WANT TO CHEER PARISH HOMEBOUND? HELP CHILDREN? HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES? St. Philip Parish Homebound, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Posey County, and Ozanam Family Shelter of Evansville are once again the Stewardship Committee’s “Christmas in July” Starfish Project this year. Big Brothers/ Sisters’ mission is to provide a mentoring program to help children facing adversity change their lives for the better, reducing the cycle of poverty, drugs, and crime. Ozanam's mission is to provide emergency temporary shelter to homeless women and families, and assist them to maintain self sufficiency during and after their stay. The tree will be in the Gathering area soon. This is a great opportunity to support and share with our own homebound parishioners. Please select one or more “Starfish” from the tree and return items UNWRAPPED by Sunday, August 5th. Contact Clare Hassler, 812-480-2382 if you have any questions.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, It is hard to believe that in less than a month school will be starting. Although it is hard to believe, it certainly will a great joy for me to have our children back on campus on a daily basis and to have our beautiful school Masses. They certainly bring a lot of life to our parishes and the energy is palpable in the air. With that in mind, I would like to focus this week on the role of our school parents. I want to stress to you the absolute importance of you bringing your children to Church on Sun-day. We can have strong academics and our teachers can have incredible programs planned about our faith but if it is not reinforced by the parents it will not register with them. Remember that the Church teaches that parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of the faith. From that logic, flows the importance of going to Church on Sunday. I know that it can difficult on the weekend with so many ac-tivities and when Sunday morning comes the temptation is to just rest at home. Resist that temptation and make the sacrifice to get to Church. It is the ultimate lesson plan. That consecration of time to the Lord and keeping that day sa-cred is extremely important to the spiritual health of our families. Remember the famous saying coined by Fr. Patrick Peyton, "The family that prays together, stays together." There is no more powerful prayer than coming to the sa-cred Mass on Sunday. I love you all.

In the Heart of Christ, Fr. Dusty Burns
