* Opening Hymn of Praise: LUYH #191:1-4 “Praise the Savior, Now and Ever”

1. Praise the Savior, now and ever; praise him, all beneath the skies; self denying, suffering, dying, on the cross a sacrifice. Victory gaining, life obtaining, now in glory he doth rise!

2. Our work faileth, Christ’s availeth; he is all our righteousness. He, our Savior, has forever set us free from dire distress. Through his merit we inherit light and peace and happiness.

3. Sin’s bonds severed, we’re delivered; Christ has crushed the serpent’s head. Death no longer is the stronger; hell itself is captive led. Christ has risen from death’s prison; o’er the tomb he light has shed.

4. For his favor, praise forever unto God the Father sing. Praise the Savior, praise him ever, Son of God, our Lord and King. Praise the Spirit; through Christ’s merit he doth us salvation bring. Words: Venantius Honorius Fortunatus, 569; tr. Augustus Nelson (1863-1949), alt., P.D.;

Music: Then Swenska Psalm-Boken, 1697, P.D.; CCLI #678905

* God’s Greeting/We Greet Each Other

* Opening Songs of Worship

Read Psalm 66:1-3a 1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth!

2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!

3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds!

“Glorious Day”

1. One day when Heaven was filled with His praises, One day when sin was as black as could be, Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin, dwelt among men. My example is He. The Word became flesh and the light shined among us, His glory revealed.

Chorus Living, He loved me. Dying, He saved me. Buried, He carried my sins far away. Rising, He justified freely forever. One day He’s coming; Oh, glorious day,

Oh, glorious day.

2. One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain. One day they nailed Him to die on a tree. Suffering anguish, despised and rejected, bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He. The hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree and took the nails for me.

Chorus

3. One day the grave could conceal Him no longer. One day the stone rolled away from the door. Then He arose; over death He had conquered. Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore. Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him, from rising again.

Chorus Living, He loved me. Dying, He saved me. Buried, He carried my sins far away. Rising, He justified freely forever. One day He’s coming; Oh, glorious day, Oh, glorious day, glorious day.

Bridge

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming. One day the skies with His glory will shine. Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing. My Savior, Jesus is mine.

Final Chorus Living, He loved me. Dying, He saved me. Buried, He carried my sins far away. Rising, He justified freely forever. One day He’s coming; Oh, glorious day,

Oh, glorious day, glorious day, oh, glorious day. “Glorious Day”, Words & Music by Mark Hall & Michael Bleaker; © 2009 Zoo Music, My Refuge Music, Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Word Music; All rights Reserved. Used by permission. CCLI # 678905

"Sing Praise to the Lord, You People of Grace" LUYH #7:1-4

1. Sing praise to the Lord, you people of grace; fill heaven with the songs that sound from this place; since you are God’s servants and meet in his name, his wonders declare and his glory proclaim.

Refrain Halle! Hallelujah! Halle! Halle! Hallelujah! Halle! Hallelujah! Halle! Halle! Hallelujah!

2. His greatness exceeds what words can explain, and his is the power no force can restrain; with fanfares of horns and crescendos of strings raise anthems to honor the King of all kings.

Refrain

3. Where music is made, let rhythms abound: let cymbals and drums add weight to the sound; with dance that is graceful and words that are clear, bring joy to the God you adore and revere.

Refrain

4. Yield all that you are to worship the Lord— see life as a psalm, each moment a chord; let harmonies flourish and melodies soar— let all that has breath praise the Lord evermore.

“Walk with us to our Emmaus, for we need you still today.” Call to Confession:

We know that nothing is able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ. Let us in freedom confess the wrong we have done. —based on Romans 8:39

Prayer of Confession Words of Assurance:

“Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. —1 Corinthians 15:54-57, NRSV

We respond to God’s forgiveness by living our thanks according to God’s Word. Hear now God’s will for our lives: God spoke all these words:

“I am the LORD your God.

You shall have no other gods before me.

You shall not make for yourself an idol,

whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above,

or that is on the earth beneath,

or that is in the water under the earth.

You shall not bow down to them or worship them.

You shall not make wrongful use

of the name of the LORD your God.

Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.

