CATHOLIC CHURCH AND SCHOOL Saint Pius X parish: www.spxcc.org school: www.stpiusxschoolcc.org Welcome to St. Pius X Parish May 31, 2015 Most Holy Trinity Sunday “To renew all things in Christ” Dear Friends, The past several days have been quite somber for most of us. We have all been affected in some way by the news of the historic flooding in Wimberley and shocked by the tragic disappearance of the McComb, Carey, and Charba family members. For those of you who have personally known them, the tragedy has hit far too close to home. It is truly heartbreaking. These kinds of distressing occurrences easily cause us to wonder why God allows such awful things to befall such good people and innocent children. There is of course, no easy answer. The truth is, such questions have been asked for generations upon generations. Why do such senseless things have to happen? No one really knows. What we do know, though, is that the meaning to the mystery lies in the heart of God. We believe that somehow, God understands the purpose behind every occurrence, including human suffering and pain, and that he will always bring good from it. When we look to Scripture and to the history of salvation, we can find some consolation and even some hope in the midst of tragedy even if we don’t fully understand the meaning. All we have to do is enter into the mystery of the Holy Trinity and maybe begin to scratch at the surface of understanding the “why”. This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Liturgy invites us to contemplate the fact that God has revealed himself as a Trinity. He is One God but three distinct persons. This in itself is a baffling mystery. How can there be three persons in One God? There is no way we will ever come close to understanding this. We must simply accept on faith what the Lord has revealed to us. Based upon this belief, we know that God the Father, the first person of the Holy Trinity, created the world and all that is within it. We also know, that he created all living things, and that at the crowning of his creation he made human beings. He created us in grace and blessedness. We were given free will, but unfortunately, we abused that gift of blessedness by our disobedience. This fall from grace left the world in disorder and our first parents lost the harmony and communion with God they once had. The result was chaos, suffering and death. In his love, though, God immediately set upon the task of restoring what was lost. In his eternal plan, he sent his Son Jesus, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. His Son became one of us and innocently suffered for our sins at the hands of Pilate. If we question why good people have to suffer, we know that all we have to do is look to Jesus. He knows exactly what we undergo, because he experienced it himself. He was condemned to death despite his innocence. He was cruelly treated and suffered and died. Yet, because of his death, he knows exactly what we are going through in this current time of distress. He has been there. If we need meaning, then, all we need to do is look to him. His death was senseless, but it ultimately opened the door to eternity. The Triune God is intimately united to our suffering. He is right there with us. Even though we don’t fully comprehend, God the Holy Spirit, the Third person of the Holy Trinity, comes to us and brings comfort and help. The Holy Spirit urges us on in faith and trust that all will work out in the end, and that what awaits us is sublime. The Spirit gives us hope and assures us that all things are under God’s dominion and control. As we celebrate this Trinity Sunday, let us certainly keep in our prayers all those who have suffered the devastation as a result of the flooding. As we suffer along with the family and relatives of the missing, and deceased, let us realize that More Than 50 Years of Faith!

ist” Dear Friends,

The past several days have been quite somber for most of us.

As we suffer along with the family and relatives of the missing, and deceased, let us realize that

Our Triune God is right in the midst of all of our joys and all of our tragedies. The Blessed Trinity is right there with us equipping us for all good gifts that are needed in this time of sorrow. We know that the Blessed Trinity is causing tremendous good to flow out from the generosity, love, support, and care of all the many people who have assisted the families of those who are missing, and those who have lost homes and property. Let us continue to allow the divine life of the Trinity to live within us as we tend in charity to those in need. God bless,

Welcome New Parishioners! Please welcome Cliff & Sue Hess, Amy

Paul for the lovely Memorial Mass and rosary services, Msgr. Shirley for the wonderful and touching homily, Mike Conley and the Schola for the beautiful music, the St. Pius X Men’s Club for the marvelous dinner after the service, as well as the lawn care at our home and all the women who brought the desserts for the dinner. Building a Culture of VocationsWhat kinds of people become priests,

sisters or brothers? Are they people who don’t relate well with other people? No. They are people who love others, people who find real satisfaction chatting with a 93 year old parishioner, holding the hand of a cancer patient, listening to the troubles of a streetwise teen. They are people with the courage to touch lives, hearts and souls in a high-tech, unchurched world. Are you that kind of person?

