Night!

About Me- Teaching in East Penn for 10 years- Taught 5th, 1st, and Kindergarten- BA in Elementary Ed and Humann Development from Boston College - Masters in K-12 Technology from DeSales University- Continuous education work through Wilkes- Live in Bethlehem with my husband, my daughter Makenzy, and my son Gavin

Our Day- Unpack and welcome center- Opening exercises (announcements, calendar, etc)- LA - Math- Snack/Bathroom- Daily 5- Kid Writing-to come later in the year- Specialist-art, gym, library, music- WIN-to come later in the year- Pack up

Language Arts- Letter identification- Letter-sound correspondence- Rhyming and rhyming application- Sound isolation- Pre-reading skills and reading skills- Kid writing

- Zaner-Bloser letter formation

Sight Words/Little Readers- Sight Words: flash cards to practice during the year

- No need to cut them all out at the same time (move at your child’s pace)- Practice often with your child- Homenote will inform which words we are working on in school

- Little Readers: small books to practice at home- Send back to school with a parent’s initials

- Keep at home

Handwriting- Watch your child as he/she is forming letters and holding a pencil

- letters are formed from the top- please reinforce this at home

- Students will use handwriting lines from the beginning of the year- though it may be difficult at first (as fine motor skills are still developing), it is important for them to know what they are working towards

- Terms sky, grass, and dirt are used to describe the different sections of handwriting lines

- See the Zaner Bloser Handwriting Handout that provides directions for proper writing formation

Math- Shapes & colors- Number identification- Counting to 100- 1-to-1 correspondence- Patterns & sorting- Place Value- Measurement- Addition- Subtraction

Homework/HomenoteHomework:- Homework will be sent home most Mondays-Thursdays- May be written homework or work done verbally with a grown up- A great way to keep up with what we are doing in school and to reinforce skills we have completed within the classroom

Homenote:- Sent home every week- Describes the homework, upcoming activities, and reminders

Behavior - Mrs. Ringer: Behavior chart where the kids put a dot on for good behavior (can be from bus driver, other teachers, etc)

- Clip Chart: Wonderful-PurpleGreat-BlueReady to Learn- GreenMake Better Choices-OrangeNote Home- Red

-Verbal warnings will be given-Remember that we are all learning rules in school

Snack- Should be small- No Peanuts or Tree nuts- No juice boxes/milk- you may bring in

a water bottle or we have a water fountain in the classroom

Birthdays- Non-edible due to Shoemaker’s policy- We sing/card and pencil/birthday cape- Invitations:

- Whole class or all boys/girls- Class directory

Reminders- Written Excuse note needed for absences

- send in within 3 days of absence- any type of day trip, extended vacation, etc. needs a trip request form filled out in advance (this is found on EPSD website)

- Current email address and information- enewsletter will be used often- Sign Up Genius: conferences

- Shoemaker website/PTO website- sign up for email blasts from both

- Student Accident Insurance Brochure can be found on my website and the EPSD website

OtherMrs. Brinckman:- Use crosswalks in drop-off and pick up- Drop off in the morning should NOT be before 8:45 am due to supervision purposes. - Parents are REQUIRED to send in a note for early pick-up. If there is an emergency and a student needs to be picked up early please call the office by 2:45 at the latest.- Parent pick up will be at 3:15 which is prior to bus dismissal. Mrs. Ringer and/or Mrs. Beitler will greet them in the vestibule each afternoon and dismiss their child(ren) directly to them.

Nurse: - If your child is sick with a fever they can return to school after being fever free without medicine for 24 hours. - If your child is vomiting they can return to school after 12 hours of not getting sick.- Peanut/Tree Nut free

Scholastic- Online orders only

- Browse a variety of books at different levels

- Flyers will be sent home occasionally- I will email and let you know when a new order is available to browse

- Our classroom can earn a free book for each online order ☺

Star Of The Week- All information will come home the Friday prior to your child’s week

- Poster- Fluffy- classroom pet they will come home- Notebook- record memories of your time with Fluffy

My Website- Games- Storytown link and Mega Math- Handwriting paper- Scholastic book orders- E Newsletter- Star of the week schedule

Clearances/Final Thoughts Clearances:

- Mystery Reader for 1 time only - may be permitted in the building as a visitor (no affidavit required) - - Mystery Reader more than 1 time/Field Trips/Classroom Celebrations - will need clearances
