Grasslands and Shrublands

• AKA the prairies• Found in places where there is enough rainfall to avoid

desertification, not enough to support tree growth• Destinctive features:

ability 2 survive fire, drought and mowing.

• Grass grows and spreads quickly by drawing on reserves deep in soil

Grasslands and Shrublands

Three main types:• Temperate grasslands

- Summers are hot, winters are cold. N.A, S.A, Asia

• Savannas- Tropical or subtropical lands are in regions where it’s hot all year long. Africa, Oceania, S.A

• Derived Grasslands- Artificial fields of grass and grain have replaced original natural grasslands. Increased number of farmers worked the land. N.A 90%+ of prairie land has been converted into farmland.
