compete on the day. I
encourage members to come down on the day and have a look at what you can achieve with your own dogs. The day
also needs lots of helpers to set up rings at the start of the day and pull them down again at the end of competition.
Take drinks out to the judges and stewards during the day. Helping with catering for the workers, judgers and stewards.
If you can make something for the to eat such as a casserole or cake, it all goes a long way. If you can help in some small
way come and see me. A schedule of the day’s events are listed later in the newsletter
Until next month, enjoy your time with you four‐legged family member and remember lots of short training sessions
during the week
Ray Ashman
President

GIVE ME SPACE.
We occasionally have dogs at the club that require some ‘space’ around them.
Like people, all dogs are different and some dogs don’t cope very well when their space is
encroached upon by handlers or other dogs. These ‘Give Me Space’ vests are not exclusively
for dogs with aggression issues, but also for dogs that may have fear‐based behaviours. To
identify these dogs, they wear a yellow vest.
By a dog wearing these space vests the club believes it is a safe way for the dog to still
participate in their class and slowly socialise and integrate within their training class. This also
makes the class as safe as possible for all handlers and their dogs and instructors too.
Remember, we are working with animals, so we need you, our members, to learn to recognise
when these dogs are wearing these vests and give them the space that they require. If you are
around the clubrooms or in class and see a dog with a vest on, please assist the handler and
their dog by keeping your dog at least 1 metre away. You may be asked to move further away
by the owner or Instructor if they feel you are too close, please respect their request.
If you believe your dog would benefit from wearing a space vest, please discuss it with the
Chief Instructor. Please do not get offended if your dog is asked to wear a ‘space vest’ in class.
We have vests for small dogs and up to large dogs.

Savanna
Goldnymph Wild Iris (AI) RN CDX
Savanna is pictured above proudly displaying her certificate showing that she was awarded Third
Place in the Open Class of the Dogs Victoria 2018 Obedience Dog of the year. In the 2016/2017
Savanna also placed Third in the Dogs Victoria Obedience Dog of the year in the CCD Class.
Four year old Savanna is handled by Sue Ashman. Sue started the slow process of puppy training
Savanna when she was about 6 months old, leading up to her first Rally Novice Trial in October
2015. They gained 2 passes that day and the Title RN the following month at their next trial. This
surprised Sue as she had not thought that 18 month old Savanna was ready to trial. A year later
Savanna gained her CCD Title with results including two First Places. Since then Savanna has
gained her Novice Title (CD).
Savanna put Open together quite quickly, starting her Open trial career last November and obtaining
her Open Title on some extremely hot days in March this year.
Savanna is currently training and (Sue says sometimes enjoying it too much) towards competing in
UD, hopefully in the first half of next year.
