13th September 2021
So much has been happening in the last few weeks with Arts Festival, Prep Open Day and training for Barnes Cup. Barnes Cup is going to be huge. All children will be participating tomorrow and the children are either really excited or a little apprehensive. The paperwork around ensuring all children have permission to attend the Barnes Cup and Surf Lifesaving has been complex. Parents please try to ensure that when forms are sent home they are completed and signed fully as failure to do this causes extra work for the school and a disruption for parents.
To ensure the safety of all of our students, all students will remain under our school tents unless they are competing or have received a toilet pass from the relevant teacher. They will return to that teacher with that pass. We are asking that children not sit with their parents as we want to ensure that we know where our students are at all times. We have teachers stationed in the tents, first aid and medication will be there as well. A teacher will be situated near the toilets also. Parents are able to bring food to the students but children will not be able to leave the tents to buy food except for specific times where this will be supervised and that will be decided on by teachers depending on activities.
Students are also really excited about the lifesaving days coming up next week. It is such a great opportunity for our students and through grants applied for and other school funding has meant that this amazing program will be at no cost to any student. We are trying to ensure that all of our students have access to a well-rounded curriculum. Please make sure you send these forms back so that your child does not miss out!
It is expected that all students from Prep to Year 6 will be at school every school day, for the whole day. They cannot afford to miss any school unless they are genuinely unwell or there is another acceptable reason. As a guide, activities such as shopping, haircuts, visiting family and friends, or tiredness are not acceptable reasons for student absences, even in Prep. You are welcome to talk to your child’s class teacher, or to Admin if you are unsure when it’s acceptable to keep your child at home or arrive late.
By law, all student absences are required to have an acceptable explanation from a parent/carer. This communication may be in the form of a letter/note, phone message, email [email protected] or conversation with the Class Teacher or Admin. If your child is sick enough to miss school for a few days, we strongly urge you to obtain a medical certificate. If you feel that your child is having problems with school or you would like some ideas on how to help get your child to school, we invite you to come and see us. The school is only too willing to work with parents to ensure that all students are learning at school every day, all day. We look forward to seeing all students at school more often.
Thank you to all our wonderful parents who are putting their hands up to help with our fete!

This term Year 2 students have been working hard writing facts about Australian
animals. Some of the animals that the students have been focussing on are the koala,
kangaroo and platypus. Currently, they are learning about the life cycle of Loggerhead
Turtles and writing information facts about these. Last Friday we had a visiting
Science Teacher, Mr Murphy from Belgian Gardens State School consolidating learning
of life cycles of a cockatiel and Loggerhead turtle.

Last week, the Year 3’s learned a new technique called “Glissando” and I’m sure the children will love
demonstrating it to you at home! The Year 4’s are working on their “Staccato” playing at the moment and doing a
great job with this new technique. It was great to have all the Year 5 string students back last week and trying out
some new longer songs which requires lots of stamina!
Have a great week!
Kind Regards,Lynda Wright
Instrumental Music – Woodwind / Brass / Percussion (Multi)
Congratulations to the multi instrumental music students who performed in the Ingham Arts Festival last week.
Our Year 6 instrumental students performed together in an ensemble section, and were awarded first place for
their performance! We also had Lara, Samantha and Lucas who were very brave and nominated to perform a solo
on their instrument at the Arts Festival, and were awarded first, second and third place in their section! A special
thank you must go to Mrs Wright, who kindly offered to accompany our instrumental students on piano for the
Arts Festival – we appreciate you giving up your time to come to school and have extra rehearsals with our music
students.
Please remember that there will be no before school band rehearsal or lessons this Thursday, due to the Barnes
Cup being held.
Mrs Gunston
Instrumental Music – Strings
Congratulations to our Year 6 string students, Jenna, Summer and Chaya who performed at the Ingham Arts Festival
last week. The girls performed brilliantly and won 1st prize in their Trio section. The girls were incredibly brave by
each playing a solo as well. They did a clean sweep of the prizes with Jenna in 1st place, Summer in 2nd place and
Chaya in 3rd place. The adjudicator commented on how she thoroughly enjoyed all the performances and strongly
urged the girls to keep playing together. Well done girls, I am very proud of you!

Choir
Congratulations to all students in the school choir, who performed in the Arts Festival last Wednesday. The
choir was awarded first place in the Folk Song section, and second place in the Unison section! Thank you to
Mrs Rita Phillips, who gave up her time to attend our choir rehearsals to accompany the choir in the lead up
to Arts Festival. The choir has been working extra hard over the past few weeks, coming to extra rehearsals to
make sure we were prepared for our performances at Arts Festival. The choir was given this week off
rehearsals, but we will be getting back into rehearsals next week, as we begin to prepare some new songs for
some upcoming performances towards the end of the year!

students at school.
