newsletter for the summer term. As always you will find a range of news and updates

about wonderful things that have been happening at Welbourne, as well as

important reminders and dates for your diary…

Over the the Easter break work was carried out on the children’s toilets in Key Stage 1 and Reception. The children are delighted

with the refurbishment!

Upcoming Events

Diana Memorial PlaygroundReception went on a trip to the Diana

Memorial Garden as part of their topic ‘Treasure’. Before we went on the trip, we

discussed who Princess Diana was and why the garden was special.

The playground has a giant pirate ship set in a large sandpit and a large climbing frame

area with slides.

The playground encourages children to explore and follow their imaginations, learning

whilst they play.

We had a fantastic time!

The playground is in Hyde Park, it is free and Reception would definitely recommend it!

Gaming Safely

ESRB.org is a great website for parents to check the suitability and age ratings of online

games and apps for their child. All you need to do is type in the name of the game and click

search.Remember to check the ratings on games and

apps that your children are using.www.ESRB.org

September 2018.

Welbourne School Offers 15hours free childcare places and 30hours free

childcare for working parents that are eligible.

Book Recommendation...Written by Andrea Beaty

Like her classmates, builder Iggy and inventor Rosie, scientist Ada, a character of colour,has a boundless imagination and has always been hopelessly curious. Why are there pointy things stuck to a rose? Why are there hairs growing inside your nose? When her housefills with a horrific, toe-curling smell, Ada knows it’s up to her to find the source.

Summer Fair 2018Our annual Summer Fair will be taking place this year on Friday 6th July 3.30pm to 5.00pm. All families are welcome to this fun filled event. The summer fair is organised by the PSA (parents/carers) and the success of the day relies on the community coming together to help.

To start planning for the day, we will be holding a Summer Fair Meeting on Tuesday 5th June 2016 at 2pm in the small hall. We will be looking to recruit volunteers for the event and to offer parents the opportunity to hire a stall.

Please come along and join us if you would like to support this exciting event.

London Fire BrigadeChildren in Reception were very

lucky to be visited by the London Fire Brigade!

We learnt all about what

firefighters do and how important their job is in the community.

We then went to see a real fire engine truck and used the hose to

spray water.

We had lots of fun!

Photograph Consent

You may be aware that there are new data protection rules coming in from May. To ensure we are meeting the new requirements, we need to re-seek your consent to take and use photos of your child. We really value using photos of pupils, to be able to showcase what pupils do in school and show what life at our school is like to others, so we would appreciate you taking the time to give consent again.

Y6 SATS

Map Skills

Last week when we did the orientating we were set on a journey to find flags with letters on it. We were shown a map of Scotland and were asked to find what it meant. Before we went, we had to learn how to use a compass. Also we had a map of the school and the compasses helped us use the map. The map was very complicated but as you looked closely you would start to understand where you were. It was really difficult at the start but once you got the hang of it time flew by. We learnt that before you even start orientating you need to know how to use a compass.

During the week beginning 14th May our Y6 pupils will be taking their SATs tests as required

Gardening ClubOur crop of leeks was delivered to the school kitchen. They were included in the very tasty macaroni cheese we had for school lunch.

Head Lice Please note that if you find that your child has head lice, it must be treated to ensure it does not spread. We urge you to routinely check you child's hair and

Last week, Year 3 and Year 5 were lucky to participate in exciting map skills and orienteering workshops led by Adrian Hall. As part of the workshop, children were shown how to read an OS map and use a compass accurately. The children then put these skills into practice to complete an orienteering activity where they had to locate flags hidden across the school playground. Although some children found it challenging to start with, the activity ensured they all made great progress and had great fun working together. ‘It was really difficult at the start but once you got the hang of it, time flew by.’ (Sahra, Rahi and Abrahim, Orinoco Class).

Latest Anti-Bullying news

Since the last newsletter, the Welbourne Bullying Intervention

group has been celebrating the hard work done by all when creating the

anti-bullying policy videos.

Year 3 have held their premiere and there will be future screenings for

Year 4 and Year 6.

Look out for our new peer mediator opportunities this term as well as the

opportunities for some year 5 children to join the Bullying

Intervention Group. Children will also plan and take part in peer mentoring

sessions.

Family SupportThere will be family support and

advice sessions every fortnight at Welbourne Children’s Centre.

These sessions will run on Wednesdays from 1.30 pm to 3.50 pm. Please ensure you first book your session with Family Support

Marathon RunnersMs Waters, Mr Lane and Mr O'Reilly

would like to thank you for your support in running the Brighton

Marathon on April 15th.

Over £2500 was raised for the School Council’s chosen charity, The British

Red Cross.

Digital Leaders - ADA College

We continue to work closely with ADA college. Here is an update from two of our Digital

Leaders:

On Monday 30th of April ADA College came to our school .We have learnt how to use Python and Sam

Labs. The students from ADA also taught us phishing. Phishing is a type of scam. If you want to be safe on the internet you need to check the web

address. For example, if you want to go onto YouTube and the web address says wiki.fiou.uk then you know it is fake because it doesn’t say YouTube.

On Monday 30th of April ADA college came to our school to show us how to use python and Sam labs. They taught us what a fake website looks like and

what phishing is. Phishing is a type of person sending emails to give out your personal

information such like credit card and credit details. All of us got split into groups.
