higher prevalence of obesity (47%) than
non-Hispanic whites (38%) and non-
Hispanic Asians (13%)
– Women have a higher prevalence of
obesity than men among non-Hispanic
black, non-Hispanic Asian, and Hispanic
adults
– Compared to adults living in metropolitan
counties, adults in more rural areas are
more likely to -
• Be current smokers
• Not have a normal body weight
• Not meet the aerobic physical activity
recommendations

A Healthy Start for Infants
Breastfeeding Highlights
– Supported EMPower, working with 93 hospitals
in 24 states to improve maternity care practices
– Worked with the American Academy of Pediatrics
(AAP) to improve physician education and training
in breastfeeding support
– Analyzed mPINC 2015 data and produced individual
reports for 2,582 participating hospitals
– Provided technical assistance to 1305 and ASTHO grantees through
networking calls and learning sessions
– Analyzed NIS data to describe national and state trends in breastfeeding
rates

Early Child Nutrition Highlights
– Continued to foster partnerships with federal
agencies and non-federal organizations
– Developed a CDC Early Child Nutrition website
– Supported development of education and training
materials for pediatricians and families
– Monitored and reported on data related to key
