WHO WE AREOff-Campus Life serves as an advocate for commuter, off-campus and non-traditional students’ needs and provides access to critical resources to assist students in becoming active and engaged participants within their respective communities.
EDMOND, OKLAHOMAEdmond is rated the fourth safest city in the state. Home to award winning school districts, Edmond has something for everyone. A quaint downtown located near campus has shopping and restaurant options that are growing every year. Edmond is centrally located; even a part of Historic Route 66 runs through it. Staying for a while never felt some comfortable. Since Oklahoma is so affordable, rental opportunities can change quickly. Edmond offers plenty of options for a variety of students.
THE HUNTOCL provides you with the resources to make finding your perfect place that much easier. Most searches start online, so why not use UCO’s own Off-Campus Apartment Finder.
Log on to www.ucooffcampus.com and use your UCOnnect information to sign in for free. Check out the rentals posted and look for roommates who go to the same school as you.
Our office has an open door policy. We are here to assist you in anyway we can.
It is encouraged if you are looking for fall semester housing to start searching around the end of May. Check out neighborhoods to find one that fits you and your budget.
Just because you live off campus, doesn't mean you are loosing the traditional college experience. There are clubs, activities and volunteer opportunities for every type of student.
Here is some information about some of the offices here on campus.
Volunteer and Service Learning Center (VSLC)
NUC 212
Provides opportunities through out the year for
students to earn volunteer hours.
Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI)
NUC 211
Hosts student events and activities.
Career Development Center(CDC)
NUC 338
Provides resume assistance, career advice, hosts events.
WHAT IS ORGSYNC
Orgsync is the University wide way for students to have a central way to access different offices and organizations. Every student with a UCOnnect username and password already has an OrgSync.
You can follow organizations that are of interest to you and receive information from campus about activities and events.
You can also use OrgSync to look up opportunities off-campus that are held through partners. For instance, if you are looking for a volunteering event that focuses on dogs, you can search for that specific term and it will tell you what your options are.
OrgSync is also used to log those services hours. By gaining enough hours over your time as a student, you could be awarded the Distinguished Service Graduate medal and certificate.

Going green can save you green!
The following is provided by Edmond Electric and the City of Edmond in cooperation with the University of Central Oklahoma, Off-Campus Life, and the Office of Sustainability. Some of these tips may require physical changes to your home, if you are a renter be sure to discuss all changed with your landlord or property manager.
General Efficiency Tips Plug holes and cracks in walls and windows with caulk. If you have a fireplace, close the flue damper when it's not in use. Remove window units to prevent drafts. If it isn't possible, cover all sides of the unit. Computers, TV's, Cable Boxes, Laptop chargers, consistently consume energy because of their stand by features. Consider unplugging when not in use. Use the sleep function on computers and office equipment. Switch incandescent light bulbs to LED. LED's burn cooler and save energy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here at Off-Campus Life we get asked a ton of questions so we have compiled this list so that you can be pointed in the right direction.
Q: Help! My roommate backed out/left/broke their lease agreement. Can you help?A: Since lease terms vary by property and location, check your lease carefully before signing any thing. UCO and OCL can not interject on your behalf in situations about leases.
Q: Parking can be hard on campus and I received a ticket. How do I take care of it?A: Parking and Transportation services on the third level of the NUC takes care of UCO issued citations. Some areas of campus are governed by the City of Edmond, so check your ticket to see where you need to go to take care of that.
Q: I need some assistance with personal issues, can you refer me to someone on campus to help?A: Of course! UCO has a wide variety of options to help students out. There is a food pantry on campus that students and staff can use once a week for supplemental food assistance. The Center for Counseling and Well-Being on the fourth floor NUC has someone to talk to about anything, we even have a UCO case worker to help students out of tough spots.
Q: Where is the safest place to live nearby?A: Edmond is a great, safe city. What may be non-negotiable to some, is fine for others so look around and find neighborhoods that feel right to you.
Q: Where is the Bursar? Card Services? Etc..A: You may find yourself lost in the Nigh University Center. Just stop by our office and we can point you in the right direction.

