THE RUNDOWN: LISA LOCKHARTHORSE: An Oakie With Cash “Louie”Buckskin Gelding, 9 Years Old, 15 hands, big & heavy, I fi gure the way to their heart is to feed them good so my horses are usually on the heavy side! HORSE HISTORY: Tim Bagnell (B Bar Heart Performance Horses) bred and raised Louie. He was a money earner in working cow-horse and the 2006 Montana Snaffl e Bit Futurity winner as a 3 and 4 year old. He came to our house as a long 4 year old and he went to only one futurity at the end of his 5 year old year. After that I just started seasoning him on the road as a 6 year old. He went to his fi rst rodeo in August of his 6 year old. He had to get seasoned rapidly his 7 year old year because I lost Bugs (FCS Bugsoutofsight). I ended up using him in all the building rodeos. He had one circuit rodeo, then the circuit fi nals, then the 2010 CFR then the 2010 NFR. He did really well at the 2010 CFR and got stronger every round. I never planned on riding him all 10 rounds at the 2010 NFR but with Chisum hurt I had to and it was sure a blessing. The indoor rodeos aren’t Chisum’s forte but I wouldn’t have ever been

able to get myself to ride Louie all ten rounds unless Chisum was hurt. Louie handled it great and won over $100k at the NFR that year. This past year he won the 2011 CFR Average and won almost $80k at the 2011 NFR. His lifetime earnings are now over $400,000. Just like many families we are all busy and have our own things going on so honestly, it all comes down to scheduling. For example, after the fi rst set at Houston I drove straight through home to get to a track meet. I hate driving straight through like that because of the horses but it was what we had to do and the horses got to be turned out so they were OK with it. It was 1300 miles to get home for those 12 days between the fi rst set of Rodeo Houston and the SemiFinals. But, I made it home for Regional Wrestling! I was actually able to see two wrestling tournaments and see my family. I had been gone from home just a little less than 4 weeks and that is a long time for me.Now, I will go home now and stay there basically until the fi rst of June because the kids have Little Britches, Junior High Rodeos and track meets and we are calving. I haven’t really went in the spring for

Lottie Jo Owens “Sug” Bloxom Lottie Jo “Sug” Owens Bloxom, went to the Lord, on February 19th, 2012, in Midland, Texas. She was born in San Angelo on July 17th, 1926, to Tom & Ella Owens. Sug grew up on various ranches in Crockett, Irion, Reagan, and Upton Counties. She made a “top hand”, working beside her mother, father, and sister, raising sheep and Angus cattle. As a baby, her father would take her on horseback, by carrying her in the front of his saddle. By the time she could walk, she was taking horses out by herself. In the late 1930’s and early ‘40’s, Sug would ride in rodeos as a sponsor girl, because there were no competi-tive women’s events. In 1943, as a college freshman at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, she and her sister, along with others, began the Girls Rodeo Association, to get timed events for women. Roy Rog-ers, a leading cowboy movie star, recruited her in 1945 to be one of fi ve selected “Ranch Girls”. The “Girls” toured with Rogers for a month and performed with him in numerous venues, including Madison Square Garden in New York City. After graduating from TCU in 1949, with a teaching degree, she moved back to the ranch with her parents and taught school in Big Lake. In 1950, she married her husband of 54 years, Shankle Bloxom, whom she met at TCU. They moved, with their two children, to the ranch in Upton County in 1956, after the death of her sister. Sug and Shank made Rankin their home and were very active in their community and church. As a mother and grandmother, she was beyond compare. Her patience and kindness were limitless. She had the unique ability to be a childlike playmate with kids of all ages. Her love of the country and all animals, both wild and domestic, is legendary. She is survived by her daughter, Deb Bloxom of Andrews; her son, Tom Bloxom and wife, Lou of Rankin; fi ve grandchildren: Sha’ Bloxom Thomas and husband, Craig of Corpus Christi, Amy Lide Hegeman and her husband, Jon of Anniston, Alabama, Lorissa and Aaron Lide of College Station, Texas, and Katelyn Lide of Odessa; three great-grandchildren: Adalie and Dreese Thomas, and Ella Kate Hegeman. Sug was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ella

