Charles Kennedy – Gospel Guitar

Charles began singing at the age of nine, starting in the

First Baptist Missionary Church in Oxford Ohio. As a

teen, he joined the young adult choir and has been singing

ever since! During his training as a young deacon, part of

his duties was leading the prelude to worship. As an adult,

Charles and his brothers formed an a cappella group.

Charles enjoys playing before audiences large and small

and is pleased to sing and play for you.

Charles moved to Dayton from Oxford in 1990 to attend

Wright State University from which he graduated in 1997.

Although he was not able to serve in the military, Charles

comes from a military family. His older brother served in

Vietnam and younger brothers were in Desert Storm.

Charles himself worked many years at, and retired from

Wright-Patterson AFB.

Charles is honored to play for you on Sunday, May 25 -

Main Stage at 12:00 PM. Charles will then go to the

historic Protestant Chapel to lead the singing during the

Gold Star Wives Memorial Service at 1:00 PM.

Dayton ASALH 30th

Annual Essay Contest Award Presentation

Youth in the Civil Rights Struggle ASALH: Association for the Study of African American Life and History

Paul Laurence Dunbar BRANCH, Dayton, OH

This is the 30th year of the Dayton association’s

ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST. Students have a

unique opportunity to improve their writing skills, increase their knowledge of recent history

and compete for a monetary award. The contest

was open to all undergraduate and graduate college students.

This year’s theme is “Youth in the Civil Rights Struggle.” As much as some of us had not

imagined during the 1960s and the 1970s, we

now know that our youth, our own children, must be encouraged to follow their predecessors’

footsteps, demonstrated by critical thought and

social justice action. We must know our past to effectively chart our future. The deadline for receipt of entries was Friday, April 4.

The winning students will read their essays and be presented with American Veterans Heritage Center’s cash

awards and Certificates, presented by Abraham Lincoln (James Crabtree). Congratulations to all winners!

Be sure to attend this special awards ceremony: Band Stand - Sunday, May 25 at 3:00 PM. HOME

Eric Loy Guitarist / Composer / Teacher

Since the initial impetus to take up the guitar, which was

witnessing The Beatles’ performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in Feb 1964, Eric Loy has continued to explore and

coerce music of diverse parameters from rock to jazz to

classical to new age. The culmination has distilled into an eclectic blend which Loy delivers with humor and panache

on solo finger-style guitar and on his custom-built 24 string

Harp-Guitar.

On the stage, Eric Loy has opened shows for such guitar

legends as Leo Kottke, Preston Reed, Adrian Legg, Jorma Kaukonen and others.

In the teaching field, Mr. Loy has been a full-time guitar pedagogue (teacher) for the last three decades.

Several CD albums of original compositions, both solo and with Hipperoos (jazz-rock fusion power trio), have

been recorded and all are available from http://www.ericloy.com website and at live performances.

Far From Eden formed as an

acoustic duo in 2004 with Nathan

Goff on guitar and Kimberly Weiss

on lead vocals. The duet became a trio

with the addition of Pat Lake in 2005

on djembe.

Based on the socially-aware poetry of Goff and the soulful, melodic vocals

of Weiss, this early body of work was

recorded on the 2006 demo, Fresh from the Garden, to wide support, but

the trio was forced to take a hiatus in

2007 due to other musical projects.

In 2012, the founding members,

Nathan and Kimberly, decided that it

was time to start the project again.

With the recent addition in 2013 of Carissa Hays on djembe, the sound has grown to include Hays' counter-point rhythms, and the addition of

Donnie Rose on second guitar has added a great lead voice as well as rhythm support to the project. The quartet

has been busy learning new material, developing media for sharing with fans, building their live rapport, and booking shows.

Margaret & the Magnets

Margaret and the Magnets is a versatile blues/rock band from West-central Ohio. The dynamics of this group is an

interesting mix of father and daughter along with a two very

experienced musicians. The group was formed when two partial groups attended an open music jam. Realizing that

only having a partial group would not get them on stage,

members of two separate groups formed as one for the evening and from that point forward, Margaret and the

Magnets has become a band. Margaret and the Magnets

currently consist of Margaret Ann Myers- singer, having performed the past three years with the groups "As We

Crash" and "Last Minute" - bass and vocals. Brian Gantt-

guitar, Brian has done some studio work for guitar pedal manufacturers for demos, also played with C.G.MOB back in

the '90s. Jon Myers- bass guitar, played bass for Crooked

Finger from 2001-2013, Hogg Wild from 1995-1999. Seth Oda- drums, plays drums for AS We Crash 2011-2014 and

plays bass guitar for Shotgun Surprise 2013-2014.

With an emphasis on a bluesier vibe, Margaret and the

Magnets has been a pleasant new arrival to the local music scene.

“STIRRED NOT SHAKEN” Stirred Not Shaken is a contemporary praise & worship group incorporating melodies that will remind you of popular Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) artists such as Chris Tomlin, David Crowder and Third Day.

But unlike your average CCM group, what sets the band apart is their ability to add a healthy dose of

improvisation, drawn from rock, pop, blues and jazz genres.

Sometimes called "Free worship", this spontaneous approach ensures every live performance from the band will

be unique and dynamic, allowing them to adapt on the fly, to the moving of the Spirit of God.

Please join the band as they lead you in to the presence of God, with offerings of uplifting lyrics, unforgettable

melodies and musical virtuosity!

SWITCH 2 When two bands merged in 1976 they decided

that since the musicians switched instruments

during the show that “SWITCH” was as good

a name as any. A year later they recorded as

SWITCH “77 with producer Gene “By-Golly”

Berry

Three years ago SWITCH took the stage with

Acts of Genesis for the 9th Patriot Freedom

Festival. A year later Wayne and Brian

Seibert returned to stage with original

members Bill Johnston and Jerry Greer.

Denver Lewis and Craig Jackson took the

stage as the first incarnation of SWITCH 2. Grant “King” Koeller surprised them with a guest appearance at the

9th Patriot Freedom Festival.

Now returning for the third year is SWITCH 2 complete with last year’s original seven members. Not wanting

to be left out, Joe Minor who played in 2012 will be returning along with new member Kenneth Allan. Special

guests this year will be Kimberley Weiss and Nathan Goff will be onstage before performing with their own

band “Far From Eden”. Switch 2, led by Wayne Seibert, returns to the Patriot Freedom Festival on

THE VIBE

A dynamic trio! Featuring Tom Kellogg on drums, Dwight

Scott on bass and Marcus Cornwell on guitar. The Vibe started jamming together during the spring and summer of 2012 in

Dayton, Ohio. Their first gig was in the summer at One Eyed

Jacks in Fairborn, Ohio, hosted by Jay Madewell. In 2014, The Vibe has performed numerous shows throughout Dayton,

Columbus, Cleveland, Ohio and Kentucky areas. The dynamic

trio has already performed at the Cleveland Music Festival and Pawapalooza-Battle of the Bands Festival in 2013. They also

collaborate and have done shows with other artists such as

Rasheed, Tino, Obelo, Paige Beller(Jasper The Collosal), Mayliner, Copywrite, and many others.

The Vibe has also opened up for Chicago's #1 International touring rock band, The Steepwater Band. The Vibe itself is a multi-genre band that incorporates the influences

of many artists, genres, and styles. They compose their own songs, as well as cover other artist’s songs. Not to

be mistaken, they will bring the heat on stage, artists unafraid to step outside the box and experiment. Every show features their songs but they also add different elements such as tone color and dynamics. Improvisation is

a huge factor for the band, so therefore no one performance will be the same.

An experience every time, The Vibe will deliver great music to the Patriot Freedom Festival:
