    Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Weekly Reflection Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time | September 13

FORGIVENESS Nearly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways when the business they shared went bankrupt. The son blamed the father. They did not speak to each other again. Then the father became seriously ill. The mother

called the son and told him he had better come soon. The son walked sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son to him and whispered: “Did you ever think you could do anything that would keep me from loving you?” Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from Sirach tells us. Remember the last things. Stop hating. Live by the commandments. As St. Paul writes to the Romans, we are to live for the Lord and die for the Lord. Jesus’ parable in today’s Gospel reminds us of God’s compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the same way. Copyright © J. Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

At this time the faithful are still dispensed in charity from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. In addition to in-person Masses, weekend Masses will continue to be livestreamed on Facebook until all restrictions have been lifted. All attending Mass are asked to do so with patience and understanding. Please follow the direc-tions given by the parish staff and liturgical disciples before and after Mass. If you are planning to attend Mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, it is important to know the liturgical adaptations implemented on June 24. For a complete list of requirements, please visit gscc.net/important-announcement. Out of love and charity to our neighbors, please do not come to Mass if you are showing any symptoms of sick-ness. Pregnant women and those with pre-existing con-ditions are highly encouraged to stay at home during this Phase I of re-opening our parish community. Let us all continue to pray for those who have been afflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic through illness, economic hardship, or fear and anxiety.

    Reminder Regarding In-Person Mass

Special Collection The Church in the Holy Land – the site of Jesus’ life, ministry, death and Resurrection – suffers immensely from persecu-tion and instability brought on by war and terrorism. Our special collection on September 12-13 assists Catholics in the Holy Land. Your support helps with ministry in parishes, Catholic education and faith formation, humanitar-ian aid to refugees and

preservation of the sacred shrines in the Holy Land. Please be generous in your donation to the Pontifical Col-lection for the Holy Land by mailing your check to the par-ish, through our online bill pay, by texting HOLYLAND to 91999 or visiting https://bit.ly/HolyLandCollection.

PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY is coming up September 27th. Please help us show our warmest appreciation to our four priests: Fr. Michael Higgins, Fr. Ronald Mohick-ney, Fr. John Mark Klaus, and Fr. Zachary Burns. Please send a single "Thank You" card or "Thinking of You" card or just a note to "Our Good Shep-herd Franciscans" at the parish office at 1000 Tinker Road, Colleyville 76034. Better yet, if you have chil-dren, have them make a "homemade" card for the priests. Be creative! You can send one card for all four--they will share them. Cards can also be dropped off in a basket in the parish office. Through Friday, September 25th We are so blessed to have these gifted, dedicated men among us. We never want to take the presence of our priests for granted--especially as we celebrate the Mass and are nourished by the Eucharist. Help us show our TORs how much their gift of service means to all of our parish family.

Forgiven Debt Since most of us of us have trouble forgiving even once or twice, the stand-ard set in today's Gospel is hard to comprehend. To help Peter, and us, understand that we

are to forgive so much because we have been forgiven so much, Jesus tells the parable of the servant who owed a great debt to his master. https://watch.formed.org/carousel/videos/september-13-2020-24th-sunday-in-ordinary-time

Building Better Faimilies Joyful, healthy, pro-ductive, and suc-cessful—these are the responses we hear from parents when we ask the

question, what do you want most for your kids? We all know there is no magic formula for raising children. There are no shortcuts, no overnight solutions, and no parenthood manuals. However, with some intentionality and the tools we offer you, your family can have a great foundation for working together to build character strengths that increase the positive, intentional environ-ment in your home. After years of research, we know that one of the best ways for your family to thrive is by grow-ing in character strengths. Moral character and faith development cannot be out-sourced to a school, church, or sports program. It must come from the parents. Building Better Families is a six-teen-part video series. Each video is between 4-8 minutes long and helps parents learn about sixteen differ-ent character strengths and their opposing vices—the excess and the deficit. Steve Markel, the founder of Fami-lies of Character, narrates the series. https://watch.formed.org/building-better-families

We are less than 12 days away from North Texas Giving Day 2020. For the last three years, HTCS has been a part of this excit-ing day of philanthropy. North Texas Giving Day kicks off our An-nual Fund campaign for the 2020-2021 school year. Below is a FAQ about HTCS North Texas Giving Day and goals for our school. Our annual fund allows HTCS to continue to preserve the Truth, Beauty and Goodness of Catholic education. We need to exceed our goal to continue to educate virtually and in- person during this unprecedented school year.

