• W

ho have helped us spiritually. H
owever, can you also nam

Dig: Scripture &
Discussion
Th e morning lesson used the four com
ponents of our mission statem
ent to overview
the stewardship of G
od’s money. W
hile there is overlap, consider how
your contributions are used to carry out the mission of G
od.
DISC
IPLING
- Read Matthew
28:18-20. What is the signifi cance of M
atthew
closing his gospel with these w
ords of Jesus? Do w
e give enough attention to this com
mand?
EQU
IPPING
- Read Ephesians 4:11-16. Th e mission of the church goes
beyond making disciples, it is also about equipping those disciples. Paul
uses the word equip in this passage. Paul acknow
ledges that the power
source for equipping is God, but it is done through the church. (See also
Hebrew
s 13:20-21.) Discuss how
this happens.
SERVIN
G- Tom
mentioned the num
ber of times the phrase “good w
orks” appears in the Bible - did you catch the num
ber? Read the following
passages and summ
arize each in the blanks below.

LOV
ING
- In 1 Corinthians 13:3, Paul writes, “If I give all I possess to the
poor and surrender my body to the am
es, but have not love, I gain nothing.” Even godless people can be generous. A
nyone can be sacrifi cial for a good cause. H
owever, being a com
pletely comm
itted follower of Jesus has the
overriding component of love. W
hy is love “the greatest” as Paul says?
Re ect: M
ake It Real
When do you feel m
ost connected/involved in the mission of our church?
Have you ever fi nancially helped som
eone go on a mission trip? H
ow did
that make you feel?
Have you ever had som
eone (or a church collectively) support you fi nan-cially to go on a m
ission trip? How
did that make you feel?
What happens w
hen a church emphasizes m
aking disciples, but not equip-ping? W
hat is the danger of a church focusing on equipping, but not evan-gelizing? D
iscuss.
When you give of your m
oney to the church, do you think of that as part of your w
orship to God? O
r is that done to support your local church? Why
does it matter how
you think about your giving?
Jesus taught that, “Where your treasure is, there your heart w
ill be also.” (M
atthew 6:21) If your fam
ily and/or close friends were to identify “w
here your treasure is” that is, w
hat is most im
portant to you fi nancially, what
would they list in order of priority?

and those who are rich in this
present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living G

do good, that they be rich in good w
