NEW! Advanced AstronomyIn celebration of the International Year ofAstronomy, Science Discovery is offering anadvanced Astronomy class in collaborationwith Fiske Planetarium. With the discovery ofsuch exotic objects as quasars, pulsars, neutronand x-ray stars and the likelihood of blackholes, it is no small wonder that widespreadinterest in astronomy is increasing. In this class, you'll gain an understanding and appreciationfor the recent discoveries and activities thathave created the new era in astronomy. We'lldelve into the exciting information on planets, black holes and their space-time environment. We’ll also learn how astronomy interfaces withother areas of science to provide a compre-hensive commentary on current views in thisever-changing field. Animal BehaviorDid you know that scientists have recorded atleast 20 different “words” used by prairie dogs, that some ants can recognize their nestmate justby smell, or that some fish actually raise theireggs in their mouth? These are just a fewinteresting animal behavior facts that we willexplore. This class combines hands onexperiments with outdoor activities to introduceyou to the fascinating world of animal behavior.By the end of this class, you will be able to answerquestions such as: Can you teach an old fish newtricks? How do you know if a fish is territorial? Why do some fish swim in schools? What makesan animal social? How do animals communicate? In the end, you will appreciate and understandwhy some animals do what they do.

Life in Ponds & Streams: A Field ClassWhat secrets lie beneath the surface of the stream flowing by us, or the pond over there? Whatanimal left those unusual tracks along the water’s edge? What kind of nest is that between thebranches above? What is the name of that insect that buried its larvae beneath the mud? Are all ofthese things in a pond or stream ecosystem somehow connected? We will answer these questionsand many more as we explore a new pond or stream each day. We will look at the smallest animalsunder a microscope and catch larger ones with a net. We'll make clay animals and plaster casts oftracks. Join us for this watery adventure!
