Welcome

Hello and welcome to Accelerate: Collaborating for Sustainability.

Accelerate took shape out of a growing recognition of the key role that collaboration must play in solving complex sustainability challenges and achieving systems-changing breakthroughs towards a sustainable society.

While working together is crucial, the barriers to effective collaboration are considerable. Exciting innovative approaches to solving our society’s sustainability challenges continue to emerge, but too often we become accustomed to addressing problems and issues at an organizational level, working separately on aspects of the same problems.

Accelerate is an opportunity to discuss the barriers to collaboration, and a chance for diverse groups and individuals to engage with each other, contributing to powerful multi-stakeholder change processes. It is an opportunity to learn about collaboration from experts and practitioners but also, importantly, to experience collaboration.

It is in this same spirit, the recognition that no single organization can chart the course to sustainability alone, that The Natural Step Canada has initiated the Sustainability Transition Lab and issued a Call to Collaborate. Whatever the challenge you may face in trying to bring about change towards sustainability, initiating a Sustainability Transition Lab could provide the path to a breakthrough by bringing together the key stakeholders. I invite you to discuss the Sustain-ability Transition Lab with me or another representative of The Natural Step Canada here at the conference.

I am extremely glad that so many of you are able to make it to Guelph and am honoured to be able to learn and work with all of you over the next few days.

Let’s accelerate change, together.

Food and Accommodations impact reduction

The Delta Guelph Hotel & Conference Centre is a Green Key Eco Rated by the Hotel Association of Canada and is Meetings Certified.

The River Run Centre demonstrates commitment to environmental responsibility through participation in programs such as The Blue W and City of Guelph Garbage and Recycling, and with equipment such as solar-powered hot water and reusable or compostable glassware.

All meals at the Accelerate Conference will be vegetarian, which reduces the total ecological impacts compared to non-vegetarian meals.

All conference materials are printed using environmentally friendly paper (100% recycled paper where available).

We have printed as little as possible, which includes the decision to provide an electronic registration package.
