Weishaupt has opened a new chapterin digital burner management. The new rating capacity of thelegendary W series burners (WL30 /WL40: from 205 to 1,950 MBTU/h)uses the latest microprocessortechnology for setting, control andmonitoring of all burner functions. Theresult is a new series of burners, whichoffers not only improved comfort andprecision, but also value for money.Furthermore, the new burners are easyto commission, service and are quieterin their operation than other burnerswith a comparable rating.

Compact design Looking beneath the cover of the typesWL30 and WL40 reveals Weishaupt’susual logical layout of components.

The horizontally fitted fan design hasalready proven itself. The most importantnew components are the newcombustion manager, which replaces theburner control previously used and thenew stepping motor, which regulates theair damper setting in steps of only a tenthof a degree, making it more accuratethan ever before.

A new chapter in the history ofsuccessThis new construction principle of theWL30 and WL40 will be used for allsmaller types of compact burners in theWeishaupt W range. The result of thisdevelopment will be a range of burnersfrom 55 to 1,950 MBTU/h with identicaltechnology and maximum use of commoncomponents.

The Computer as a friendAt the heart of the new burnertechnology lies the Weishauptcombustion manager. It’s efficientmicroprocessor controls and monitors allburner functions. The burner display withits simple operating panel displays allfunction sequences for burnercommissioning. All calculated values canbe displayed and, once the cover isremoved, all set values for burneroperation can be programmed with fourkeys.

Unmistakable plug connectionCoded plug connections ensure thecorrect electrical connection of allcomponents.

New stepping motor The air damper stepping motor providesseparate air damper settings for burnerstart and burner operation.

Report and diagnostic display During burner operation the operatingmode (stage 1 or 2) and operations ofthe stepping motor are indicated on thedisplay.

If a burner lockout occurs the display notonly shows the error message, but alsoan error code. This allows immediaterecognition and rectification of the causeof lockout.

Keywords – Building Management SystemThe Weishaupt combustion manager isfitted with a serial bus connection. Toenable communication with othersystems an interface has been provided.A self-dialling modem can be interfaced,which can report the burner lockout andits cause to a designated telephone orfax connection (e.g. the heatingspecialist).Connections to other components (e.g.controller) or to the DDC installation canbe made via the same interface.

One concept – two convincing solutionsA new construction concept was realizedwith this new W30 and W40 series ofWeishaupt burners. Both gas and oilburners are of identical basic design andare fitted with the latest microprocessortechnology. The result is easierinstallation, disposition, operation,setting and service, and spare partssupply.

Saves money, saves time, savesenergySynergy effect during construction andfinishing, the use of economicalelectronic control and regulatortechnology and proven Weishauptcombustion technology ensure asolution, which is convincing not onlyfrom a technical point of view, but alsofrom an economical point of view.

The new WL30 has a ratings range up to1,130 MBTU/h, the WL40 up to 1,950MBTU/h. In the past a Weishaupt burnerof this ratings class would have costconsiderably more. Due to its compactconstruction, the burner’s electricalconsumption has also been reduced.

Only one service engineer is needed forinstallation. Commissioning simplymeans inputting the required values viathe keys on the burner display. Nocomputer or programming knowledge isrequired to carry out this work.

Compact form, classic design. The burner display is a ‘give-away’ of the new technology.

Optimum accessibilityOptimum accessibility becomesapparent the moment the cover isremoved. All components are laid outclearly, electrical connection isunmistakable. This state of the arttechnology is typical of Weishauptproducts.

These components are also easilyaccessible for servicing. The wholeburner can be hinged open, including the

valve assembly and diffuser from theflame tube. Furthermore, the nozzleassembly and diffuser can be removedtotally by opening the bayonet fitting.

The housing cover with motor block andcombustion manager can be removedand placed into a service position forservicing the fan. Every service engineerbenefits from this “accommodating”construction.
