Attendance Policy

In order for your child to succeed in second grade he/she must be present.

•PLEASE make sure that your child is in school daily. When children miss a few days of school, they get behind in the class, become confused and often lose the motivation to excel. We want to make sure that all students are getting the education they deserve. •If your child is going to be late, please contact the office so we know to expect

them. •School begins at 8:15 a.m. and your child will begin morning work promptly. We don’t want to distract the other second graders from their learning, so please make sure that your child is here and on time so they are ready for a great learning day!

ABT Elementary Rules

Since my goal as well as that of ABT Elementary is to create a safe, academic, positive learning environment, it is crucial that we understand the behavior guidelines. Please go over these with your child as we will do in the class during the first two weeks of school. Each student must:

*Be responsible*Be respectful*Be safe*Be trustworthy*Do your personal best*Be honest

These guidelines are to help your child make good choices about their behavior so they are successful in their learning.

Classroom Rules

Here are some guidelines that we follow at ABT Elementary. Please go over these with your child BEFORE school. We will go over these rules as well as make our own for our class. They should be aware of the rules they are going to follow:

•Raise your hand to speak or if you need to get out of your seat.•Keep hands and feet to yourself.•Follow the directions the first time they are given.•Be kind and be respectful.•Use appropriate language.

The classroom teacher determines the length of In-School Suspension. Behavior Party

In order to maximize learning, students are encouraged to be on their best behavior daily. We use a card system and a behavior ladder to ensure that parents and students are aware of the child’s daily behavior. Every month our class has a party celebrating the student’s monthly behavior.

Our parties are usually held on the last Thursday or Friday of every calendar month. Rewards will be given to students according to their behavior that month. Students who do not behave for the majority of the month will not receive any rewards. They may also be excluded from the activities during the behavior party. Please send treats with your child for the behavior party. Be sure to send treats enough for 30 students.

Communication

Education is a partnership between home and school. I value parent involvement at every level and encourage you to partner with me. In order for this partnership to be effective, we need to be able to communicate.

Please feel free to call, write a note, or e-mail me if you have concerns or questions about your child’s education. I am always available to schedule a conference to discuss any issue or concern you have regarding your child.

I speak Arabic and English. Our school also has Spanish speaking staff members in case you may need a translator.
