NCAPP Mission

The mission of the Partnership between The College Board and thestate of North Carolina is to prepare, inspire, and connect studentsto postsecondary success and opportunity, with a particular focuson minority students and students who are underrepresented inpostsecondary education.“It is the intent of the State of North Carolina to enhance accessibility and encourage students to enroll in andsuccessfully complete more rigorous advanced courses to enable success in postsecondary education for allstudents. The North Carolina State Board of Education shall seek a partner to form the North Carolina AdvancedPlacement Partnership, hereinafter referred to as Partnership, to assist in improving college readiness ofsecondary students and to assist secondary schools to ensure that students have access to high- quality,rigorous academics with a focus on access to Advanced Placement courses (G.S. 115C-174.26).”

Focus on Underserved Students

Year 1:• 26.8% increase in number of Black AP student participation, with 14.5%

increase in scores of 3-5

• 32% increase in Hispanic AP student participation, with 18.6% increase in scores of 3-5

Year 2: • 22.8% increase in number of Black AP student participation with 12.7%

increase in scores of 3-5

• 21.3% increase in number of Hispanic AP student participation with 14.8% increase in scores of 3-5

Year 4: • 5.9% increase in number of Black AP student participation with 9.4%

increase in scores of 3-5

• 13.5% increase in number of Hispanic AP student participation with 11.7% increase in scores of 3-5

Year 5: • Black AP student performance increased 4.2% in scores of 3-5 over last

year

• 6.3% increase in number of Hispanic AP student participation with 9.1% increase in scores of 3-5

AP Computer Science Principles

• 1,744 AP CSP exams in 2018

• 74% earned a 3 or higher

• There are currently more than 135 AP CSP courses approved in NC; an increase of 15 from 2016-17

• 44 schools in 25 districts offered 68 AP CSP exams via NC Virtual Public School

• Initiative to expand- scholarships available for training with code.org and Friday Institute

AP World History-Course Revision 2019-20

•The AP World History: Modern course will begin in 1200 CE, starting in the 2019-20 school year. This change will ensure teachers and students can begin the course with a study of the civilizations in Africa, the Americas, and Asia that are foundational to the modern era.

•By mid-January 2019 we’ll provide an optional scope-and-sequence document that spreads the content of the AP World History: Modern course (1200 CE to present) across 140 instructional periods, with time included for students to focus on developing the AP history disciplinary practices and reasoning skills.

•In addition, for schools and students interested in AP coursework that covers 10,000 years of world history, we are committed to offering a second AP world history course—AP World History: Ancient.

•Teachers won’t be required to submit their 2019-20 syllabus for review and approval. Instead, they’ll simply confirm their awareness of these changes on their 2019-20 AP Course Audit form.

May 2020 exam orders.

Final Deadline (November) This is the deadline to order exams for all full-year and first-semester AP courses.

Exams ordered after this deadline and by the spring course orders and fall changes deadline will incur a late order fee of $40 per exam in addition to the exam fee.

Spring Course Orders and Fall Order Changes Deadline (March)

This is the deadline to order exams for second-semester courses, and to update the exam order with any late orders or canceled exams.

The full exam fee will be billed for all AP exams that are part of a school’s exam order as of this deadline, less any applicable College Board fee reduction.

Fall 2018:• Meet with your AP teachers and counselors to discuss the 2019-20 changes to AP.

Before the 2019-20 class registration period:• Communicate new AP Exam ordering deadlines, policies, and fees to students and

parents for 2019-20.

Spring 2019:• Connect your AP teachers with overview videos on new AP resources and annual

processes.

Before summer break:• Meet with your AP teachers and the AP coordinator to remind them of the

changes.
