Welcome to St. Louis Cathedral....

On behalf of our Archbishop, Most Rev. Gregory M. Aymond, our parishioners, deacons, and priests, I welcome you to St. Louis Cathedral and hope that your visit will be a memorable one. January 7, 2018, Archbishop Aymond celebrated Mass, opening the Tricentennial Celebration of the City of New Orleans and recognizing the presence of the Catholic Church here in this location since the city’s founding. You join visitors from across the United States and around the world who have worshipped with us for 300 years. I invite you to consider the Cathedral your parish away from home. It is my prayer that your time here will be a spiritually uplifting experience. I appreciate your generosity in the support of our Cathedral. It is with your help that we are able to maintain its beautiful state, that we may continue to worship God within these walls as has been done since 1718. May God enrich you with many graces and blessings.

Fifth Sunday of Easter

LIVING BRANCHES

The Gospel and second reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter emphasize the need for us to remain in Christ, and he in us. This shared life finds expression in the image of the one vine and many branches. We become living branches of the vine, members of the Body of Christ through Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, sacraments of sharing God’s own life. The First Letter of John describes the fruit of this vine as active love of neighbor: “And his commandment is this: we should believe . . . and love one another” (1 John 3:23).

Our first reading from Acts shows us an example of someone who shares in Christ’s life in the person of Saint Paul. Paul’s fearless witness, even at the risk of his life, is proof to everyone that the risen Lord’s Spirit truly fills him with life and is bearing fruit in him.

In addition to alumni who hail from this archdiocese, Catholic University claims one third of the U.S. bishops and 12,000 priests and religious as alumni. In Washington, D.C., the University provides an education based in the Catholic intellectual tradition to almost 7,000 students through its 12 schools. POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION FOR APRIL

For those who have Responsibility in Economic Matters That economists may have the courage to reject any economy of exclusion and know how to open new paths. APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

April was first declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by presidential proclamation in 1983. Since then, April has been a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse.

A PRAYER FOR HEALING VICTIMS OF ABUSE

God of endless love, ever caring, ever strong, always present, always just: You gave your only Son to save us by his blood on the cross.

Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace, join to your own suffering the pain of all who have been hurt in body, mind, and spirit

by those who betrayed the trust placed in them. Hear the cries of our brothers and sisters who have been gravely harmed,

and the cries of those who love them. Soothe their restless hearts with hope, steady their shaken spirits with faith.

Grant them justice for their cause, enlightened by your truth. Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds

and transform brokenness into wholeness. Grant us the courage and wisdom, humility and grace, to act with justice.

Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors. Grant that all harmed by abuse may find peace in justice.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