OFF-CAMPUS PARTNERSwww.ucooffcampus.com is our partner website! Check out listings in Edmond and the OKC metro area. Locals and properties can posts listings (with photos!) so you can check out what is closest to campus.
There is a roommate finder that only UCO students are able to use. Post wanted ads or browse to see if you can find a fast friend and roommate for yourself.
ATTENDING OCL EVENTSOCL is more then just off campus housing, every spring semester OCL hosts the Housing Fair. Find information about local and metro housing options plus other vendors and resources.
Keep an eye out for other events by following our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Orgsync Pages.
AFFORDABILITYOklahoma is an affordable place to live, but sometimes it's nice to have roommates to make it even more affordable. Asking friends is the easiest way to find roommates, or you can use our roommate finder online.
Consider like minded people to share your space with. It is encouraged that each roommate drafts and signs a roommate contract. This way no unexpected expectations crop up that can make your living situation tense.
NEIGHBORHOODSOklahoma has several distinct neighborhoods outside of Edmond. Oklahoma City, the capitol of Oklahoma, spreads more then 620 square miles. Luckily, most of these areas are easily accessible from any of the freeways, and take anywhere from 10-30 minutes of driving.
FUTURE TENANTSApartment and house hunting can be exhausting and confusing. If this is your first time searching for either of these type of living arrangements, it can be stressful to know what type of questions to ask,
About the Lease• how much is the rent?• is there a penalty for late
payments?• will the rent ever increase?• who pays for utilities?• am I renting a room or a
whole space?• are there cleaning or
maintenance fees?• can I have animals?
Feeling Safe• will the locks be changed
when I move in?• how do I replace lost keys?• is there a smoke alarm
system?• where is the water main/
breaker box?
Amenities• are appliances included?• is there a private yard?• what common spaces do I
share with other tenants?
MOVING INTO YOUR SPACEMoving takes time, so start as soon as possible, Try to arrange that by the time you move in your utilities are already turned on. How are you going to binge Netflix if you don't have internet or electricity?
Other Things to Consider• changing your address
for your mail and other services.
• photograph the space before moving.
• finding out how trash and recycling works for your unit. Each city recycles different on different days and different items. Check with your city for the best information.
The Office of Off-Campus Life recommends a Roommate Contract be completed anytime a new lease is signed or a lease is renewed. This document is designed to provide its users the opportunity to establish some guidelines related t the details of their living arrangement. Users are encouraged to spend quality time discussing each section, being as forthright and honest with their options as possible.

Required Landlord Disclosures in OklahomaUnder Oklahoma law, landlords must disclose specific information to tenants (usually in the lease or rental agreement), such as the identity of anyone authorized to act on the landlord’s behalf and information about prior flooding.
Oklahoma Security Deposit Limit and ReturnOklahoma state law does not limit how much a landlord can charge for a security deposit. However, it does limit when it must be returned (within 30 days after a tenant moves) and sets other restrictions on deposits.
Small Claims Lawsuits in OklahomaTenants can sue landlords in small claims court for the return of their deposit, up to a dollar amount of $7,500.
Oklahoma Termination and Eviction RulesState laws specify when and how a landlord may terminate a tenancy. For example, a landlord may give
an Oklahoma tenant who has been involved in criminal or drug-related activity an unconditional quit notice. If the tenant does not move out immediately the landlord can file for eviction.
Landlord Access to Rental Property, Tenant Protection Against Retaliation, and Other State Laws in OklahomaSeveral other landlord-tenant laws in Oklahoma affect both property owners and renters, including:
• restrictions on landlord’s right to access rental property (Oklahoma landlords must provide one day’s notice of entry)
• procedures for how landlords must handle abandoned property left behind by tenants, and
• fair housing rights (discrimination is also prohibited by federal and, often, local law—see the Housing Discrimination section of the Nolo site for details).
