need and show you what the University of Chester has to off er all its students.

Your tour will take in all of the campus buildings and departments mentioned in this booklet, including the various types of accommodation. Your tour is about fi nding out exactly what the University of Chester, Warrington Campus can off er you both as a student and a person. Your tour gives you the chance to ask any questions you have about the campus, university and surrounding areas.

We have plenty of parking available on campus if you are intending to drive. Please follow the signs when you arrive and park in any of the designated car parks.

A map and directions to the Warrington Campus can be found on pages 17-

19 of this pack.

Please enter the University at the main entrance on Crab Lane and make

your way to the Main Reception building (R) on the map and ask them to

make us aware of your arrival.

NORTH WEST MEDIA CENTRE

The Broomhead Library is the main

learning resource on the Warrington

Campus. We had our students’ needs

and learning styles fi rmly in mind

when we spent £4m, expanding

and upgrading the library to ensure

everyone could use it in the most

eff ective way for them. The building

has been tripled in size and separated

into three main learning zones;

Social Learning, Quiet and Very Quiet

Learning.

Each has its own workspaces and

facilities. Each zone has its own unique

attributes but has been designed to

meet all the needs of our students.

Refurbished in 2010, Bar 2010 is the heart of

the student social scene on campus. Split

into two main sections, the Bar and the Club,

each off ers students a diff erent experience

dependant on the occasion. For example the

bar is great place to relax with a drink with a

group of mates, whilst the club is where all the

big events on campus take place.

the Warrington Campus is based around the Piazza.

have been specially adapted for students

with specifi c needs or disabilities. Students

who have a disability or specifi c need must

contact the Disability Co-ordinator in Student

Support and Guidance, who can advise and

• Meals are not provided, however self-catered students

can participate in the meal schemes

• Self-catered accommodation is located on campus

• Students usually live with seven other people and share

extensive list of private sector properties available for students to rent, with the majority of accommodation

being very close to the campus.

only higher education support department

The CSU also provides the following:

• CSU is responsible for organising Freshers’ Week

and other entertainment such as quiz nights,

karaoke and comedy nights

• The campus shop stocks basic groceries and

toiletries, as well as drinks, snacks, stationary and

University of Chester hoodies and t-shirts.

• Every penny spent in CSU goes back into

improving Student Union services and facilities.

• CSU has over 90 clubs and societies, the sporting

clubs and societies play in the British Universities

and College Sports league (BUCS)

• Students can continue to use the careers

service for up to 3 years after they graduate.

• Students can gain advice in person, by

phone or by email.

• Advice can be given on a one-to-one basis

through personal appointments.

Chester Students’ Union @ Warrington

The Chester Students’ Union (CSU) is a department

separate from the University, they are just there to

ensure you are supported, happy and are getting the

most out of your university career. As a member of

the National Union of Students, it is able to represent

the student voice on a range of issues. The Warrington

VP is elected every year from the Warrington student

body, ensuring that you will always have someone to

talk to who has been in your shoes.

The Students’ Union offi ce and shop is located

on the bottom fl oor of the Padgate Hall (G) on

the map.

GYM AND OUTDOOR SPORT

The on campus gym is a low cost, fun

way of staying in shape whilst you are at

University. At around £70 for the academic

year students get full access to the

external and internal facilities and as many

classes as they wish to attend as part of

their membership. The gym also employs

a number of students every year to act

as fi tness instructors and gym workers

through the UniJob scheme.

Follow the road back towards the accommodation

buildings and you will fi nd the gym on the ground

fl oor of Croft Hall of Residence (5) on the map.

5TUCKER BUSINESS CENTRE

The Tucker Business

Centre is home to the

Warrington School of

Management. Any student

taking business courses

will be predominately

based out of this £4m

Business Centre.

Outdoor Sport & Recreation

The Warrington Campus is the main training ground

for the Warrington Wolves, meaning our outdoor

pitches need to up to professional standard. There

are 3 external pitches, 1 artifi cial and 2 grass, all of

which students get full access to. The campus also

has a two lane 350m running track.

Academic facilities in

the building include:

• Multiple media labs and class rooms, all with

24 hour access, allows students to get the feel for

working in a non-stop industry

• Nursing skills labs with a number of high tech

learning aids, lets nurses learn their skills in a

familiar and safe location

• Dedicated base areas for a number of subjects,

including Social Work and Early Childhood Studies.

• All food prepared fresh daily on campus, with

choices including fresh cooked main meals,

The Martin Building is the main academic

building for the majority of the courses that are

run at the Warrington Campus. It is also home to

the Careers, Finance and Student Support and

Guidance departments.

The restaurant is located inside the Martin

Building, facing the piazza.

Warrington Pyramid and Parr Hall

Warrington is a culturally signifi cant town located in

the heart of the North West. Known as a town of fi rsts,

Warrington was along the route of the fi rst commercial train

line and still has the one of the oldest municipal Museums

and the oldest rate supported public Library in the country.

Warrington has continually evolved its image from a cultural

signifi cant industrial town in to a bustling commercial and

business hub. Over £100m has been spent in recent years

to transform the town centre into a thriving shopping and

entertainment destination.