Stanley Bush (1930 - 2012) Stanley Bush of Mason passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at a Brady hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bush was 81 years old. Stanley was born in Denton County to Fred and Willie Williams Bush on Feb. 28, 1930. He started out his horse career as a thor-oughbred race horse jockey, riding at major race tracks all around the country. Then, several years later, his brother-in-law, Matlock Rose, in-troduced him to the cutting horse world. He excelled as one of the top cutting horse riders in the world with a career spanning fi ve decades. He rode many horses to the top of the world standings during this time as well as being inducted into several Hall of Fames honoring his cutting horse riding. He had a deep love for his numerous friends in the horse world, as well as the country music world. He was so apprecia-tive to the kind nurses at the Brady hospital that cared for him and to Dr. Jeff Mays who was there for him every day. Special thanks to Misty Criswell of Country Home Health for being here always. He was a true loving friend to all whose lives he touched and a dearest family mem-ber. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Bush, and a sister, Freddie Rose. Survivors: His wife of almost 55 years, Wanda Harper Bush of Mason. Stanley, Wanda and daughter Shanna have trained and sold many champion futurity and rodeo horses. Wanda is a member of the Na-tional Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage in Oklahoma City. She has been name the Women of the Year by the WPRA. She has won 32 World Championships with the GRA-WPRA, including barrel racing, calf roping, cutting horse and all around. Other suvivors include daughter, Shanna Bush; brother, Billy Charles Bush and wife, Carol; brother-in-law, A.C. In the past when I would have a less than great winter it was hard to stay home but tha’s the sacrifi ce I make to put family fi rst. To me home is a great place to be. I go hard in the winter and go hard in the summer and if it works...great! That is how we decided to do it and that’s what works for us. I love rodeo but love my family so that is what we do. WHAT ABOUT LOUIE MAKES HIM SO ADAPTABLE TO SO MANY DIFFER-ENT PENS AND SITUATIONS? I think that he runs such an honest pattern every time and he is one of those horses that the situations don’t make any difference to him. Most horses you have to adjust your game plan to each different setup. There really are no major difference to my game plan for the different setups. It might be his ability or style but it is hard to put my fi nger on what makes him adapt so well. I think it is just simply that he goes out and does the same thing every time. In a big pen, small pen, or whatever the set up, he will go out and turn, he just loves his job. WHAT IS YOUR GAME PLAN FOR THE REST OF 2012? I will be going home now until June 1. I plan to get Chisum (Fast An Gold) back into shape for the summer run. He had a lot of time off so now he will be ready to be back in action for the summer. Over the summer, I will ride Chisum or Louie depending on which rodeos I think each horse will work its best from my previous experiences there. By Tanya Randall Kim Ferguson of La Grange, Mo., doesn’t get to barrel race a lot, usually two ‘big’ jackpots a month, but when she does go, she makes it count. Aboard her home-raised and trained 8-year-old mare Three Smashed Bugs (“Freckles”), Ferguson won two of the three races at the $5,500-added Double B Barrel Bash, held March 23-25 at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Columbia, Mo. Ferguson and Freckles put more than 2/10ths on the fi eld to win Friday’s $1,000-added race. “She surprised me on my fi rst run,” said Ferguson. “It usually takes her a couple of runs in a pen to get going. I just let her do what she wants on that fi rst run and usually we’re a half-second off.” In Saturday’s $2,000-added race, Ferguson lost her reins during the run when her mare stumbled. “I don’t even remember where it happened in the pattern, but I remember thinking ‘oh no,’” she recalled. “She’s so patterned, I don’t think she even noticed!” Ferguson didn’t run on Sunday, but left Columbia with $1,639 of the event’s $37,342 total purse.

Freckles was started under saddle by Ferguson’s father Garry and her mother Teresa taught the mare the pattern. However, Ferguson ended up doing more of the mare’s training after her mother broke her leg in a horse accident. As a 5-year-old, Freckles won the Amateur Championship at the 2009 JB Quarter Horses Futurity. Last year, they fi nished fourth at the AQHA World Show in amateur barrel racing. “She’s qualifi ed to go back,” Ferguson said. “My goal is to win a globe and they only give those to the Top 3.” Ferguson also plans to attend as many Barrel Bashes as she can. Last year, she won a saddle for winning the Barrel Bash Derby Sidepot Championship. “I ended the year on a pretty good note,” she said. “I put her up for the winter and gave her three months off, and we picked up with a good return (at our fi rst Barrel Bash of the year).” Unfortunately, Columbia was Garry’s last barrel race. “His body won’t let him go fast anymore,” said Ferguson. “He’s had three rotator cuff surgeries and his hip is bothering him. Her mom, on the other hand, has sort of reversed rolls. “My mom does all my paperwork and she’s the driver,” said Fergu-son. “She keeps all my good ones in shape. In fact, the only time I ride that mare (Freckles) is at competitions. That tells you how much work my mom does. “My parents are big part of this, and I couldn’t do this without them.” Although she has a small landscaping and outdoor lighting business, Ferguson devotes most of her time to her family’s horses. Her parents have been raising barrel horses for more than 40 years. “My parents have 96 horses,” she said. “I have a lot of colts to ride and a lot to choose from.” Freckles was one of the many Ferguson had to chose from. She is by the family’s senior stallion Three Bugs Alive, a proven barrel horse by Three Bugs, a son of Three Bars (TB) out of Lady Bugs Leo, the second dam of Bugs Alive In 75. The little boy wiggling around on the bleacher seat looked to be about three years old. He had been scolded repeatedly by his parents for getting so wild and goofy but it never lasted

long. The little guy used the next opportunity to misbehave while his parents were engrossed in the action going on in the arena. This was followed by a shrill yelp and a loud wailing. He had fallen on the walkway and though he wasn’t hurt much, he had some scrapes and bruises and his high spirits had been defl ated. He threw himself into his mother’s open arms while she soothed him. How often in this life do people treat God this way! They are warned of the dangers of sin and disobedience and they know what the consequences are but still they try to have things their way. Oh, they think they can get by with it or God won’t notice. Then when the outcome isn’t good, they wonder why God let it happen. They ignore God for long periods of time while trying to get the ultimate thrills out of life but they are ready to run back to God when things go wrong. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or how bad you were. If

you’re truly sorry for your misdeeds and repent, God will forgive you and even forget it like it never happened. He is the God of love which is so great that it is hard for us to even try to understand it. Read 1 John 1:9 which says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrigh-teousness.” Hebrews 8:12 tells us that God will forgive our wrong doings and remember our sins no more. There are many other Scriptures, too, that promise that same mercy and love. How good is that! So if you miss the mark and mess up, don’t run away from God, RUN TO GOD like that little boy ran to his mother’s open arms. Then you’ll have the peace of GOD that passes all understanding!
