Message from Fr. Timothy Last Sunday of Advent Sunday, December 22 - the 4th and last Sunday of Advent. While the irst pages of Scripture (the Old Testament) begin with the Genesis account of the crea-tion of the universe, the New Testament begins with the story we read today of the new creation through the coming of the Savior. God is united to man. Mary’s son is truly and completely God and truly and completely man. He is Emmanuel – “God with us”. Other celebrations this week: Wednesday, December 25 – Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord. Holy day of obligation. The Christmas season runs from Christmas eve at about sunset until the feast of the Baptism of the Lord (this year January 12th). Thursday, December 26 – Feast of St. Stephen, protomar-tyr. An account of his martyrdom can be read in the Acts of the Apostles, chapter 6. Friday, December 27 – Feast of St. John, apostle and evan-gelist. Son of Zebedee and brother of the apostle James, St. John was probably the youngest of all the apostles and lived to an old age. The 4th gospel account as well as 3 letters and the book of Revelation in the New Testament are all attributed to him. Saturday, December 28 – Feast of the Holy Innocents, martyrs. In Matthew, chapter 2 we read of the massacre of the innocent infants who bore witness to the blood of Jesus which cleanses us from sin. Fr. Timothy

Padre Timothy

“God's love is generous, sacrificial, life-giving, and forev-er. As humans made in God's image, we are called to imitate the eternal giving and receiving of love that is the Holy Trinity.” ~USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities~

    Primer viernes - 8:30 AM - 9 :00 PM

In today’s Gospel, we hear that Jesus will be named Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” The mys-tery of the birth of Jesus is supremely a mystery of love. May each Christmas find us more and more like him: more humble, more holy, more happy and more full of God.

Your gifts to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul helped those who are poor and suffering to find Emmanuel, and they also came to know that “God is with us.”

Is God calling you to spend some time listening to peo-ple in our community who are in need? Please leave a message for Dalila at 630-236-1285. Visit our website at http://www.ourladyofgoodcounsel.net/ministry/the-society-of-st-vincent-de-paul/ or come to one of our meetings in the St. Francis Center's Charity Room on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7 PM.

This Advent spend some time with the Lord.

Every Thursday from 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM

    First Friday - from 8:30 AM - 9:00 PM

Borrow this Book from the Library Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati: An Ordinary Christian

Athletic, handsome, and always good for a laugh, Pier Giorgio was the charismatic leader of a band of rowdy friends. He smoked, pulled pranks, relished extreme sports, fiercely debated politics into the night and secretly gave away his wealth to help the poor and plunged eagerly into intense experiences of Eucharistic prayer. In this inspiring biography author, Maria Di Lo-renzo captures Frassati's spirit by exploring his adven-turesome personality and the forthright love of a man who succeeded in wrestling holiness from every day life. A typical young man, he grew up as many young people do today, in an atmosphere strained by a difficult rela-tionship between his parents, who live “separated under one roof.” But those who knew him paint a portrait of an honest and strong young man alive with joy, generous of heart, and full of faith.
