  • Welcome to St. Louis Cathedral....

On behalf of our Archbishop, Most Rev. Gregory M. Aymond, our parishioners, deacons, and priests, I welcome you to St. Louis Cathedral and hope that your visit will be a memorable one. January 7, 2018, Archbishop Aymond celebrated Mass, opening the Tricentennial Celebration of the City of New Orleans and recognizing the presence of the Catholic Church here in this location since the city’s founding. You join visitors from across the United States and around the world who have worshipped with us for 300 years. I invite you to consider the Cathedral your parish away from home. It is my prayer that your time here will be a spiritually uplifting experience. I appreciate your generosity in the support of our Cathedral. It is with your help that we are able to maintain its beautiful state, that we may continue to worship God within these walls as has been done since 1718. May God enrich you with many graces and blessings.

    JOHN THE BAPTIST

Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the Church has the opportunity for a more intense celebration of the birth of John the Baptist, who is often described as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the bridge between Judaism and Christianity. More commonly, John is known as the “precursor” of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report John’s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near at hand. One greater than I is coming.

Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John’s legacy is one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: “You are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I show my glory” (Isaiah 49:3). John’s humility, “I am not he”, was surpassed only by that of his Lord Jesus, the humble servant who followed.

    PRAYER FOR SAFETY DURING

    HURRICANE SEASON

God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children.

The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude.

You are still the Master of land and sea.

We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant,

can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries,

invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid

and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time.

O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you

to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area

and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son

to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.

HOME MISSION COLLECTION PONTIFICAL MISSION SOCIETY

The second collection taken at all Masses next weekend will be the annual collection for the Home Missions of the Pontifical Mission Society of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This year we welcome an appeal on behalf of the Carmelite Missions. Your generosity as always is greatly appreciated.

    PERMANENT DIACONATE ORDINATION

Congratulations are extended to the 22 men who were ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on Saturday morning here at the Cathedral by Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond. Please keep these gentlemen in your prayers as they begin their new ministry in assigned parishes throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

to plead with your Son on our behalf,
