PARISH INFORMATION Second Sunday of Advent PREPARE THE WAY Saint John the Baptist appears on the scene today as Advent enters its second week. The mysterious consumer of locusts and wild honey, John echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah as he calls for repentance in the face of the nearness of the kingdom of heaven. The rhythms of the Christian life are often confounding. Each year we meet the Baptist and hear his calls for repentance. Each year we see him pointing to the one who is coming after him, the Lord Jesus. Yet each year the words and actions of John the Baptist echo anew in our hearts, because we have fallen into old sinful traps again and again. Advent gives us the opportunity once again to turn away from our sinful ways and embrace the gospel way of life. Segundo Domingo de Adviento PREPARA EL CAMINO San Juan Bautista aparece hoy cuando el Adviento comienza su segunda semana. Juan, el misterioso consumidor de saltamontes y miel silvestre, hace eco de las palabras del profeta Isaías en su llamado al arrepentimiento en la cercanía del Reino de los cielos. Los ritmos de la vida cristiana son muchas veces confusos. Todos los años conocemos a Juan Bautista y oímos su llamado al arrepentimiento. Todos los años lo vemos señalando al que vendrá después de él, al Señor Jesús. Sin embargo, cada año las palabras y

las acciones de Juan Bautista hacen eco de nuevo en nuestro corazón, porque hemos caído una y otra vez en antiguas trampas pecaminosas. El Adviento nos da otra oportunidad para alejarnos

PARISH LIFE ADVENT PENITENTIAL RITE SERVICE

As we start a new Liturgical Year with the onset of the Advent Season, let us start the year right by reconciling with God. Our Advent Peniten al Rite Service will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. The Sacrament of Reconcilia on (or Confession) is an important Sacrament to Dominic Savio. At an early age of 7, before he received his First Holy Communion, one of his promises was, “I will go to Confession and Communion as o en as my confessor will allow.” “Praise the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy endures forever.” (Psalms 136:1 NABRE)

SIMBANG GABI This year’s theme is, “Jesus, make us generous dispensers of Your Divine Mercy.”

Simbang Gabi is a Filipino tradi on brought to the Philippine faithful by the Spanish Friars from Mexico in the 16th Century. According to tradi on, Simbang Gabi or Mass at Dawn is a nine-day novena to the Blessed Mother. The novena begins on December 16 as early as 4 in the morning and culminates with the “Misa de Gallo” on Christmas Eve. (Source: The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila).

We have been fortunate to have Simbang Gabi as one of the tradi ons being prac ced in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, par cularly in our San Pedro Pastoral Region. Every year, churches in our region are assigned each of the nine days to celebrate the Simbang Gabi. This year, our church has been chosen to celebrate the Simbang Gabi on the first of the nine days, December 16, 2016. All are welcome to the Mass at 7:00 p.m. Then a er the Mass, there will be a li le recep on at the Parish Hall.

It does not ma er if one completes the novena; what really ma ers is what is inside the heart. The blessing does not depend on the number of Masses a ended; but what is important is the disposi on of the person who receives the Lord’s blessing. (Source: RC Archdiocese of Manila).

Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for OUR needs. We pray for them in THEIR needs.

We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them aside, anointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood.

Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as are we, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we. Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith.

We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread.

We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours. Amen.

El Grupo de Oración invita a Su Posada, 20 de diciembre a las 7 p.m. Las posadas son del 16 al 24 de diciembre, nueve días antes de la Navidad. Generalmente los anfitriones se preparan con figuras que representan a José y a María buscando en dónde nacerá su Hijo, con hojas con los cantos para pedir posada, las oraciones necesarias y villancicos, para que todos puedan participar. Como es una fiesta de origen religioso, para celebrar un acontecimiento religioso, es pues lógico pensar que en ellas no puede faltar la oración, la lectura bíblica y la reflexión, además de los cantos y la alegría que nos ayudan a vivir mejor estas fiestas.

Se acostumbra iniciar con el rezo del Rosario, intercalando los cantos para "pedir posada" entre cada misterio, así como villancicos, mientras los asistentes van caminando de una puerta a otra; se termina con la lectura correspondiente a ese día de la novena de Navidad y por último con la fiesta, para celebrar y compartir. The Posadas are from December 16 to 24, nine days before Christmas. Generally the hosts are prepared with figures representing Joseph and Mary looking for where their Son will be born, with copies of the songs to ask for lodging, the necessary prayers and carols, so that all can participate. As it is a celebration of religious origin, to celebrate a religious event, it is logical to think that they cannot miss prayer, biblical reading and reflection, as well as the songs and the joy that help us to live better these holidays.

It is customary to begin with the prayer of the Rosary, interspersing the songs to "ask for lodging" between each mystery, as well as carols, while the assistants are walking from one door to another; It concludes with the reading corresponding to that day of the Novena of Christmas and finally with a reception, to celebrate and to share.

In the midst of the crowds, children can easily become separated from their parents. Be alert in crowds and maintain awareness of what others around you are doing. Also, it is important to give your child your cell phone number so mall security can contact you quickly if needed.
