Welcome to Mickley HallA guide to the home for residents and families

Moving into a shared home can seem like a step into the unknown. You might worry you’ll be unable to do the things that matter to you.

But in a Leonard Cheshire home we want you to be yourself. We understand you’re an individual with your own lifestyle and our team will always respect that.

When you join us we’ll ask what you want out of life, and how best we can support you. Then we regularly check how you are and whether you want to change anything.

Our aim is to help you make choices, not make choices for you. Above all we want you to get the most out of life and enjoy living here.

Your support, your wayA warm welcome to Mickley Hall

Hello!

We provide support and nursing care for physically disabled adults in a friendly and safe home. Our team is fully trained and we’re regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

You’ll find us in a peaceful suburban area of Totley, in Sheffield. Totley is just minutes away from the Peak District, famous for its beautiful

landscapes and wildlife. The home is close to a range of amenities including pubs, shops, a restaurant and a bakery. There are also plenty of places to visit nearby including the Peak District National Park, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK.

Mickley Hall is a Victorian two storey home with 40 bedrooms and extensive grounds. There’s always room for you to welcome your family and friends or get together with other residents.

Dining choicesWe make sure mealtimes can be enjoyed by everyone. Our menus are planned by our residents and staff, and special diets are always catered for by our chef.

Facilities for you Enjoy activities

The home offers a range of activities for residents, including gardening, photography and computing. We also organise regular bowling and ice skating trips, as well as visits to the cinema, theatres, pubs, restaurants, museums and art exhibitions. We have accessible transport available for day trips out. You’ll have the chance to be social, get creative or enjoy exercise – you choose.

Group activities aren’t for everyone and you might just want to do things on your own. If so, we can help. If you need support, one option is to find a volunteer to come along with you.

Whatever activities you’d like to do, you can always talk to one of our team about the different choices available to you.

Our facilities include:

• 40 bedrooms

• two conservatories

• activities room

• landscaped gardens with a pond and teahouse

Because we’re a charity we can offer more

With over 100 homes in the UK, we provide thousands of disabled people with housing and quality care. Our founder Leonard Cheshire started the charity in 1948 and since then we’ve always worked with disabled people to improve the support we offer. You can trust us to know what we are doing.

Added valueAs a charity we fundraise to top up the basic level of support that local councils provide. The money we raise makes a big difference to residents in our homes. It helps us provide things like physiotherapy, transport and social events – things that help our residents get more out of life.

John’s story

My name is John and I’ve lived at Mickley Hall for twelve years. The staff here are really nice and friendly. I feel like I can go where I want.

I’ve always been interested in cameras. I make birthday cards here for everybody using the photos I’ve taken. I enjoy every

minute of it. I also really like gardening. I’ve got some tubs in the garden for wild flowers and tomatoes and cucumbers, and this year we’re going to the Chatsworth Flower Show.
