The accumula-tion of wealth will not provide the happiness that only Christ can give. Ensuring a preferential option for the poor is one way of giving back to God because everything we have in this life is a gift from God.

As our Increased Offertory Appeal campaign continues, many of our parishioners have already indicated their willingness to increase their weekly offerings, making their gift from its substance and not merely one of convenience or from its surplus. When our parish began this Increased Offertory Appeal campaign we recognized that participation would be based upon on equal sacrifice, not equal giving. We cannot ask everyone to consider the same level of church support, but we ask that everyone let their offering reflect how gener-ous God has been to them with His gifts. Please remember to use your special commitment card to indicate your response to our Increased Offertory Appeal campaign. If you did not receive a mailing, please contact the parish office.

DCYC - This year DCYC will be held on Jan 29th thru Jan 31st. We have begun planning our fundraising and organizing event for our group to get to know each other. October 17th or 18th is Mass Attendance weekend. All RE children & youth are expected to attend mass with their family. They will put their mass at-tendance envelope in the basket during offertory. Envelopes will be passed out this week in class. If you do not pick up your envelope, they will be in the narthex on the counter by class days. Please remember that classes WILL MEET on Mass Attendance weekends. If you have any questions please contact the RE Office.

RE Volunteer Commissioning - Next weekend, Oct. 17th or 18th, at all the Masses our Parish Religious Education Volunteers will be blessed and commissioned. Please keep all our volunteers, their families and their students in your prayers. We are very grateful for the selfless giving of our volunteers. They graciously share their gifts, talents and our faith with the children and youth of our parish. Their stewardship is what makes our Parish Religious Education Program a success!!

Adult Faith Sacramental Sessions will be offered on: Thursday: Oct. 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5, 12, 19, 2015. These sessions run from 7:00-8:30 pm for 8 weeks. These sessions will prepare any Adult 18 years [who is out of HS] and or older to celebrate the Sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation or both. Bingo Report (10/04/15) - A nice crowd of 82 players enjoyed this past Sunday’s bingo where our players took home $1936. The bingo games earned $414.75 and concessions another $206.75 totaling $621.50 in all bingo income.

Marcel Gamboa, and Leonard Vigil.The concessions were headed up by Joe Medina and assisted by Luis

Gonzalez, Deacon Rey Garza, Cesar Galvez, Reyna Garza, and Eva Ginn. Thanks to Tina Medina and the other K/C wives for providing the deli-cious desserts.

St. John Paul II Homeschoolers meet every Monday at St Anthony’s in Kyle. The gathering begins with Mass at 12:15. We have lunch with Fr. Jason every week and he presents a monthly lesson. There is a service project, an activity and play time for the children who break into two age groups (2-4) and (5-13.) We end with praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2:30. This year’s theme is “Come Holy Spirit.” All homeschoolers are welcome! Our first gathering is 9/14/15 - Fr Jason will give us a blessing. Call Joanna Mancini for more information at 512-569-6963. News from the Principal’s DeskThis past week was spent in testing and we are all glad that it is

over! We still will have some make-up tests to take care of this next week, but for the majority of our students, it is finished for another year. When the test results come in at the end of October, the teachers and I will begin to look at the data to determine how we are going to strengthen instruction to better serve our students.

This coming Friday, Oct. 9th, is our Fall Break for students and staff. Then on Monday, Columbus Day, the students are still off, but the teachers and I will be traveling to the Mayborn Convention Center in Temple, TX for our Annual Diocesan Teacher Institute. The topic for this year’s workshop is formative assessment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Education Building dedication last Sunday. It was wonderful to have Bishop Vasquez celebrate Mass and bless our new addition. Thank you to those who baked delicious cakes, cookies, and cupcakes for our refreshments af-terwards, and thank you to all who set up, served, and cleaned up, too!

Noticias del Escritorio de la Directora¡Esta última semana la pasamos en exámenes y estamos todos contentos

de que ya terminamos (por ahora)! Todavía tenemos algunos exámenes extraordinarios para esta próxima semana, pero para la mayoría de nuestros estudiantes, se terminan hasta el próximo año. Cuando los resultados del examen lleguen a fines de octubre, los maestros y yo comenzaremos a revisar los datos para determinar cómo vamos a fortalecer la enseñanza para mejor servir a nuestros estudiantes.

Este próximo viernes, 9 de octubre, es un día de descanso en el otoño para los estudiantes y el personal. Luego el lunes, Día de la Raza, los estudiantes todavía estarán fuera, pero los maestros van a viajar al centro de convenciones de Mayborn en Temple, Texas para nuestro Instituto Diocesano anual de Maestros. El tema para el taller de este año es la evaluación formativa.

Gracias a todos los que se unieron a nosotros para nuestra dedicación del edi-ficio de educación el domingo pasado. Fue maravilloso tener al Obispo Vásquez celebrando la Santa Misa y bendiciendo nuestra nueva adición. ¡Gracias a aquellos que trajeron pasteles, galletas y mantecados para deleitar a los asistentes después y gracias a todos que, sirvieron y limpiaron al terminar la celebración!
