PASTOR’S LETTER PASTOR’S LETTER

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension,

Although we are officially back in Ordinary Time, this weekend in the church, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. On most feast days, we celebrate events that took place in the life of Christ, events that took place in the life of Mary, and we celebrate as well the lives of the many different saints. This feast however is different -- we in fact celebrate and reflect on a particular dogma. What we celebrate in the mystery of the Trinity is a community of three persons, each of the persons is distinct, one from the other, yet identical in essence -- the three are so intimately bound together in love, the three literally become one without losing their identity. Every mystery that is revealed in Sacred Scripture is revealed for a reason. This feast is meant to continue teaching us about living as members of communities.

This past Monday, we celebrated a rather new feast day that was added as recently as 2018 to the liturgical calendar by Pope Francis. On Monday, we celebrated the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. Honoring Mary as mother of the church on the day after Pentecost highlights for us that Mary was present with the disciples on Pentecost, praying with them as the Holy Spirit descended. Mary, from the awaiting of the Spirit at Pentecost, has never ceased to take motherly care of the pilgrim church on earth. We need Mary’s intercession now more than ever.

Next Sunday is the Feast of Corpus Christi--The Body and Blood of Christ. Last year, as you recall, all of the churches were closed for the entire Easter Season and for all of the special feasts days that follow, including Corpus Christi. Last year, there were no outdoor processions permitted. Next Sunday, after the 12:30 Mass there will be a short Eucharistic Procession through the streets. We will continue to be prudent. All in the procession will be asked to wear masks. There will be two benedictions with the Blessed Sacrament outside with the final of the three benedictions in the church. It will be a special All are invited to attend.

Hoy es el Cuarto Domingo de Pascua y este Cuarto Domingo se conoce comúnmente como Domingo del Buen Pastor. El evangelio de este cuarto

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de Ascencion,

Aunque oficialmente estamos de regreso en el Tiempo Ordinario, este fin de semana en la iglesia celebramos la Fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad. En la mayoría de los días festivos, celebramos eventos que tuvieron lugar en la vida de Cristo, eventos que tuvieron lugar en la vida de María, y también celebramos las vidas de los diferentes Santos. Sin embargo, esta fiesta es diferente; de hecho, celebramos y reflexionamos sobre un dogma particular. Lo que celebramos en el misterio de la Trinidad es una comunidad de tres personas, cada una de las personas es distinta, una de la otra, pero idéntica en esencia: las tres están tan íntimamente unidas en el amor, las tres literalmente se vuelven una sin perder su identidad. Todo misterio que se revela en la Sagrada Escritura se revela por una razón. Esta fiesta está destinada a seguir enseñándonos sobre cómo vivir como miembros de comunidades.

STEAM into SCA es un programa de verano de tres semanas en persona que combina cursos académicos en matemáticas e inglés mientras explora las artes y las ciencias, como robótica, arte y danza.