Fortnight for Freedom - Freedom to Bear WitnessNever has religious freedom been more threatened in our nation and in our

world. Christians, as well as those of other faiths, are suffering persecution in ever greater numbers abroad, and at home, various legislations are impinging upon our Christian beliefs about marriage, and issues surrounding life. We urge you to join us in observing Fortnight for Freedom from June 21st - July 4th as we pray for the fundamental right to religious liberty. This year, we focus on the connection between religious liberty in the United States and our freedom to bear witness to the Gospel in our daily lives. We will be observing the following events here at St. Pius X:

June 21: Prayer at all Masses to begin the Fortnight June 25: All-day Adoration from 8:45 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.June 26: Movie Night - Youth CenterJuly 4: Mass at 8:15 a.m. to close the FortnightPlease take some time to pray for the free practice of faith every day

Another school year completed! The last week of school was exciting and fast paced. We came back from a 3-day weekend, to four days filled with award ceremonies, graduations and end-of-school parties.

On Thursday, our 6th graders and K-5 students graduated, and the K-3 and K-4 classes had their awards ceremonies following the 8:15 a.m. Mass. For the 6th graders, it was their final day of their elementary school days. Most of them have attended St. Pius since Kindergarten or earlier. Joe Aidan Harney started here when he was 3 years old, Simon Fritz and Ayden Smith since they were 4 years old and Hannah Cazalas, Grace Morrison and Adam Villarreal since they were 5 years old. They all received a plaque that read, “Once a Blue Jay Always a Blue Jay.” After the awards ceremony, the students attended a reception in the Youth Center where they enjoyed refreshments and watched a video about their days at St. Pius X School. It was a fun, but emotional, day for them. We will miss these students next year as they enter into a new phase of their lives, middle school.

The K-5 students had their graduation ceremony with the K-3 and K-4 classes after the 6th grade graduation. Watching these students in graduation gowns and hats stroll down the aisle was a sight to see! Using eye contact, a firm handshake with the correct hand, and saying “thank-you” paid off as they received their awards in front of their parents. In twelve short years these same students will go through the same motions again as high school graduates. I remember as if it was yesterday, my daughter, Kelsey, graduating from Kindergarten and now a High School graduate as of last night. Pretty emotional time for old Dad!

On Friday, our 1st through 5th grade students attended their Mass and awards ceremonies. At the end of the ceremony, the top student from each class was presented with the Principal’s Award for having the highest overall average for the year. Congratulations go to Lillian Morrison (1st Grade), Anika Smith (2nd Grade), Caitlin Tatsch (3rd Grade), Elizabeth Arnolds (4th Grade), Kyler Ross (5th Grade) and Mary Arnolds (6th Grade). There were many students who were awarded A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll for the year, Perfect Attendance for the year, highest average in core subjects, and many participation awards.

St. Pius X Catholic School is, by far, one of the best Catholic schools in Corpus Christi, not only because of its strong academics and spiritual environment, but also because of its bright students, fabulous teachers and supportive and involved parents. I am truly blessed to be the Principal of this school and I am a much better person because of it. I also thank our parishioners who have been so supportive of the school. The support of the whole St. Pius X church community is vital to our school’s success.

May God continue to bless each and every one of you and I hope you have a fun, restful and safe summer. See you in August!

From the St. Pius X Irish Leprechauns to the St. Pius X Parishioners and friends: It gives us great

pleasure to announce the total amount of revenue raised at our Irish Festival. This includes:

Funds for the Irish Festival & Brunch, and funds donated for the

Figurines for the Christmas Nativity. A total of: $10,056.00

In the twenty years we have enjoyed producing the Irish Festival and Brunch this one was certainly the high point centering on the generosity of people who volunteered their time, funds, items donated to use during our Festival and

objects for our sale. We are looking forward to next year and hope you will all join us again for another exciting day with great Irish food, the Gravel Walk Band,

and talented Irish dancers. We are also going to present something new but for now …It’s a surprise … See you then!