Honor your father and your mother.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house;

you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,

or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

—from Exodus 20:1-17, NRSV

Song of Response: LUYH #624:1-3 “Not What My Hands Have Done” 1. Not what my hands have done

can save my guilty soul; not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole. Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God; not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load.

2. Your voice alone, O Lord, can speak to me of grace; your power alone, O Son of God, can all my sin erase. No other work but yours, no other blood will do; no strength but that which is divine can bear me safely through.

3. I praise the Christ of God; I rest on love divine; and with unfaltering lip and heart I call this Savior mine. My Lord has saved my life and freely pardon gives; I love because he first loved me, I live because he lives. Words: Horatius Bonar; Music George William Martin; Public Domain; CCLI #678905

During the singing of the last verse, children ages 3-first grade are dismissed to the Koinonia room for Children & Worship.

Offering: General Fund * Hymn of Preparation: LUYH #207:1-3 “Come to Us, Beloved Stranger”

1. Come to us, beloved Stranger, as you came that Easter day. Walk with us to our Emmaus, for we need you still today. Come to us when we are broken, when our dearest hopes are lost, speak to us the prophets’ message you fulfilled upon the cross. 2. Stay with us and give us blessing, that our hopes again may rise. Offer us your broken body; open our unseeing eyes. Come to us, God’s love embodied; touch our hearts with burning flame. Risen Christ, once dead, now living, come to us through joy, through pain.

3. We would never fail to see you as you walk with us each day. As a friend and not a stranger you would join us on our way. Help us trust that through your mercy we can doubt and fear transcend, and to others be a blessing. Keep us faithful till life’s end. 1. Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy, whose trust, ever childlike, no cares could destroy: be there at our waking, and give us, we pray, your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day. 2. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe: be there at our labors, and give us, we pray, your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.

3. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace, your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace: be there at our homing, and give us, we pray, your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day. “Speak to use the prophet’s message you fulfilled upon the cross.” * We Profess our Faith: Heidelberg Catechism Q & A 57 & 58

Q 57. How does "the resurrection of the body" comfort you?

A. Not only my soul will be taken immediately after this life to Christ its head, but even my very flesh, raised by the power of Christ, will be reunited with my soul and made like Christ's glorious body.

Page 7: Welcome to First Christian Reformed Church!firstcrcmv.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/April-3-2016-Bulletin.pdf · Welcome to First Christian Reformed Church! Pastor John Knoester

Q 58. How does the article concerning "life everlasting" comfort you?

A. Even as I already now experience in my heart the beginning of eternal joy, so after this life I will have perfect blessedness such as no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no human heart ever imagined: a blessedness in which to praise God eternally.

* God’s Parting Blessing

* Parting Song of Praise: “Benediction’ (May the Peace of God)” 1. May the peace of God our heav'nly Father, and the grace of Christ the risen Son, and the fellowship of God the Spirit keep our hearts and minds within His love.

Chorus And to Him be praise for His glorious reign, from the depths of earth to the heights of heav'n. We declare the name of the Lamb once slain: Christ eternal the King of kings.

2. May this peace which passes understanding, and this grace which makes us what we are, and this fellowship of His communion make us one in spirit and in heart.

Chorus 2x And to Him be praise for His glorious reign, from the depths of earth to the heights of heav'n. We declare the name of the Lamb once slain: Christ eternal the King of kings.

Final Ending: Christ eternal the King of kings. “Benediction” Keith Getty / Stuart Townend, © 2005 Thankyou Music (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing); All rights Reserved. CCLI #678905

* Postlude Welcome! The psalmist wrote: “I will exalt you, my God and King. I will praise your name forever and ever” (Psalm 145:1). With a similar attitude, let us praise God joyfully. After joining us in worship, join us in the fellowship hall next to the sanctuary for a cup of coffee or juice and continued fellowship.

Pastor Andy Carlson will lead our evening service today. He is a candidate for the ministry and is currently serving at Awake Church in Seattle. Pray that God will give him the words to speak.

Next Sunday morning, April 10, Pastor Jon Westra will lead us in worship and his wife, Karen will accompany on the piano for our Worship Team. May God bless us all as we worship together. Sunday School & Catechism classes will not meet on April 10. They will resume again on April 17.
