Purpose of today’s gathering:

Provide you, our K12 Partners, with detailed information on HS Programs for 17-18 Academic Year

Hold question / answer forum and ensure that all stakeholders understand the details of the HS Programs Expansion Plan

Representation from 15 of 37 School Districts and all 5 Alamo Colleges / District Offices

Provide TSIA preparation support

Utilize data as a tool for Academic Advising

Begin assessing students with the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) in the 8th

and 9th grades

Academic support to have basic skills requirements to have the option to take core courses

Use assessment information as part of Academic Advising model

2017-2018 High School Program Expansion Plan

Students in traditional Dual Credit will be able to take up to 14 Dual Credit courses, up from 10 courses previously

Will need to select a degree plan from the AlamoINSTITUTES, aligning with HS Endorsements to maximize courses toward certificates & degrees

Through training, High School Counselors will be better prepared to advise students using the same process as College Advisors at the Alamo Colleges

2017-2018 High School Program Expansion Plan

Students will be better able to apply the core courses to a degree plan from a wider range of universities

Financial Aid opportunities will be more strategically utilized with this number of courses

Students will be able to meet requirements for Core Complete Certificate (42 Core hours)

Sufficient time in HS to complete OSA (Occupational Skills Award), Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates (10-42 hours)

Students can still qualify for University incentive packages with classification of sophomore

Alamo Institutes & HS Endorsements

HS Endorsements STEM - related to science, including

environment science; technology, including computer science; engineering; and advanced mathematics

Business and Industry -accounting, architecture, automotive technology, communications, construction, finance, graphic design, information technology, marketing, welding

Public Services - education and training, health sciences and occupations, law enforcement and government services, human services, and JROTC

Arts and Humanities -cultural studies, English literature, fine arts, history, political science, and world languages

Multidisciplinary Studies -courses selected from the curriculum of each Endorsement area.

Alamo Institutes Science & Technology - agriculture,

food and natural resources, information technology, science technology, engineering and mathematics.

Health & Biosciences - health sciences

Business & Entrepreneurship -business management and administration, finance, hospitality and tourism and marketing.

Advanced Manufacturing & Logistics - architecture, construction, manufacturing, transportation, distribution and logistics

Public Service - education, training, government, public administration, human services, law, public safety, correction and security.

Creative & Communication Arts - related to arts, audio/video technology and communications

Combining Workforce & Transfer Programs

Determining student’s goal first:

Transfer: 42 Hour Core Courses

Workforce Certificates & AAS: Workforce courses specified in degree plan

Students participating in the Alamo Academies or other Workforce Program may now take courses in the Core Complete area

Must not exceed 14 course limit during HS years

Must be based on specific credential (AAS, AA / AS degrees)

Academic Advising: HS Counselor Training

Training will consist of 20 clock hours

Will be delivered in a hybrid model

Some courses will be delivered face to face

Some courses will be delivered online

Training will be delivered during the summer months and during the academic year (schedules will be worked out with school districts)

Certificates of Completion will be awarded

Academic Rigor: Faculty Training & Academic Oversight

Intent – provide comparable academic support / oversight for Dual Credit as is for other college courses

Need to provide faculty development for HS Dual Credit Instructors on instructional design, delivery and assessment

Academic oversight by College Faculty (i.e. classroom observations, review of instructional materials)

Review of key student metrics

Implementation of Cost-Sharing Model

Cost-Sharing model based on who pays instructor Payment to the ISD for courses taught by High School /

Adjunct Instructors• Courses with 15 or more students per class taught by ISD

Instructor: $600 stipend to ISD / School

Payment to Alamo Colleges if instructor paid by College• Less than 80% of students enrolled per class section taught by

AC Instructor: $100 per student

• 80% or more of students enrolled per class section taught by AC Instructor: $2,800 per class

Billing – based on Census day enrollments Stipends – based on Census day enrollments

Discussion on Dual Credit Operational Details

Stipends & Billing determined by Banner data

HS class section and college section must be aligned

Goal is to reduce manual work for both College and ISD partners

Work together to manage schedule changes – goal is to complete schedules prior to beginning of term

Establish consistent expectations for enrollments & admissions
