Q&A with THORINTHORIN answers questions about his life, experiences, and good memories

Which words describe your personality? Strong-willed, extrovert, social, funny, inclusive and smart.

Describe your strong sides: I love to talk. If you would ever meet me, I would not shy away from a conversation. I love hearing different opinions and love a good discussion. This has been invaluable to me in life, giving me the opportunity to meet new friends, gain new business contacts or find a soulmate. I try to include as much people into a conversation or event as possible. I have a strong sense of justice and I hate seeing people get left out. It’s one of the worst feelings in the world and it’s something I try to fight against. I would consider myself a fast learner, always trying to think outside the box when presented with a challenge. I like to try out new things, if it may be new foods, new experiences or new places.

Describe your weak sides: I would consider myself a fairly lazy person, who loves going to bed late and waking up even later. It means that I have a couple of times arrived late to work, but being the excellent talker I’ve always managed to talk my way out of it. I have a short temper at times and typically it is the small, absurd and annoying things that can make me absolutely mad. I have a strong distrust of people with authority. When somebody tells me I need to do something, I would typically answer “why?”. Why should they be able to boss me around? Who are they to tell me what to do? This individualistic way of living has made me both many friends and many enemies.

Q&A with THORINTHORIN answers questions about his life, experiences, and good memories

Which countries have you visited?Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxem-bourg, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Turkey.

Describe the best holiday you have had: One of the best holidays I can remember was when I trav-elled to Greece with my girlfriend back then. We landed on the beautiful island of Santorini where we stayed a couple of hours before taking a ferry to the island of Naxos where we met what was probably the most welcoming and friendly hotel owner I have ever met. The island was a charm in itself, but we stayed there for only a few days before taking the ferry to the next island, Paros, where we stayed at an absolutely gorgeous luxury hotel. At the end of the holiday, we took the ferry back to Santorini where we spent two days with the most amazing view. If you ever get the chance, the view from San-torini is absolutely breathtaking.

What do you like the most about your own country? The best thing about my country is the clean air and the na-ture. Having the ability to go on long mountain treks, away from the busy cities is an absolute dream. During times when I feel lonely, sad or just need time for myself I would pack up my bag and go on a long mountain trek, maybe for a couple of days. Other times I would bring friends with me, maybe stay at a cabin. The second thing I miss the most, is probably the clean water. It might be such a simple thing, but whenever I return home, the first thing I do is fill up a large glass of water and chug it straight down.

Who are your idols/heroes/heroines? In my life, the man I have always looked up to in life has been my dad. No matter the issue or problem, he always had a solution. His pragmatic way of looking at life made a huge impression on me as a person and the way I live my life.

What are your goals in life? Back when I was young, I had high ambitions for myself. I would consider myself smarter, faster and better than others my age. I slowly realized that this better-than-thou mentality didn’t get me anywhere and I’ve smarted up since. Realizing that one is not the centre of the universe does something with you. Whereas before I dreamt of being somebody who’s pow-erful and important, I now have more grounded expectations of life. Getting a good education, exploring the world and start my own family are goals that are more realistic in what I can hope for in life. Maybe that will be the start of something great, who knows.

What were your childhood dreams? My absolute childhood dream was becoming a fighter jet pilot. My dad used to be an aviation mechanic on fighter jets back in his days and his fascination of fighter jets influenced me heavily. We used to go to airshows and I remember sitting in a pilot’s seat of a F-16 during one of these air shows as a kid. It was a very memorable experience. The dream lived on butfaded throughout the years. When I was serving in the army I considered trying to apply to become a fighter pilot but I never did. I still to this day have a very great interest in aviation.

Which values do you rank the highest?Individualism. Being your own person who decides your own fate is the most important thing in life. I would generally like a person who strongly disagrees with me more than a person who haven’t made their mind up, doesn’t care or just follow the crowd.

Which childhood experience made the biggest impres-sion on you? Being young and maybe a bit high on myself made me stand out during childhood and I often was bullied at school. It was very easy for me to blame the world for all my problems but it took some years that I found out that would not change any-thing for me. Blaming others, even though it might not be my mistake, would not necessarily lead to anything positive in my life. I realised that if I am ever to get something positive out of life, I need to change the things I have control over myself. When this hit me in my late teens, I started making changes that took my life in a very positive direction and made me into the person I am now today.

Which was your greatest experience or moment? When I got accepted into the university I applied for.

Happiest: I’m saving this one for the future.

Funniest: When my best friend and I laughed for 2 hours straight without knowing why. It was just a boring, normal Wednesday and I don’t know how it started or ended. I just remember sitting at the kitchen table laughing my heart out.

Scariest: When I thought my apartment was getting robbed only to realise it was my roommate hosting an after party.

Proudest: When I passed through what is considered “hell’s week” during my military service. The week is designed to break oneself both mentality and physically. Getting through that, pushing myself above my limits and beyond was the proudest moment in my life.

Most dangerous: When I took an Uber and we were pulled over by 15 police cars who had mistaken us for somebody else. There were over 30 police officers with guns pointed at us and if I did a wrong move, I would not have been here today.

Greatest sorrow: When my grandfather died. It was the first time ever in my life that anyone close to me died. I had been lucky living almost 15 years without anyone passing by, but when I lost him it hit harder than anything in my life up to that point.

What is your favourite colour? Orange. It’s a colour that stands out and is very pleasant to the eye.

What is your favourite animal? Polar bears. It reflects me as person.

What is your favourite kind of food? Mexican. Tacos are simply the best.

What is your favourite kind of music? Rock, Metal and Classical Music. For me, the melodies and the instruments will always be the most important part of any song I listen to. A song for me must evoke a feeling, and no other genres than these do so.

What is your favourite kind of car? Audi. It’s the best looking and best performing.

What is your favourite kind of pet? Dogs. I grew up with two dogs. The loyalty and companion-ship a dog offers is unparalleled to anything on earth.

What is your favourite time of year? Summer. Because of the warmth and how it allows people to stay outside and socialise.

What is your favourite book and/or author?“The Song of Ice and Fire” series by George R.R. Martin. Ba-sically. because it’s one of the best fantasy series of all time which lets you be drawn into a believable world.

What is your favourite movie and/or director? Quentin Tarantino. The movies he produces are all so inter-esting and unique compared to anything else made. The dia-logue is probably the best part, as it stands out from all other movies where it tends to be cliché.
