The winner of the Adopt-A-Towboat contest for 2007-2008 was Karla Lindsey’s 5th grade class from Reidland Elementary. The awards ceremony was held on May 22nd with the class watching a movie in Maiden Alley Cinema as well as receiving a cash prize. The winning boat was the M/V Brenda Koestler of United Barge Line. Celebrating with the children were Barry Brown, Chairman of Economics Murray State University, and co-author of the Adopt-a-Towboat curriculum, Larry Barnes, Vessels Operation Manager, United Barge Line, and Jamie Ramey, captain of M/V Brenda Koestler. Captain Brandon Robertson was absent.

This summer finds us shifting into an ever higher gear to move out of our existing office space and make room for our new exhibits coming soon. The new exhibit hall will house our very own navigational pilot house simulator. What great fun we will all have trying our hands at piloting a boat on the river. There will be several scenarios that will allow you to experience the river as you probably never have. Watch your mailbox for news of our opening of the simulator and other new interactives. In this issue, you will see what great fun our new summer camp, Wednesday’s on the Waterfront, was for area children. The kids learned and discovered new things about the river and took home a unique summer experience.

We also salute two board members, John Crivello and Jeff Yates, for their awards on Maritime Day presented by the local chapter of the International Propeller Club.

We appreciate all of your continued support and enthusiasm about the museum and our exciting future. Please spread the word about us and don’t be a stranger.
