The area around Tsurukawa Station was once an abundant place where nature and human activities coexisted in the nature of the Tama Hills. Even now, the features remain everywhere.“Kagoyama-en”, located in front of the station, is a long-established residence of Shoin style, with a wonderful Japanese garden. There are three other old private houses with thatched roof, “Buaiso” where Jiro Shirasu and Masako Shirasu lived, “Minnano Kominka” owned by locally noted Ishikawa family, and “Kakian” owned by Suzuki-Koumuten. Now, in order to let you find the attractiveness of Tsurukawa area, the campaign for ”Welcome to Tsurukawa OMOTENASHI” has just started. As a kick-off event, “Welcome! Tsurukawa OMOTENASHI Festival” will be held from October 4th to 6th. Please come and touch the charm of Tsurukawa!

Enjoy drinking Japanese Sake while watching the Kanai's lion dance which has been preserved from the Edo period and listening jazz performances in fantastic atmosphere.

The house is located in a residential area and it is about 150 years old.Currently, it is used as a rental space. Since the landlord burns the firewood in the kitchen stove “Kamado” every day, it is fragrant in the house.

This is the house that was inherited from generation to generation and it is 150 years old. The head of the generation was the master carpenter of "Zuikoden", a Shoin style building in Kagoyama-en. The current owner is an architect and the house is used for studying comfortable living in an old private house.

This is the house where Jiro Shirasu and Masako Shirasu moved in 1943. The name comes from the fact that it is "located at the border between Musashi and Sagami" and the word "unfriendly" in Japanese. The house is open to the public as the museum “Old Shirasu Residence / Buaiso”.

There remains Shoin style old house “Zuikoden” which was built by the locally noted Kamikura family in 1890 and the garden with a pond. Machida City is now planning to utilize the house. This time the house is temporarily opened to the citizens and it must be a good opportunity to look into the premises.
