QUESTIONS FOR PARSHAS KI SEITZEI BY: THE RAV
First Aliyah: (21:11) Why does the Torah permit this seemingly barbaric act of forcibly taking a foreign woman as one’s wife on the battlefield? Second Aliyah: (22:3) Why does the Torah have to give so many examples of lost objects – can’t I infer one from the other? Third Aliyah: (22:12‐13) What is the connection between Tzitzis and the law of Motzi Shem Ra (slander)? Fourth Aliyah: (23:19‐20) What’s the connection between items forbidden for sacrifices and the laws of charging interest? Fifth Aliyah: (24:1) Is this the source text for marriage – if so, why is it also the selfsame source text for divorce? Sixth Aliyah: (24:8) Why is the Torah so exhortative about the laws of Tzara’as, even using the word “me’od” (very much)? Seventh Aliyah: (25:3‐4) What is the connection between administering lashes and not muzzling animals?
Weekly Halachah—Parshas Ki Seitzei R’ Mordechai Torczyner – [email protected]
What changes should I make in Selichos if I say them without a minyan?
We recite Selichos in the days leading up to Rosh haShanah and Yom Kippur, as well as on fast days. One may recite these prayers in private, although prayer in a group is always preferable.
One who prays alone should omit the Aramaic portions of Selichos. One should also skip the portions of Selichos which list the 13 attributes of Divine mercy, but many authorities rule that one may recite them with the notes of the trop, as though reading a verse from the Torah rather than a prayer.
On a separate note: One who recites Selichos after sunrise should alter the wording of those lines which claim that she is reciting Selichos "at night".