Why is North Texas Giving Day so important to HTCS? Last year, HTCS received $77,964 in donations on North Texas Giving Day. We exceeded our goal of $70,000. This year, with your help, we believe we can meet and exceed our Annual Fund goal of $70,000 for a second year in a row. Our HTCS Annual Fund directly supplements our operating costs. The actual cost of educating a student at HTCS is $11,416. The current average ac-tual tuition rate at HTCS $7,270. HTCS is committed to keeping our tuition affordable. The Annual Fund assists in bridging this gap. COVID-19 has brought new challenges. We are committed to keeping every student, faculty and staff member safe. This year, we will have additional labor costs to sanitize the building, and a need to purchase additional cleaning supplies to fight the COVID-19 battle. If there was a year we needed to exceed our annual campaign, it is now!

What is the North Texas Giving Day Goal for HTCS? Help us achieve our $70,000 goal. Giving can be done online. Donations can be given as of 6:00 a.m. Monday, Septem-ber 1st - September 17th at 11:59 p.m. Go to https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/holytrinitycatholicschool to make a donation.

Involve Family and Friends through FUNraising pages to help obtain your family goal.

Does the company you work for have a matching gift program? HTCS has received several matching gifts from Lockheed Martin, PepsiCo and Fidelity.

Share the North Texas Giving Day HTCS link via social media, and ask friends to donate.

  • My brothers and sisters in Christ, Over the last year, we, as a community of faith, have been on a path that few, if any, have ever walked before. As this year began with the hope of continued prosperity, we were confronted with a global pandemic that compelled us to close our businesses, modify the ways our parishes provided essential ministry and retreat into the safety of our homes. As each of us considered how we would manage in this “new normal,” we watched as many of those we knew, were close to or cherished, became ill or lost the means to support their families. If this were not enough, we have watched, over the last several months, our nation struggle to address issues of equality, economic disparity and social justice. Yet, amid all of this uncertainty, and at times, chaos, the love of your Creator, the promise of your faith and the mission of your Church remains constant. Although many of us continue to feel the burdens that have been placed upon us in this present moment, we also must embrace the opportunities that the events of the last few months have given to us. Many of us have become closer to members of our immediate families, we have come to understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters who cared for those who were ill, we were made to see the plight of the poor, disadvantaged and those who live at the margins of our society and many of us renewed our relationship with our Crea-tor through prayer. We are a people of hope – no matter the circumstances and uncertainties of the present hour – we understand and be-lieve that Jesus gives hope to those who are ill, to those who are abandoned, to those who suffer from economic hard-ships and to those who live in fear and isolation. His love is ever constant, never changing and without limits. We may all take comfort in the surety that He has gone before us to prepare a place with him and our heavenly Father. In this moment, we are called to share in challenges that now face us. As never before, the world, our country, our state and our Diocese need the healing, teaching and redemptive presence of our divine Savior. As we look back on what we have endured, we must now look forward to what we must do for our brothers and sisters in faith. Your support of the Annual Diocesan Appeal provides essential operating support for those Diocesan ministries, out-reach programs, parishes and schools that bring the light of Christ that dispels the darkness of suffering, pain and igno-rance. Never has the need for your support been greater and never will the impact of your generosity be more deeply felt. Please know that as each of you walk in your own journey of faith, your heavenly Father walks besides you and, as a people of hope, you may be assured of my prayers for your parish, your families and you. Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Michael F. Olson, STD, MA Bishop of Fort Worth

Have you read Pope Francis’ Ap-ostolic Exhortation: GAUDATE ET EXSULTATE (Rejoice and be Glad)? “101. The other harmful ideological error is found in those who find suspect the social en-gagement of others, seeing it as superficial, worldly, secular, materi-alistic, communist or populist. Or they relativize it, as if there are oth-er more important matters, or the only thing that counts is one partic-ular ethical issue or cause that they themselves defend.

Our defense of the innocent unborn, for example, needs to be clear, firm and passionate, for at stake is the digni-ty of a human life, which is always sacred and demands love for each person, regardless of his or her stage of development. Equally sacred, however, are the lives of the poor, those already born, the destitute, the abandoned and the un-derprivileged, the vulnerable infirm and elderly exposed to covert euthanasia, the victims of human trafficking, new forms of slavery, and every form of rejection. We cannot uphold an ideal of holiness that would ignore injustice in a world where some revel, spend with aban-don and live only for the latest consumer goods, even as others look on from afar, living their entire lives in abject poverty. 102. We often hear it said that, with respect to relativism and the flaws of our present world, the situation of mi-grants, for example, is a lesser issue. Some Catholics consider it a secondary issue compared to the “grave” bioethical questions. That a politician looking for votes might say such a thing is understandable, but not a Christian, for whom the only proper attitude is to stand in the shoes of those brothers and sisters of ours who risk their lives to offer a future to their children.“ Read the entire document at https://tinyurl.com/Gaudete-el-exsultate If you perform works of charity and mercy now, what more can you do?
