Each month a new WellNews newsletter (English & Spanish) will be available, along with other health and wellness tips and insights with the EPIC Lifestyles monthly theme. We will distribute these to you, with ideas on how to incorporate the theme into your workplace.

JANUARY CREATING GOALS TO ENHANCING YOUEncourage employees to set realistic goals for themselves, not just in the office but personally as well. Encourage employees to support each other and offer special recognition for achievements over the past year, personal and work related. All your employees may incorporate personal goals into their business goals for 2015, helping them strive to be better. Create a challenge around team building , so employees can support each other to be more active or improve an area in their life.

FEBRUARY THERE IS SOMEONE FOR EVERYONE! BE THE PERFECT MATCH TO SOMEONE IN NEEDPromote a heart healthy activity within your company, encouraging employees to think heart smart. Try the Interactions Tracker on www.drugs.com to be sure there are no contraindications with current medications. Promote a blood drive at work or locally that employees and their families can partake in. Host a CPR/First Aid class at the worksite.

MARCH INVESTING IN YOUR HEALTH WISELYOffer budget friendly tips for local activities, grocery shopping, and health care consumerism. Have a financial planner visit the office and offer one-on-one sessions to your employees. Introduce health care consumerism to your employees via an app (www.lyfechannel.com/healthfinder_app/)!

APRIL MICROGREENS: EATING LOCAL FROM YOUR OWN BACKYARD OR WINDOWSILLBring in local CSAs for employees to try, and purchase a membership if they want. Offer seasonal fruits and veggies in the snack room or break room that your employees can enjoy and have as a healthy alternative. Have a local farmer or employee demonstrate how to create your own garden. Anyone can grow microgreens, even in a small indoor space.

MAY SPRING CLEANING THE AIR YOU BREATHE Inform your employees about the smoking cessation benefits that are available to them through their carrier and non-profit programs in your community. Encourage your employees to get out and do some volunteer work at a local Regional Park, beach clean-up, or community parks and recreational center. Encourage employees to start a company walking group and enjoy the spring fresh air.

JUNE SUMMER FUN IN THE SUN: GETTING THE WHOLE FAMILY INVOLVEDEncourage your employees to get their families and friends involved in physical activity. Exercise is always more fun when it’s not exercise but summer fun. Post information on local fitness centers or recreational leagues that employees can sign-up for and participate in. Consider hosting a field day and invite families to participate.

Post information on the potential harm of UV Rays and encourage employees to wear a visor or sunglasses when exposed to sunlight for long periods of time. Remind employees to wear protective eye wear when doing activities that can be potential harmful to their eyes.

AUGUST FUELING YOUR FIGHT AGAINST JOINT PAINHelp your employees make good decisions on caring for themselves. Water is a vital part of any individual’s day, but sometimes we don’t drink enough. Offer branded water bottles to your employees. Infuse water with healthy fruits, vegetables or herbs in the break room to encourage employees to drink more water. Incorporate stretching into the work day. be it with a stretch break or starting the day off with a stretching routine. Give out information on the health benefits of just getting up and taking short walks around the office to interrupt long sitting times.

SEPTEMBER TRAIN YOUR BRAIN. UTILIZING LUMINOSITY TO SHARPEN YOUR FOCUSHelp your employees stay sharp by offering fun challenge mental games. For example, www.lumosity.com offers a variety of challenges in a gamified way to help people stay active mentally. Offer career planning to your employees, and if you have educational/certificate reimbursement, help your employees utilize these resources to better themselves and ultimately the company.

OCTOBER STAYING OPTIMISTIC AND KEEPING A POSITIVE OUTLOOKHelp employees get connected with community resources. Encourage employees and family members to utilize their EAP resources. Host a food drive, partake in habitat for humanity, or get involved in a non-profit fundraising event. Inform your employees about some of the local community events that they can get involved in and make an impact.

NOVEMBERGIVE YOUR BUDGET A HEALTHY CHECK-UP Bring your EAP or financial advisor to the worksite to give a presentation and hold one-on-one counseling sessions. Let employees know they can check the Social Security website to get forecasts of their future retirement benefits. Post some healthy budget tips for the holidays for your employees.

DECEMBER SUPPORTING THOSE DOING THE CARING: CAREGIVING RESOURCESBe sure to let your employees know about all the wonderful benefit resources available to them, especially during the busy holiday season. Educate your employees about some of the resources available to support caregivers in the community and in their own homes with non-profit organizations such as www.caregiveraction.org, www.caregiver.va.gov and www.caregiver.org to name a few. Include a payroll stuffer on tips and tricks to include in organizing the holidays to help employees stay ahead of the seasonal events.
